Humming along (Chapter 5)

Back to my baby Katsuki

Though I've never been through hell like that
I've closed enough windows to know you can never look back
If you're lost and alone
Or you're sinking like a stone
Carry on
May your past be the sound of your feet upon the ground
Carry on

Walking alone in the trees, the noises echoing among the branches, and lifting the spirits of the birds and bugs. Katsuki sang as the instrumental played through his earbuds. Unfortunately no one was curious about Kat and where he goes in the morning. The bakusquad was walking like normal, blabbing about the tea at school.

He emerged at the end of the tree line and stopped singing, he wouldn't want people knowing he sings. He walks into the hallway and looks for the notebook he had left there the night before. With no luck he clicks his tongue and goes into class. Ten minutes before the bell is going off so he simply listened and hummed quietly to his music.

About half way through the second song playing, a tall blond boy walked up to desk. Kat knew the extra and knew he never is confident enough to talk to anyone. He doesn't even talk to Deku that often. "Need something, Hibiscus?"

Ah yes, the beautiful nickname was from Shoya's first day at UA. He got startled in class when All Might shouted and he turned into a hibiscus plant.

"Um I was at school yesterday and I found your notebook and I thought I'd return it to you..." his voice was barely above a whisper but audible still over Kat's ear buds. He shuffled around in his book bag looking for the small notebook, but when he found it he practically dropped it on his desk and running back to his seat, 2 desks behind himself.

"Bakubro, what was that? You didn't even thank Shoya." Kirishima walked up and sat on Katsuki's desk.

Kat clicks his tongue, "since when do I thank people? He touched my belongings, he should thank me for not blowing up his face after he touched my notes."

"Still, he did something nice. Go thank him."

"Too late, teacher's here."

Gran Torino opens the door and surprises almost everyone. His short appearance made a few students, lean forwards to see him. Iida instinctively raises his hand. Torino points at his hand, signaling to hear his question. He jumps onto the podium to see the rest of the class as well.

"Sir, where is Midnight-Sensi? (Did I have a brain fart? I can't spell rn) isn't she our teacher for this block?"

His voice gruffly echos, "well she called in and said she was busy. So let's get on with class." He jets over to the desk and looks through a few papers quickly. "Roll call? Might as well learn a few of your names." He goes through the roll for what feels like forever. The students constantly telling him how to correctly pronounce their names.

"Katsudon Bakugwo?"

"Tch, here." Katsuki didn't even bother telling him how to pronounce it correctly.

"A tasty name ya got there, and who's next- oh, Midoriya?" A few mock gasps were heard at the fact his name was pronounced correctly.

"Here!" His hand shot into the air signaling he was there.

"And a uh, Shoya Kobayashi? Mr Kobayashi are you here?" Shoya froze at hearing his name. Role call became almost non existent since the teachers never changed, and he thought he told them not to call him by his last name. Ever.

Izuku luckily figured this out, "he goes by just Shoya. And he's here."

Torino grumbles something and continues with Momo. "Momo Yafeetza?"

"Yaoyorozu. And here."

"Okay. Let's get on with class then. Let's see..." he looks at his papers and continues. "'Get in your row groups and begin learning the lyrics and tune of the song my shot.' Why is a song called my shot? Does someone get shot?"

Mina practically jumps out of her seat. "It's a song in the musical Hamilton. And it's about rising above the rest and surviving. Not giving up on your chances that life gives you."

"Never heard of it. But get into your groups."

Momo took charge for her group and told Toru, Katsuki, and Shoya to move their desks to the middle with Izuku's. She pulls out her laptop and brings up YouTube and finds the song. It took all of 4 seconds until the familiar tune of ba da-da-da-da ba ba ba oooioooioo was playing. She fast forwarded the track to the song they were singing.

I am not throwing away my shot
I am not throwing away my shot
Hey-o I'm just like my country
I'm young scrappy and hungry
And I am not throwing away my shot

Imma get a scholarship to kings college
I probably shouldn't brag, but dang, I amaze and astonish
The problem is I got a lot of brains but no polish
I gotta holler just to be heard
With every word, I drop knowledge

I'm a diamond in the rough, a shiny piece of coal
Tryna reach my goal my power of speech, unimpeachable

Only nineteen but my mind is older
These New York City streets get colder, I shoulder

Every burden, every disadvantage
I have learned to manage, I don't have a gun to brandish
I walk these streets famished
The plan is to fan this spark into a flame
But damn, it's getting dark, so let me spell out my name

Katsuki began humming along with the familiar song and Toru, who was sitting next to him in the circle, was astonished.

"Bakugo why are you humming along? It's not the song you're singing." She asks him, interrupting the track.

"Something wrong with humming, cellophane?!" He glared at where she would be.

"Umm no, I just found it odd..." she shrunk back in her seat and looked at the rest of the group.

Izuku spoke up, since he's known the land mine longer. "Kacchan, its just not your turn to sing. But uhh go ahead..." then he began murmuring nonsense like how "Sero is Cellophane not her.."

Momo had paused the song when they interrupted, so she unpaused and the group listened.

Shoyo was not happy about his urge to sing the song. He had been wanting this opportunity to belt out the lyrics and find who else was singing. But alas, he couldn't do that to Katsuki. It would ruin him to know his soulmate was just an extra who means nothing to his plan.

Katsuki, just kept humming along. He couldn't really help it, after all, his soulmate was thinking the same thing.
