Unconscious Cutting
And so I worked harder than ever and ended with successful results, just like my father promised me. However, a strange problem arose. It was another night just like the night my father had passed, except it was approximately ten years later and the house was empty except for me (I had released the servants since I had no need for them anymore). That night I slept restlessly, shuddering as I dreamed of a shadow slicing a scythe down my throat as I was tied up in chains...and I couldn't do anything but helplessly looking down, as the pain took over my body...
I woke up screaming in despair. I automatically reached for my throat and as other nightmares went, I expected to feel nothing different. However, instead of the norm, I felt a cut. It wasn't too deep, but I felt blood, meaning that it was a fresh cut. Shaking, I tried to recall ever cutting my neck but no scenario came up to me. Being rational, I thought it was just a coincidence...until the next night. The next night, the chains bound me again and the same shadow came up and this time, cut me on my left arm. The next morning, I saw a cut, deeper this time, right on my left arm. Scared to the core, I hurriedly went to talk to my physciatrist, and being a professional, he told me that there wasn't anything to be worried about and it was merely a coincidence. But it kept getting worse and worse. The cuts went deeper and deeper, slashing my body, until one night, I woke up in pure pain, seeing that I had a knife from my downstair kitchen grasped in one hand, blood splattered all over it. I had unconsciously tried to kill myself.
And so I told anyone that would listen. But they all shook their heads and walked away, calling me delusional. No one understood. I was lost in the dark, and had no idea how to get out of there. I vowed never to sleep again, and so I stayed up for three nights straight, not even daring to close my eyes in fear that I would fall into the temptation of sleep and never wake up again. Terribly tired, I kept at it, until one day, I couldn't take it anymore, and I collapsed on the bed.
The shadow came, walking closer and closer, laughing. It knew that this time, it would finally be able to finish the job. My eyes caught the glint of the scythe as the shadow walked steadily towards me, to finish its job. My rigid body went cold with fear. It was going in for the kill. I was definetely going to die this time.
