Planning A Virginia Wedding
This chapter is dedicated to AleCaballeroGermani hahaha you made sure you were first this time!!! I love it!!! Thank you so much!!!
Drake and I surprisingly kept our shower to its purpose, nothing more. We both got dressed in casual clothes, then made our way to the kitchen. I helped Drake make us pancakes and sausage. Then standing between his parted legs as he feeds us everything on the plate.
Once we finished Drake didn't waste a second before dropping a bomb on the remainder of our plans. Unfortunately, he had to fly back to Florida tonight, but would finally be bringing Dean back with him.
As much as the news of our weekend being cut short sucked I couldn't help being a little relieved. Something that was supposed to be simple and fun for a few months has become complicated by my feelings and I could use the break.
I tell him about visiting my mom for the next two weeks to help her with wedding plans. I'd planned on leaving Monday morning, but it would be awesome to surprise her a day early. Drake even left me speechless offering to come down on the 14th of June and stay the entire weekend to meet my mom. I continued to stutter for the right words a couple of hours later as Drake was dropping me off at my apartment.
Mel listened to every detail that went on between Drake and I as she helped me finish packing my things, and loading them into my car. I helped her choose her costume for the Opening Of Summer Party next weekend at Sinful Delight. Ending the night crashed together on the couch with the movies credit rolling across the screen.
I got up super early the next morning. Leaving out of New York before the morning traffic hit. The crowded city streets changing to rolling green fields the more hours that past. My numb ass tingling at the Virginia state line sign. I pull up outside the small house I call home a few hours later. Right as the sun is making its descent.
Moms beat up two door car and Shawn's truck are parked in the driveway. I stop my car in the middle behind theirs to keep it hidden. I leave all my bags in the car except my purse as I get out quietly closing my door. I step on the porch avoiding the spot in front of the door that makes noise and knock. Nervous energy making me rock on my feet, but a blinding smile is on my face.
I heard a female giggle then a thump followed by a laughing "one second!", called out by my mom. My cheeks flame in embarrassment just imagining what they were doing before. The wood door swings open before I can get control of my face. Mom not noticing me at first as she opens the screen door next apologizing.
"Sorry you had to wait...Oh My God, Abbie!!" Jenny Black squeals engulfing me Into her embrace. I just chuckle wrapping my arms around her as well.
Mom released me from her arms long enough to pull me into the house closing the doors behind her. Stopping in the middle of the living room turning around to face me. Holding my arms out to the side looking me over. While a disheveled Shawn embarrassingly true to fix the buttons on his shirt watching moms antics from the couch.
"I can't believe your here! Look at you! Your absolutely glowing! Isn't she glowing, Shawn?" Mom glanced toward Shawn bouncing in excitement.
Shawn gaining major brownie points with me then, not even looking toward me. Only looking at my Mom as he answers. "Yes, Love." Mom blew him a kiss then turned back toward me.
"How long are you here for? I have so many different appointments for the wedding coming up and I need my Maid of Honor here to help me decide." Mom told me bringing our joined hands in front of us leaning in like it was a secret.
"June 16th, but someone's coming on the 14th I want you to meet." I whisper that last part for her only.
Of course Moms eyes light up. "Drake?" She mumbles. I give her a single nod yes begging her with my eyes to drop the subject for now. I don't want to talk about this around Shawn.
Mom completely ignores me. Jenny Black never has let anything stop her from getting what she wants. "Shawn will you go get Abbie's bags from her car? She's exhausted from driving and needs to relax. Come, sit." She says pulling me into the couch as Shawn jumps up heading for the door. Mom sits beside me and gives me her look. The look that says 'tell me now, or I won't stop asking until you do.'
I blow out a breath looking at my hands in my lap. "I need your advice about what's been going on between Drake and I, but I don't want to get into it tonight while Shawn's here. Can we please put it off until it's just you and me? I promise I'll tell you everything then."
My placed her hand under my chin bringing my face up to look her in the eye midway through my plea. She gave me a searching look for a few moments. Then shook her head ok right as the front door opened as Shawn walked back in.
I sat on the couch for awhile laughing and talking with Shawn and Mom as they cooked dinner for the 3 of us. I had a duel commentary of their trip to Paris, and how Shawn proposed, again. Mom already telling me as soon as she got back to Virginia.
We ate dinner at the same round table off the kitchen. The laughter and conversation never slowing. Mom had to work the morning shift the next day. Then that afternoon had the cake tasting scheduled after, and wanted me there. Since Shawn was going to be there also maybe she would hold off another day.
I went to bed early sending Drake a message about my drive in and how much fun I had with my mom so far. I went to sleep waiting for him to text back. Waking up late the next afternoon with my phone around my neck. I read his reply and a few others he already sent today.
I sent him a reply with my activities for the day then jumped out of bed getting ready to go. I put on a summer dress and gold gladiator sandals that stopped below my knee. I put on some mascara and left my hair with its natural wave. I left my house to meet my mom at the bakery with half an hour to spare.
Shawn was out front waiting as I walked up to the local sweet shop. Mom wasn't long behind me. All three of us stuffing our mouths with all the different flavors and sweets sitting out for us to try. Coming to an agreement with the chocolate fudge cake, even taking some home with us.
For the next 3 days Mom was appointment free. Working a full shift each day, but not leaving me without something to do. A list of about 30 people with their numbers I needed to call and get address for. Some were relatives of Shawn, and some were supposed members of my family I hadn't heard about in years.
Friday morning Mom and I sat in Shawn's newer model truck traveling to the first of three venue appointments for the day. Mom stopped for coffee and donuts before leaving town. Neither of us morning people only worrying about our breakfast and the low hum of the radio.
Our first stop was at The Boar's Head Inn outside of Charlottesville. The luxurious hotel and picturesque grounds were filled with southern charm. But, the space was a little much for the private affair Mom wanted. We finished the tour about an hour later then got back on the road. Headed to the second appointment an hour and a half away.
Completely awake now after walking all around the vast property The Inn sat on Mom started right in with the questions. "Ready to tell me what's going on now? I gave you a few day at least." She smirked.
I bark out a sarcastic laugh. "Why thank ya kind Miss. I'm ever so grateful." I mock.
Mom laughs swatting me on the arm. "Smartass. Tell me what's got you in such a fuss about Drake."
I felt sick with nerves talking about this with my mom. Most girls have that first talk about boys with their mom while they are in junior high school, but not me. I swallow trying to clear the acid at the back of my throat before speaking.
"I'm so confused Mom. This was suppose to be fun and carefree. Something temporary, actually. But over he last few months I've developed feelings for him. Deep feelings that's getting harder for me to hide, and it doesn't help with the things he says to me. I try and brush them off, but a part of me can't help but hope." I blink rapidly trying to stop the tears clouding my eyes from falling.
Mom takes one of her hands from the wheel grabbing mine and squeezing. "Of course you love him, Baby. I love him without knowing him, because of how he treats you. I love how happy you are when you talk to me, and it's because of him. What's got you confused?"
"This thing between us isn't suppose to last long. At least that's what he said at the beginning. Now he tells me he won't ever let me go. I'm His from now until the end of time. But, he will have to do the exact opposite of that in wee..the future." I catch myself just in time. That particular part of our agreement can stay quiet for now. One thing at a time with Mom.
Mom let's put a deep belly laugh stopping moments later with a knowing smile on her face. "Sounds like Drakes changed his mind to me. Question is, is that what you want?"
I'm lost in my thoughts the rest of the way after that. Going over every possible outcome if her words were true. What would happen between Drake and I then? I came out of my jumbled thoughts as Mom pulled up outside of our second stop. The Historic George Mason's Gunston Hall outside of Mason Neck Virginia.
The estate sat on a beautiful 550 acres that had the Potomac River running along its edge. There were two separate rooms where the ceremony could be held, and a beautiful courtyard at the side of The Inn for the reception. The place was amazing but completely wrong for them.
We got on the road a little after 2 that afternoon for the last hour and a half of our journey. I wasted a little time eating some chips I got at the store while Mom got gas before we left the town. Mom was humming along to the radio when I finally decided to speak.
"Let's say there might be some truth to your words, don't you think it's too soon? I'm still in college and several years younger than him. You don't think he will get bored after a while? Then how will I move on then?"
Mom took a moment to think about her response. Hardly a wrinkle showing on Jenny Black's youthful face. "Answering your first question, no I don't think this is too soon. Possibly if it were someone else but you it might be, but I know you and how you think through everything. The second question, are you for real? From what you tell me that man is as crazy about you as you are about him. Let me give you a piece of advice when a man is that consumed by someone they don't lose focus easily."
"If you say so." I tell her giving her a shrug turning to look out the window.
My reached over grabbing my hand in hers getting my attention begrudgingly. "Do you love him?" She came straight out and asked.
I can't lie to her to save my life, so I just shake my head yes and look back out the window. She squeezes my hand again getting my attention. "Then I want you to think about this, and come back to me in a few days with your answer. What will your life be like if you let him go, and never tell him you love him?"
I gasp my jaw hitting the floor. I want to protest, but Mom stops me. "Think it over, and I'll give you my final thoughts on the subject when I meet him." I do just that for the rest of the ride.
Our final stop was right outside of Irvington at The Tides Inn. As soon as Mom pulled into the parking lot we both knew this was the one. They had a small chapel inside and a reception area on the beach. You could also have your wedding there if you wanted. The venue was small and intimate, and all the employees were super nice.
Mom and I finish all the arrangements before getting back on the road home this time. It took us a little over two hours to make it back to our house. Shawn was already there waiting with dinner on the table for us.
Saturday morning I wake up a little after 9 in the morning. I sent Drake a teasing collage of my outfit for the day promising more this afternoon after helping Mom. This time Shawn drives us to the florist where Mom and I spent the morning picking flowers, and colors for decorations.
We leave Shawn in a corner while Mom, myself, and the florist discuss different arrangements and styles. Only bothering him to choose a boutonniere. Not hard since Mom vetoes it down to three.
Shawn takes us to a late lunch afterward. Picking a quiet little place on the outskirts of town. Before we finish he ask my permission to steal my Mom for the rest of the weekend. I laugh as I agree, and can't stop smiling as I wave them bye outside the house 30 minutes later.
Alone in the house for the rest of the night by myself I prepare a little video for Drake. Then sent it in 20 second intervals at a time. Once he gets the entire striptease my phone starts blowing up with an incoming FaceTime call from him.
Drake and I spent the rest of the night, and well into the morning, talking on the phone. I tell him everything about the venues Mom and I looked at, and all the things we already decided on. I never hung up that night falling asleep looking into my phone. Continuing right where we left off as soon as I wake up Sunday afternoon.
Mom and Shawn make it back to the house late that night. Both trying to not make a sound as they pass by my door on the way to Moms. Both were gone when I finally woke up the next morning. Not before leaving me with my own job for the week. 30 invitations to be hand addressed and sealed for pickup on Thursday.
Finally when Friday came around I was super excited for what was going on later. Mom and I were going dress shopping. Driving an hour to the city, and the best bridal shop in the state.
The saleswomen pulling out all the stops treating Mom and I like we are celebrates, instead of the regular people we are. They help mom try on 4 different style dresses. On the fifth everyone declaring its 'The One'. It was beautiful with sparkles along the body-hugging fabric and a small train.
Once my turn came around Mom made me try on almost every dress in my size in the store. Luckily the saleswoman noticing how much I love this purple sparkly dress. It has a full skirt that stops mid-thigh and extra tool. The ladies helping my decide this one all on her own.
I drive us back home after we finished shopping. Mom having one to many glasses of champagne for her to drive. We laugh and joke the entire way back. Singing along to the radio badly at the top of our lungs, and dancing.
Shawn isn't there when I pull up. Mom then has the bright idea to have a girls night, and continue drinking. I it would help me a lot being able to blow off some steam, so I reluctantly agree. Going inside and changing into my pajamas then meeting mom on the couch with several bottles of wine.
By the time the sun sat bottles litter the floor around the coffee table. Where a bottle of Moms hidden bourbon and two shot glasses sit. Mom and I three sheets to the wind, way past the time we should have called it quits.
We are both laughing at a story Mom told about something that happened in the past when I stop dead, and look toward her. Her words from a few days ago on a loop constantly floating through my head. My genius, thinking this would be the perfect time to enlighten Mom about a few things.
I blurt out my thoughts regretting it immediately. "Want me to tell you why I can't tell Drake I love him, and why he is going to let me go in the end? I only agreed to be his sex slave for half a year, and there is less than two months left!" I tell her smugly.
I sober up instantly as Mom gasp loudly understanding what I said. Every drop of alcohol in my system choosing that particular moment to demand an exit.
