(important) a/n: hiya guys!!!!! wow, it's been 3 months since my last chapter...I fully meant to update the day of Halloween, but life happens and things don't always go as planned. but anyways, I'm back now. hopefully for good..haha. thanks for being patient with me...
so um, if you're wondering why the title is different than most other chapters (and maybe are wondering why it says '2013',) it's because ,this is going to be the first of a few of my planned 'blast to the past' chapters, if you will. basically, these are not necessarily flashbacks that Jungkook is having currently in the story (I don't want people to get mixed up between jungkooks personal traumatic flashbacks, and these), but more so little pieces of Jungkook's (and eventually taehyung's) past that will be relevant to the upcoming chapter(s) (so, in this case, the upcoming part 9). some may say that these are not completely necessary to the overall plot in itself, but I believe they are, and I will be explaining a little bit why I consider them to be so. but first, I'd like to say that i am a person who loves character development and their backgrounds, as it gives a reader more insight as to what a specific character has been through, and basically, it's a way you can get to know them and their past better. so this is why I chose to do this. if you do not care about characters pasts, then by all means, skip. but I personally believe a characters past is very important to a story line, especially if it falls under a drama category. so yeah, this is not a short little story by any means, and if you wanted a quick, action filled story with no backstory whatsoever, this is not for you. I have thought out this story long and carefully, and I have a lot I want to do with it.
so, with that being said, to the people who want to learn more about the characters and see developement;
these 'flashbacks' may include people who are not currently in the story (for e.g., jungkooks and taehyungs parents) so in the future if said character is brought up, you will have an idea of how he/she's character's personalities were through these past parts, and the relationship Jungkook and/or Taehyung had with said character... If that makes sense (I really hope it does). if you couldn't tell, this story is focused on a lot of jungkooks and taehyungs troubled past, so that's why I felt it appropriate to include these...so ya'll get an idea of how jungkook and taehyung were, and how they came to be the way they are today, and show their progression through the story, and the secret struggles they faced.
and one last thing regarding these parts - these may get sort of violent, so I'm warning you now. I will put warning beforehand if they include anything that may be triggering. so, yeah. sorry for the long a/n, but I want everyone to understand what is going on =) if you have any questions, please ask and I will do my best to answer. but keep in mind, there will be more of these that may just answer your questions in the future.
sorry If this isnt what you were hoping for, but a proper part 9 should be out in a couple days, and it will be sort of a continuation to this so ,look forward to that (late) Halloween themed chapter ^^ . and as always, thanks for reading ♡

A 12 year old Jungkook pulled his earbuds out of one of his ears after hearing what sounded like a bang coming from outside of his room. He didn't immediately get up to investigate the noise, but instead sat there, listening to the sounds of his father rummaging through plastic bags - of which was followed by the familiar sound of a cap being popped off of, presumably, a beer bottle and soon after, landing on the hardwood floor.
Having come to the conclusion that the bang was probaby just the front door slamming upon his father's arrival, Jungkook takes a deep breath in and out and goes to insert his earbud back into his ear, but was stopped after hearing his name being called out.
"Jungkook! Get your ass out here, I have something for you." He hears, making his heart instantly pick up in pace.
Jungkook always dreaded whenever his father called for him, as it usually meant he was going to be ordered to do chores, or was in for a scolding - or even worse. In fact, he couldn't even remember the last time his father had something good to say to him.
The two's relationship had always been pretty rocky from the start, but, even so, Jungkook knew he couldn't just ignore him. He had to come whenever he was commanded to, despite how fearful he was of his father. And plus, he knew if he had ignored him, the punishment for that would probably end up being ten times worse than just the typical punishment alone - something of which he's, unfortunately, come to learn over the years.
So, even though he wished he could just sit there all day in his own little world and keep pretending like his father didn't exsist, Jungkook reluctantly puts his CD player back into his drawer and hurriedly scrambled out of the comfort of his bed.
"Coming!" He calls out loud and clear, practically running to his bedroom door.
. . .
As Jungkook came around the corner, his father - who was sitting on the sofa - lifted his wrist up to his face, looking down at the watch wrapped around it. "Mm-hm. Much faster than last time." His father says with a smirk, and chuckles a slow, menacing chuckle. "That's what I like to see..." He drops his hand down to his side onto a plastic bag that was laying beside him - his other hand bringing the bottle of beer he was holding onto, up to his lips, "..an obedient one." he finishes before taking a sip.
Jungkook slowly walks over with his hands holding tightly onto the bottom of his shirt, stopping a few feet in front of the couch. "You needed me..?" He said in a quite, almost squeaky voice - his eyebrows pulled inwards, giving him a worriful look.
Jungkook's father lowered the beer bottle from his mouth and pats the plastic bag with his hand. "I got something for you."
Jungkook's eyes redirected down to the bag, then back up to his dad's face. "W-what is it..?" He asks.
"I was thinking about it, and.." He lifts the bag up. "...after we spoke the other night, I was starting to feel guilty for not ever letting you go Trick-Or-Treating." He looked over at the bag, then back to Jungkook with a half smirk. "So...I went out and got you a little something."
Jungkook perks his head up a bit and relaxed his hands, letting them drop down to his sides. "Y-you...got me the Super Mario costume that I asked for..? So Minnie and I can go together as Mario and Luigi??" He asked, his eyebrows lifting up in surprise.
"Hmm-hmm. How about you look for yourself?" His father replies, tossing the bag over to him.
Jungkook's head dropped down, staring down at the bag that landed at his feet, in complete silence. As much as he wanted to drop down onto his knees and begin tearing open the bag, there was something off about his father's demeanor - making him feel reluctant to do so.
Was it actually going to be what he asked for? Or was it going to be a cruel joke?
. . .
"Well?? What the hell are you waiting for? For it to become sentient and crawl out on it's own??" He leaned forward on the edge of the couch. "Open it."
Jungkook swallowed his saliva and leaned down to pick up the bag. He opens it up slowly, peering down inside of it. "What...?" He says, his eyebrows lowered in confusion.
Intead of seeing Mario's iconic blue and red outfit inside, he was greeted by an overwhelming color of pink. "What is this..?" He asks and looks up at his father.
"Take it out."
Jungkook looked back down at the bag and reached inside, began slowly pulling the article of clothing out as his father instructed him to. As he pulled, it became more and more apparent as to what it was, and, to Jungkook's dismay, it didn't take long to become obvious that it was, in fact, just a cruel joke - just like he had partially expected.
"Well, what do you think??" His father asked in a mockingly excited tone, getting no response from the younger.
Jungkook stood there on the verge of tears, staring at the Princess Peach dress in his arms. a small portion inside of him had thought maybe, just maybe, his father would turn out to be a decent person and take him seriously for once - but this was just yet another wake up call that, no, this would never be the case.
His father stood from the couch and walked over to Jungkook, who had began to draw back the closer he reached. "What's with the long face? You don't like it?"
"It's...a girl's costume.." Jungkook whispered.
Jungkook's dad stops directly in front of the cowering younger. "And..?"
"I...don't want to wear a girl's costume.." Jungkook dropped his head down.
Jungkook's dad tilted his head to the side, a fake confused look coming over his face. "You don't..? But, I thought you wanted to be a girl."
Jungkook looked up at his father standing before him. "w-what...why would you think that?" He asked.
"Oh, I don't know.." Jungkook's father lifted up the laptop that was sitting nearby on the coffee table, flips it open. "..does this answer your question?" He faces the laptop's screen towards Jungkook, revealing a YouTube history tab that he had pulled up before calling him out,in plans of confronting the younger with it.
Jungkook's heart dropped upon seeing a search he had made, just a few days prior - having completely forgotton to delete it before returning the laptop to it's original place.
"Would you like to read this one - he points to the screen - out loud to me? In case I, you know, misread it." He said.
"I-I..." Jungkook parted his mouth as he tried thinking of an excuse, but nothing came to him - his mind having gone completely blank due to the debilitizing fear he was feeling.
Jungkook's dad stood there, waiting and watching as Jungkook struggled to even form a single word. "What...? Cat got your tongue?" He says and Jungkook's bottom lip started trembling.
"Well...that's ok. I'll do it for you, and you can just tell me if it's correct, alright?" He rotated the computer around and adjusted the glasses on his face, leaned in closer to the screen. He clears his throat as he began reading out the specific search history in question;
"How to tell a homophobic parent that you are gay." As he reads it outloud, Jungkook brings his hands up to cover his reddened face - his hands shaking wildly.
Jungkook's dad lowers the laptop down and sets it back on the table, crosses his arms as he looked down at his - visibly - shaken son. "Homophobic, hm? Since when did you learn such big words?" He asks.
"I-I'm so sorry, dad..." Jungkook mumbles through his hands. "Please don't be mad at me...I'm sorry I didn't tell you, but I was scared...and I didn't know what else to do..!" Tears start trickling down his warm cheeks, his mind going one hundred miles an hour as he pictured everything his dad was going to do to him. "P-please don't use the stick again...please.." He begs squeakily, though it was hardly audible.
"I'm not mad, Jungkook." His father says, and Jungkook nearly collapses after feeling his hand being placed on his shoulder.
silence...
After his brain finally registered what his father had said, and realizing there was no pain in the place he was currently being touched, Jungkook blinked and slowly lifted his face up and out of his hands - his eyes puffy and red. "....-sniff- y-you're not...?" He asks, partially in shock.
His father shook his head 'no'. "If I were mad, would I have gone out and gotten you a Halloween costume today?"
Jungkook wiped his eyes, still slightly shaking. He didn't respond, since, he honestly didn't really know how to. Jungkook's father had always turned to aggression every time he did something even the slightest bit wrong in his eyes, and had never once talked things out before - so, needless to say, this behavior was foreign to the 12 year old.
His father stood up from his, previously, leaned down state and took the dress from Jungkook's hands. He held it out in front of Jungkook, tilting his head as he imagined the younger dressed in it. "I got this for you to show you that I supported your realization."
"B-but..." Jungkook wipes his runny nose. "...why did you get me a girl's dress...I-I still don't understand..?"
"Well, because Jungkook...like I said before...you obviously really want to be a girl...considering you like boys." He lowered the dress down. "You know...because girls like boys."
"Wait, but...boys can like boys too.."
Jungkook's dad shook his head 'no.' "I never said I would support a boy who likes another boy. But I will support a girl who likes boys." He offered the dress out. "So, if you want to identify as a girl, and start acting and dressing like one from here on out, I will support you......otherwise.." He runs the tip of his fingers along his belt. "...we're going to have to have a long talk."
Jungkook gasped and widened his eyes, knowing exactly what that was a hint for. His arms lunge out and grabbed onto the dress that his father was holding onto, and hugs it to himself tightly. "N-no, I'll wear it!" He practically yells.
His father smiled a sly smile and patted the top of Jungkook's head. "Good girl." He turned around to towards the couch, plops back down onto it and grabbed onto his beer that was waiting for him on the side table. Meanwhile, Jungkook was staring down at the dress.
Jungkook's father takes a long sip and lets out a satisfied ahhh as he watched Jungkook. "...too bad your mother isn't here...she always wanted a daughter."
Jungkook, not paying any attention to what his father was mumbling, tried masking his visible disapproval for the dress, and tried convincing himself inside that it was no big deal.
He'll support me if I wear it.. He perks his head up a little bit. wait...does this mean he's beginning to love me now..? He thought, making the circumstances seem just a little bit brighter.
"Oh, and Jungkook?" His father says, causing him to look up.
"When you wear that tonight...make sure and cover up your arms. I don't need your friend's faggot father coming over and questioning me again because of your stupidity."
Jungkook looked down at his arms that were scattered with bruises and lashes, then looks back up "..I will, sir." He says.
"Now go put it on. I want to see." His father says and takes a big gulp of his beer.
"Yes, sir." Jungkook said and gathered up the dress and plastic bag, hurried out of the living room towards his bedroom - his father shaking his head and letting out a sharp laugh after he heard Jungkook's bedroom door shut.
"So naive.."
a/n: i just want to say real quick that IN NO WAY DO I CONDONE THE USAGE OF THE 'F' WORD. the only reason why i used it was to show how scummy jungkook's dad's character is. it is not used willy-nilly by me, and only under specific circumstances in my fictional stories will i ever use it. it was not meant to personally offend anyone in the lgbt community, or anyone in general. i love ya'll, ok? and if you ever do get called that by someone in the future, give 'em one of these ┌П┐(►˛◄'!) /end mini rant

Halloween, 2013, 9:00pm
Jungkook's father was sitting alone on the couch, watching game shows as he opened up his 7th beer. He had ignored every single trick-or-treater that had come to his house for the past two hours and, to the stubborn ones that kept ringing the bell, would yell out a loud "fuck off" to them, of which would usually scare them off.
He reached over and grabbed the big bowl of candy that was sitting on the cofee table - the candy of which was supposed to have been handed out - and began unwrapping and shoveling multiple mini candy bars into his mouth at once - laughing every now and then at the answers the contestants would give to the tv show host.
"Stupid fuckers...i'm shitfaced and even i know that.." he slurred his words as he spoke.
*knock knock*
. . .
*knock knock*
"FUCK OFF!" he yelled.
"It's me.." He hears, recognizing the voice coming from the other side of the door.
Jungkook's dad looked down at his watch. "What the fuck is he doing back here?" He said and let out a groan as he lifted up from the couch - tossing the bowl of candy aside.
~
Jungkook waited patiently as he listened to his dad stumbled his way over towards the door, lifting his head up when he hears him unlock, and unlatch the door. "I thought I wasn't going to have to see your face 'til morning." His father greeted him with.
"Minnie got sick from eating all of her candy before we even got to her house...so she had to call her dad and go and get her stomach pumped at the hospital.."
"Are you serious??"
"It's not funny, dad.." Jungkook said after his father had burst out into laughter.
"Yeah it is, serves her bratty ass right. Now hurry up and get your ass inside before those snot-nosed kids see us." His father said and motioned him inside after seeing a group of kids coming down the street.
Jungkook sighed and reluctantly walked inside, feeling bummed that he wasn't able to stay at his friend Minnie's house - a placed he actually felt welcomed in, and felt safe in.
"Where's your candy?" His father asked as Jungkook shut the door behind him, empty handed.
Jungkook slumped his head down as he rubbed a spot on his arm that was throbbing in pain. "It was taken.."
His father turned his head. "What do you mean 'it was taken'? By who?" He asked.
"These stupid boys that were making fun of me because of my costume. Minnie tried getting it back, but...she was too short to reach the bag.."
"Pfft, why wouldn't they make fun of you?" He snickered and Jungkook looks up at him. "What did you expect going out in the public like that? You look fucking ridiculous." His father laughed. "I can't believe you actually put that shit on." He flicked the crown off of Jungkook's head, causing him to blink, then starts heading back over towards the sofa.
"What are you talking about..? You...you told me to.."
"Ha. If I told you to jump off a cliff, you would, wouldn't you? Wow.." He took a swig of beer and looked back at the TV. "I really fucked you up, boy." He snorted.
"Y-you mean...you did this just to be mean..? You don't actually support me..?"
"You really think that wearing a dress would magically make me accept your disgusting ways? Damn, you're dumber than I thought."
Jungkook eyebrows went from looking saddened, to angered as he listened to his dad laugh. "You tricked me.." He said.
"Way to state the obvious." He crossed his leg over the other. "So, consider tonight your punishment." He shooed him out. "Now, go to your room and do whatever it is little gay boys do."
Jungkook balled his fists up, his chest moving in and out as his breathing picked up. "I hate you." He mumbled.
His father lowered his beer down and looked over at Jungkook. "What did you just say to me?"
"I hate you." Jungkook repeated, but louder.
Jungkook's father blinked and set his beer down on the table, stood up from the sofa - the two staring intently each other. "Say that shit to me one more time and your ass is getting it." His father said.
Jungkook took a deep breath in, "I HATE YOU SO MUCH! YOU'RE THE WORST FATHER ANYONE COULD EVER HAVE! WHY CAN'T YOU BE LIKE MINNIE'S DADS?!" Jungkook yelled and picked up a empty beer bottle that was lying on the floor nearby, hurls it towards his dad, but he dodged it.
*CRASH*
Jungkook blinked as the mirror on the wall, including the bottle, shattered into a tiny pieces, the loud sound bringing him back into the reality - and making him instantly realize the huge mistake he had just made. His father slowly turns his head towards Jungkook and away from the mirror, his mouth parted and the look in his eyes as sharp as a knife - the sight sending fear straight into Jungkook's heart.
Jungkook unballed his hands and lifted them up in front of him, standing in a defensive position. "....w-wait I...I-I didn't mean it..! i-i was just mad! I-I'll fix it!" He said, his timid voice having returned, but even more fearful sounding than usual.
Jungkook's dad gritted his teeth, his upper lip starting to twitch out of rage. "Oh, you've done it now.." He looked over beside the couch and grabbed whatever was closest - the object being one of his prized golf clubs.
"Dad..." Jungkook eyes widened as he began backing away from his fuming father that was quickly closing in - his hand wrapped so tightly around the handle of the club that his knuckles were white. "Please-" He screeched as his father swung the golf club at him. He ducks just in time, feeling the air barely graze the top of his head - the golf club missing him by mere inches, and instead crashing into the nearby floor lamp.
"GET BACK HERE!" His drunken father yelled to Jungkook, who had taken the opportunity - after he had swung - to make a run for the front door.
. . .
Jungkook was running down the sidewalk as fast as his legs were able to take him - his father not too far behind him, clumsily chasing him with the golf club in hand. He tried wiping the fast-falling tears from his eyes, the tears making it nearly impossible to see the ground in front of him, but they were coming so quickly, it was no use. The last time his father got this angry hadn't ended particulary nicely, and this terrified the 12 year old, but he was hoping, if he had ran long and fast enough, his father would then tire, and be too weak to do much harm when he would inevitable catch up to him.
"Why did I do that?? Why did I do that??" Jungkook cried out loud to himself.
"JUNGKOOOK!"
. . .
"Hey look, there he is!" A group of boys called out, causing Jungkook to look over his shoulder for a mere second - his eyes spotting the same group of boys from before who had stolen his candy and given him utter hell, just 20 minutes prior.
"Where you going, Princess?!" They yelled out and, to Jungkook's horror, began, too, chasing him down the street - the boys having not even noticed his father, who was not far behind - still wielding the golf club.
Why me?? Jungkook thought and darted around the corner, trying to hold his dress up so he didn't trip and fall on it. Meanwhile, parents and their children were just passing by, chuckling at the sight - assuming it was just another one of those silly Halloween pranks.
