Chapter 18

Leila couldn't believe what she just heard.

"What are you talking about, Tyler?" she thought she probably heard it wrongly. She believed he was probably just joking around like he always did.

Tyler shook his head in disappointment and let out a sigh.

"I know you are not that dumb."

The entire time, he had his gun pointed straight towards Leila and yet Leila did not have slight doubts about him. She just believed in him. She wanted to.

"Let me have your wings."

This time, it was loud and clear. Leila could clearly tell that he was being serious.

"Why?"

For the first time, Tyler put his gun down. He walked towards the paintings and looked at them with admiration.

"Your wings are the work of God. With those wings, I will have the power to do literally anything," he exclaimed in excitement.

Leila was shocked by his words. Her throat went dry and her mind went blank. The person in front of her was definitely not Tyler.

She thought of ways to bring Tyler back to his normal self. She would have talk through him so that he could return back to his own self. He had completely lost his mind.

"Look, Leila. Let me spell it out for you. I had always wanted your wings. Now, give it to me so that I won't have to kill you."

He aimed his gun at her once again.

Wings of an angel are their life. A broken winged angel is basically death. And Tyler knew it the best. She couldn't think of any other options. Her plan was to either knock some sense into him by talking to him or to kill him.

The second option was out. She couldn't bring herself to kill him. But the first one did not seem to be working as well.

"What if I say no?"

He laughed heartily and smirked as if she just told a joke. "Then I'll get it by force," he said as he flashed past her and pulled the trigger.

She was caught off guard so she did not have enough time to avoid the bullet. Luckily, she was very reflexive and the bullet ended up only hitting the side of her arm. Blood dripped from her arm and she winced.

"As expected of an Angel." He clapped his hands to applaud her. "But stop pretending to be hurt," he growled at her angrily.

Leila breathed in deeply and slowly. Soon, her wound closed by itself and she was completely healed. Another ability of an Angel that every Galaxian envied.

The moment she recovered, Tyler hit her from the back without giving her time to respond. But then the wings defended her. Still, the force was too strong that she almost fell down. Tyler continued throwing punches and all Leila did was to block his attacks. "Take out your sword!" He demanded angrily.

Leila hesitated in attacking back as she did not wish to hurt him. She scanned him and noticed the watch she gave still wrapped on his wrist. There was hope.

Tyler noticed her staring at something and looked down as well. He smirked and held his wrist up where Leila's eyes followed upon his move.

He took off his watch using his free hand and threw it away. "That is worthless for me. Now, can you be serious with me?" he groaned impatiently.

Leila shockingly stared at the broken watch.

"You know the best that wings are everything to an Angel."

"That is no longer my problem," he sighed and tapped his foot on the floor impatiently.

Leila clenched her fists and bit her lips as tears rolled down her eyes.

"Why? What happened to you?"

"I never liked you, Leila. I had always been jealous of your wings. I have always wanted them and that was the reason why I befriended you. In order to travel to human world and gain power. But it was worthless and now I had to resort to this."

Her world crumpled into pieces as she heard his explanation. She wanted to tell him to snap out of it but she couldn't bring herself to. She didn't have the energy to. Her heart was torn into pieces.

"It was true I really had fun being with you but that was just a part of me enjoying along in order to not be obvious," he added.

She wanted him to stop. She didn't want to hear anything from him anymore. Her heart couldn't take it as she realized all those smiles and memories were fake. Everything was fake. Tyler, he was a fake.

Her face darkened. "So you were just using me?" she asked. She wished for him to at least lie.

"Were you even listening to me? I was just using you all this time."

And that was it.

She spread her palm and blue light shone around her hand. A white sword with golden handle appeared in her hand.

"Then, I can't go easy on you."

She slowly held her sword up and she pointed it at him.

"I can't let you have my wings just like that."

"That's more like it."

The corners of his lips curved up and they broke off into a fight. Although Tyler was a powerful Guardian, he had difficulty defending himself. She was way faster and stronger than him. That was the difference in power between a Guardian and an Angel.

Leila flew past him and grabbed onto his back but Tyler was quick enough to slap her hand away and jumped backwards, far enough for him to escape from her grasp. He pulled his trigger continuously and bullets were shot directly at her.

Leila was different from before. Her eyes were more focused and she knew exactly where the bullets were flying towards. She jumped and closed her wings to her sides so that she could move faster. She darted into the air and avoided every bullets shot at her.

Tyler soon ran out of bullets. While he was trying to reload it, Leila was already behind him. She hit him in the back using the back of the sword. The force was strong enough to make him fly across the room.

He coughed out blood and collapsed onto the ground as he hit the wall. She flew towards him and pinned him down on the floor. She raised her sword in the air, ready to stab him anytime.

"Kill me."

"Why did you do that?" she asked. "You could have just come at me straight."

He averted his eyes and remained silent. Something was definitely off. There was something behind all of this scheme.

"If you are not killing me, then I'll kill you."

He held up his gun which had been filled with bullets. He shot her in the shoulder which caused her to scream in pain. A part of her wings got torn off.

She slapped his hand away and the gun flew off. She then gripped her sword tightly and brought it down with force in the end.

Lucas listened attentively to every word she said. He wondered why this Tyler person would do such a thing to someone like Leila. But there was something he couldn't understand.

"If Tyler did not take your wings then who did?"

"I was held at the court by the Heads after that and charged for murder. As an exchange for the life of a Galaxian, my wings were torn apart and I was banned from interacting with any Galaxian. Without my wings, I could not teleport anywhere. In addition, I had to take over Tyler's duty and became the Guardian of the Night."

"But it was for self-protection."

In Galax, any actions used for protection could easily evade any punishments. That was one of the laws that had been introduced by the Heads.

"It's different, Lucas. I'm an Angel so I'm basically an outsider. Such rules don't apply to me."

He believed it was unfair no matter what. His eyes landed on the scars on her back and imagined the white wings on the painting spreading across. It must have been very beautiful.

He quickly wrapped up by cleaning up the medicine on her back so that she did not catch cold from exposing her back for way too long. The moment he finished, she quickly covered the scars as if she had been waiting to and turned to face him.

"Thank you and sorry for making you see such an ugly thing."

He raised his eyebrow and looked her confused.

"Everything about you is beautiful."

Her heart skipped a beat and her cheeks flushed pink upon hearing that. But then she realized that this was impossible.

Who would ever thought of a sinner with a huge scar on her back beautiful?

She just gave him a weak smile and turned her head away.

Suddenly, she felt arms wrapped around her waist tightly as if he was desperate. He placed his head on her back and said, "I know you don't believe me."

Leila could feel his breath on her neck and felt chills running down her spine but not in a creepy way. Instead, she loved it. She felt loved. Something that she shouldn't be feeling.

She pushed his hands away and faced him. She didn't want to break him by holding onto him.

"You don't understand. It's too dangerous for you to be with me. Just forget me like you've never met me before."

"Then, say you hate me."

He grabbed her shoulders and held her chin so that she could not avoid eye contact.

"I know angels can't lie so tell me you hate me and I'll leave as you wish."

Her heart clenched when she felt his desperation. She couldn't lie but she didn't want to hurt him. She knew it was better to let him go.

"You can't be in love with a sinner."
