Singing
Ahoy fellows! I apologize for my absence, I've just had so little motivation to write, or publish anything in general! I hope everyone had a good holiday, good Christmas, New Year, or whatever you might celebrate. Here is a little drabble I wrote recently (it COULD be considered a Christmas story).
This story takes place before season 1, just a little while after the Pilots.
Disclaimer: I do not own Ninjago or the lines in this story. Those belong to LEGO and Elf respectively.
"Do you sing, Nya?"
"Do I what?"
"Sing?" Jay asked earnestly.
"Uhh, no," Nya replied, unsure what prompted this question. "Why do you ask?"
"No reason," Jay shrugged. "I just thought that if you did sing you'd probably have the best singing voice in the whole wide world."
Nya blushed, shifting awkwardly. It was quite possibly the nicest thing anyone had ever said to her, and Jay had said in so nonchalantly, as if they were simply discussing the weather.
"Uh, th-thanks" Nya stammered. She didn't even know why he was talking to her, they barely knew each other anyway.
"You know singing is just like talking," Jay continued. "Except louder, and longer, and you move your voice up and down."
"I know HOW to sing," Nya clarified. "I just choose not to. Especially in front of other people."
"Why? If you sing alone, you can sing in front of other people, there's no difference."
Nya scoffed. "Actually there's a big difference."
Jay shook his head insistently. "No- no there isn't. Watch."
He looked around to see who was in the room with them. The only other people besides themselves were Kai and Zane, who were sitting on the couch immersed in an epic battle of Fist to Face on the PS3.
Jay smiled reassuringly at Nya and then started singing.
"I'm singing! I'm in the Monastery and I'm singing!"
Nya winced as his voiced cracked. Truth be told, he was a terrible singer, but he didn't seem the least bit embarrassed about it.
Kai and Zane looked around, trying to find the source of the singing. When their eyes found Jay and Nya, Kai scrunched up his nose in disgust at Jay's song, but Zane only looked mildly puzzled. Nya had to hide the soft smile that had creeped upon her lips at Jay's confidence.
"...I'm in the Monastery, aND i'M SINGING!"
"Hey!" A voice snapped. They all looked around to see Cole sticking his head in the room, looking stern. Jay stopped singing.
"There's no singing in the Monastery!" Cole said firmly, before turning to leave.
"Yes there is!" Jay insisted after him.
"No, there's not!"
"A Monastery is a place of peace!" Jay called as Cole left for kitchen. "And singing is as peaceful as it gets!"
"Not that singing!" Cole yelled back.
Jay scrunched up his nose in annoyance, sticking his tongue out in Cole's general direction.
By now Kai and Zane had gone back to their game, and Jay turned to Nya.
"See?" he said happily, a smile back on his face again.
Nya bit her knuckle to hold back giggles that had bubbled to the surface. She had to admit that as dorky as this kid was, he was definitely adorable.
I hope you enjoyed this little spoon of randomness and I hope your January is going well! XD
Peace out folks B)
