Chapter Sixteen
Word Count: 1556
~Millicent
I'm stunned.
Sinful leans back against my pillow, flipping through a book. Kyser, poised with his hip against my dresser, stares me down with that unnerving milky white gaze. The situation seems so...odd. Seeing these two incredibly powerful immortals causally existing in this rather insignificant space makes it all the more surreal. I surely assume I would see Sinful in person for a few more weeks at least.
"Someone better explain," I say shakily. Lucy strifes into the room, brushing past Micah as she goes to stand by my faux window. She's putting herself between me and Sinful. It's brave of her, since Sinful has been trying to get his hands on my powerful little guard for awhile. Thankfully his attention is switched to me.
"You first. Do you have a thing for white panties only or...?" I hear Kyser muse.
Flicking my attention back to him, I realise he's opened the top draw of my dresser, rifling through my extra personal belongings. My face drains of all colour.
"This agreement ends the moment you put your hand in my mates draw," Sinful mutters from where he sits.
Kyser holds his hands up defensively, nudging the drawing closed with his elbow.
Blinking a few times, I attempt to make sense of what I'm seeing. Kyser looks no different than usual although seem infinitely more interested in everything else in my room.
Dragging my gaze over to Sinful, I see him watching me. Those lavender eyes are dull, suggesting he's using a great deal of power to be here right now. I'm more distracted, however, by the sight of him on my bed, lounging against my duvet and pillows with his long legs and broad physique. I desire a moment longer to divulge secretly on how effortlessly attractive he looks right now, but I remember how strange this situation is.
"Sinful, what are you doing here?" I ask him. I should be mad at him. I should be panicking, even. However, I can't be. In fact, my entire thought process beyond this moment is getting him alone and figuring out his intentions.
"I'll explain, I promise," he tells me firmly, before his eyes drag over to Micah, who lingers nervously beside me. "How's my darling brother?"
"I'm not your brother," Micah replies.
Sinful waves dismissively. "technicalities."
It's often hard to forget about the Moon's Sin and Virtue creations. They may have the same maker, but I've heard Micah tell me in confidence that he would prefer not to be associated to any of the Sins. Back then, it would be easy to relate to him. Being mated to one has been especially difficult, when the last thing I want is to be is tied to his hip as the submissive female I assume he would like.
"Fascinating, all of this. Now shall we put miss Millicent out of her misery?" Kyser comments, that wicked smile of his suggesting he's dying to tell me as much as I'm dying to hear.
"First of all, did you bait me here with Micah? Why is he relevant?" I question.
Micah nods. "I would love to know the same thing."
"Trust me, it wasn't my idea," Sinful replies blandly.
Kyser rolls his eyes. "Am I the only sensible one here? Look, we are here to talk to you about a plan I've formulated with the help of your rather...jealous mate."
He looks right at me as he says that, causing a surge of chills to run down to back. The concept of Sinful being jealous is so strange to me. What does he have to be jealous of? He's Lust, meaning he can get anyone of his choosing with just a twist of his hand. Him being jealous of me and Micah seems absurd.
"I'm not jealous. I just don't understand why he has to be here. Hasn't he spent enough years disappointing my mate?" Sinful questions, sitting up.
He doesn't look at me, knowing the look he would get if he did.
"Don't act like you know anything about what has gone up here. You have no idea," Micah retorts.
Kyser looks at me pointedly. "Are they always like this?"
"Get to the point, Kyser. What plan?" I question, trying to hurry this all along. As much as this may be entertaining, I'm not impressed by them keeping this all for me. Kyser and Sinful aren't just sitting in the same room together for no reason.
Kyser glances toward Sinful, suggesting he should take the lead on this one.
"We are going to get you out of here. Forever," Sinful breathes, the weight of his gaze matching the heaviness of his words.
It takes me a few moments to let this sink in. My entire time being here, which is almost been forever, I've dreamt of what it would be like to be free. To not have the constant worry of having the Moon come after me. Of not have to worry about impressing anyone. So hearing these words from Sinful's mouth so seriously gives me a glimmer of hope for a moment, before I realise how unlikely this it.
"You're going to need to elaborate," I say slowly. I refuse to believe them right away. I can't trust anyone in this room aside from Lucy, and maybe Micah.
"What he means, is that we are going to remove the tie you have to the Moon. He won't be able to find you again. You'll be able to start a new life," Kyser tells me brightly, waiting for my reaction to be extravagant and excited.
"No. What about the rest of us?" Micah questions.
Kyser rolls his eyes, turning his attention back to the Virtue. "Well Micah, guess what...You'll be taking her place."
More information to take in. I've always considered ways to put someone in my place. The Moon doesn't care about me personally, just the role I'm meant to play. At least that's how I've always assumed it to be, since I've never had a connection with the entity that controls this place.
"It doesn't just work like that," Micah immediately retorts.
"Don't act like you don't want it. I'm sure you can suck up and get the spot. All you need to do is make sure he doesn't miss her too much," Kyser tells him.
"No," Micah growls, before he turns his attention back to me. "Millicent don't. You have a duty."
That's what I'm scared of. Leaving my post and disappointing everyone who has relied on me all these years. My obligation, though, has come to an end. I've spent so long up here, suffering, dreaming of freedom. Maybe this is the last chance I'll get to have a life before the Moon takes it from me as one finally punishment, despite all he has put me through.
Sinful sighs deeply, raising a pointed eyebrow toward the milky eyed immortal. "I told you not to involve him."
"Sinful, ever the wise," Kyser mutters sarcastically. "We need him. He's detrimental to the plan."
"I'm not sure how I'm meant to trust any of you. I have my own things to figure out," I cut in. Hearing all this may bubble excitement up within me, but I know I have no reason to trust Sinful, and especially not for Kyser. Micah is just as skeptical, but clearly has more of an aversion to the individuals in the room.
"We can set you free," Sinful says softly. I meet his gaze, which holds me steady. In his eyes, I can see his desperation. He's not just doing this for me. His motive is to bring his mate back down to his realm. I'm not sure if I want that yet...We have a lot of history to work through.
I narrow my eyes. "And how are you going to do that?"
"I wouldn't worry about that so much yet," He replies, glancing at Kyser. I have a feeling he's keeping this from me not out of his own violation. I wonder what Kyser has against Sinful that means enough for him to do as he pleases. There must be some kind of unspoken deal mulling between them, that I won't see.
I look straight at Kyser, concentrating on the man who paces back and forth in front of my dresser. "Where do you fit into all this? I know why Sinful is in, but somehow I have a feeling this isn't going to come free."
"Just a small catch...I'll be joining you. We will both be escape fugitives of the Moon. It'll be fun," he tells me, clapping his hands together. His smile is strained. He knows the risk of what he's proposing. Even talking about it could get us all killed.
"Fun. How is any of this meant to be fun?" I demand.
"You just have to live a little," Kyser murmurs, winking right at me, like this is a dare, a game. "Are you in?"
