Chapter 1: The Honor
Two choices.
One chance.
No time to choose.
Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III
"Ya get to kill the dragon laddie!" Gobber cheered, slapping me playfully on the back. My face nearly dropped in sorrow. I snapped out of it and masked my emotions with a stony expression.
Several Vikings cheered.
I couldn't disappoint, so I plastered on a fake smile and pumped my fist in the air in fake victory.

I was heading to the docks so I could see if I could borrow some leather for a spare tail for Toothless when I heard my father and Gobber talking.
"... Hiccup?" My father started forwards.
"You'll be glad to know your parenting problems are over!" Gobber smiled.
Stoick stopped. "He's gone?"
My steps faltered. That's his first thought? Tears stung my eyes and a small sniffle escaped my quivering lips.
I stole one more glance before taking off towards the forge. I snatched all my inventions' plans and my drawings. I grabbed several iron ores and some leather.
I packed them into a satchel I kept in the forge for emergencies.
I sprinted to my house where I took my charts, charcoal pencils, and journals.
I swiped several outfits and took some fish and bread from our small kitchen. I heard heavy footsteps and so I jumped out of the back window.
I raced to the cove where I set everything down. I felt guilty because even though I was mistreated here, it's still home. My only friend was Gobber and he didn't deserve this. I took out a piece of parchment and one of my charcoal pencils.
I wiped my tears and climbed out of the cove. Sneaking back into the forge, I left the letter on my desk.
I ran out and back to the cove.
Toothless was waiting for me and he cooed sympathetically. I attached my bags to his saddle securely and clambered on.
Toothless released a screech before spreading his wings to catch an updraft.
We flew off together, Toothless's scales reflecting the setting sun.
