Chapter 2
An hourglass silhouette appeared in the dark where light only shone on the table, making an envelope more visible than the rest of the features in the dimly lit room. The figure picked up the letter to find out that it was an invitation card to the gathering at midnight. The luscious red lips broke into a smile as the letter was read.
"I wonder how long it has been since then."

The office of the Guardian of the Day was bustling as usual. Everyone was ensuring all the tasks were completed efficiently. Lucas committing all his attention to complete his tasks as he knew that if he were to make a mistake, he would have to spend the entire night writing report. That means he will not be able to attend the gathering so he would not get to meet Leila Song. And that was the least thing he wishes to happen.

Luck sure was not on his side. He made a huge mistake by increasing the brightness level more than necessary which released high UV rays that are bad for human skin. He really wanted to kill himself as he regretted his actions immediately when he received the warning from the Head of the Sky.
The members giggled as they watched Lucas sinking into the chair and being sulky. He kept on thinking that he was going to miss the chance after all these centuries.
"Lucas, I think you should go and visit the Head of the Sky"
One of his members, Jacob Jung, patted his shoulder to comfort him. Actually, Jacob is not a permanent member under any Guardians. Instead he is a freelancer responsible for providing rain in human world and worked directly under Head of the Sky just like Ryan. If he's in duty, he had to take over the Guardian of the Day.
He was also the only person who had had a glimpse of Leila when he was on duty with the Head of the Sky. And also, he's Lucas's friend as well.
"Jacob, are you having duty? Are you going to take over? Does that mean I can go to the gathering?" Lucas bombarded him with questions, forcing him put his two hands up to signal him to calm down. "Chill," he cut him off.
"Well, I don't have any duty and the Head of the Sky asked me to pass these papers to you," he added as he waved the papers at his face.
Lucas took the papers from Jacob and flipped through it. It was blank report papers with instructions stating that he had to write 800 pages long.
"800 pages?! That is too much! The last time I wrote was 560 and that was just yesterday," he protested.
Although he is a serious and a hardworking person, Lucas always end the day writing reports as he had to make at least one mistake during his duty. He was always focused but he just had to make an error to end a day.
Jacob shrugged his shoulders and flipped the file that he was holding, "The error you did today caused danger to humans thus the increase."
Lucas was obviously not happy with it but he had no choice. Jacob got up and ruffled Lucas's hair as he got ready to leave.
"Good luck~" he tried to encourage him and waved goodbye as he disappeared into the thin air.

The shift for the Day was done and everyone except Lucas was left in the office. He stretched his arm out and got the report papers and pen ready. He was determined to complete it as quickly as he could so that he could reach the gathering before it end.
"That Head of Sky is such a mean old man. He could have just let me off this time," he muttered under his breath as he wrote the first sentence, not knowing that someone had appeared behind him.
"Excuse me?!"
The sudden hoarse voice made Lucas jumped. He knew exactly who it belonged to. He turned around slowly and smiled timidly at Aaron, the Head of the Sky, who stomped inside his office. "I'm just 5 years older than you," Aaron was clearly not happy with the comment that Lucas had made.
Lucas made a sheepish chuckle and apologized.
"But you did not have to appear all of a sudden."
Aaron raised his eyebrows as if to say that it was usual for Galaxians to appear suddenly. Aaron was the direct supervisor of Lucas. He was only known as Aaron, nothing more and nothing less.
It was a mystery as to why his name was just 'Aaron'. What was more mysterious was that he always wore a mask and his left arm was bandaged. No one knew how he actually looked like and what happened to his arm, not even Ryan and Jacob who worked directly under him.
Aaron cleared his throat before he parted his lips to speak. "Anyways, I'm here to tell you that you can go to the gathering but you have to complete the report tomorrow."
Hearing that he could go to the gathering, Lucas got up and hugged Aaron out of excitement which obviously creped him out. Lucas gave him a wide grin and his eyes were sparkling.
"Really?! I can go?! Thank you! Thank you!" he exclaimed in excitement but Aaron pushed him away and coughed to notify Lucas that he was not comfortable with the lack of personal space.
Not that Lucas cared but he still let go off him. He gave him a gummy smile and rushed to his table. He started cleaning up his table and packing his things.
"But you have to complete it by tomorrow," Aaron reminded him.
Lucas nodded and quickly teleported to his room so that he could change out of his uniform as fast as he could. He checked the time and realized he was running out of time. Not wanting to be late, he put on his suit. He was having difficulty knotting his tie and started getting irritated so he just transported to the gathering.

"Whoah! Look who was so excited that he didn't even wear his clothes properly."
Jacob teased him and only stopped when he noticed that he was being glared at. Lucas looked around and figured out there were too many people which would make it more difficult to spot Leila Madison. He sighed and tried putting on his tie again.
Ryan made an offer to grab some drink for Lucas who was exhausted from transportation. "That would be great," he told him. Without him noticing, he was left all alone with Jacob flirting with ladies and Ryan off to talk with Heads as he was on the way to get drinks. He was too focused on his tie that he didn't notice a person standing in front of him.
He was still having a hard time tying it and sighed out of frustration. Long, slender fingers reached out to his neck and pulled his tie.
"Let me help you," that person offered and only then he realized someone was actually standing before him.
The voice belonged to a lady whom he had never heard before. She knotted the tie without any difficulty while he was still unaware of the situation.
His eyes slowly moved from her fingers to the silky blonde hair of a lady helping him and slowly at her face. Her voice, which sounded like an angle, echoed inside his mind. She looked up and her beautiful round blue eyes met his. So beautiful.
The lady smiled at him and he was drawn into her eyes. Soon, he became mesmerized by her looks that he was only looking at her and being oblivious to the surrounding until Ryan placed a cold cup of cocktail at his face which brought him back to reality.
"Looks like you found who you wanted to meet?" Jacob threw his hands around his shoulder. Lucas blinked at him, wondering what he meant.
"Well then, please excuse me gentlemen," the gorgeous lady excused herself and headed to Aaron who called her.
"Will you look at that? She never fails to surprise me with her looks. This is probably the first time I properly saw her," Jacob exclaimed as he sipped his drink.
Lucas could not take his eyes off her. He wondered how he had not notice such a beauty before. He wished that he could have formally introduced himself and spent more time with her.
Eventually, he remembered that he came to this gathering to find the Guardian of the Night. With time ticking, the gathering was coming to an end. His friends told him to have fun since it has been years since the last gathering was held. He could not argue with that and really wanted to enjoy the gathering but he went to find the Guardian of Night instead.

The gathering came to an end and Lucas failed to find the person he was searching for. He went back to meet his friends with a long face.
"Well, you ran away from us but we gotta ask you. What did you talk with Guardian of the Night?"
Ryan asked him curiously and only received a shrug as a response. Lucas pinched the bridge of his nose and sighed out of frustration.
"I didn't even get to meet her."
Ryan and Jacob looked at each other confused and then back at Lucas. "But you were with her back then."
Lucas did not really understand what Jacob was saying. He gave a blank stare to the two of them, indicating that he had no idea what they were talking about.
"Dude, you didn't know? That beautiful girl who helped you was Leila Song, the Guardian of the Night."
