It was the final day and the official audition. It was just James and Dan. Its already been announced that Seth will be playing Jared Klienmen. so he's out of the picture.

"Ready?" Phil asks, walking into their room, dan was dressed and ready to go.

"Yep" dan breathes shakily.

"you'll do great, I saw you do your performance yesterday and it was absolutely fantastic" Phil says, kissing dans cheek softly. dan smiles softly back. Phil won't be attending today unfortunately he has a meeting with youtube so he's leaving soon was well.

"Ill see you later then. I love you" dan smiles, pressing a proper kiss on phils lips.

"I love you too" Phil replies. Dan grabs his bag and leaves, heading down to the lobby, where he sees James sat in an arm chair with his arms crossed.

"Hey James" dan says, sitting in front of him on the chair opposite him. he's decided the least he can do is be friends with him as he's literally going to be working with him either as Connor or an understudy.

"are you here to tell me our giving up or are you going to fail trying?" he asks, scoffing, not looking at dan directly.

"I just wanted to say... good luck." dan says, holding his hand out to him, James eyes dart to him, suddenly softening, then going back to his normal selfish self.

"I don't need luck" he says, taking dans hand and shaking it. once the car arrives they sit in the back together, waiting as they head to the music box theatre for the second last time. when they arrive the front of the theatre is packed, the show is just starting for the day. They get out and head to the door quickly, knocking on it and it opens quickly, letting them in and closing behind them. 

"Its mental out there isn't it?!" Will says, he's in his costume

"yeah it is!" Dan giggles.

"Well follow me boys! you'll be transformed into Evan Hansen during the show and once its over you'll be performing via broadcast to your company back home!" Will says, walking them up stairs to dressing rooms. as they walk to the end room they bump into a group of people in the hallway 

"Hey Will! Oh are these the Britts?!" Laura Dreyfuss squeals rushing over with Kristolyn Lloyd excitedly

"Sure are! Meet Dan and James!" Will introduces them, dan waves shyly and James doesn't really care.

"Its so amazing to meet you" dan smiles, they smile wide and hug him tightly

"Ahh! Will Roland why did you hog the auditioning all you yourselves!" Kristolyyn asks giggling

"Well I'm sorry, you'll get to see them preform later" Will laughs

"Oh hey did you want some Fruit snacks?" Laura asks, holding a bunch of packets of Teenage Ninja Turtle Fruit snacks

"oh god I haven't had these since I was in kindergarten!" dan says and she hands them both a couple packets

"If you want more I have like 18 boxes of them in every room" Laura laughs

"We basically live off them" Kristolyn laughs

"You guys and your addiction. You need help" Will laughs.

"DEAR EVAN HANSEN COMPANY PLEASE HEAD TO STAGE, THIS IS YOUR 2 MINUTE CALL" an intercom goes off,

"Oh we better go! It was great meeting you!" Laura smiles, as they start heading to stage

"thank you for the fruit snacks!" dan replies

"No problem!" Laura shouts back. Will takes them into a spare dressing room, it has the costumes designated for their song on racks next to mirrors that have been labeled DANIEL HOWELL and JAMES CELINE 

"the makeup crew will be in here soon, an other xbox is in here if you want to play and ill see you guys soon!" Will waves, closing he door behind them. dan sits down at his mirror, looking at the outfit. its a dark grey jacket with a Plaid dark blue shirt and dark pants. not the iconic, but still.

"Such a childish bunch of amateurs." James spits, throwing the fruit snack on his table.

"There so good though" dan says, opening up a packet and pouring them into his mouth, laying back in the swivel chair and eating them happily.

"Are you serious?" James gets annoyed and puts some headphones in, sitting in his chair. dan pulls his phone from his pocket and decides to take a photo of him in the mirror and sends it to phil

Dan: I feel special

Phil: You are, my Special flower boy  :)

dan smiles. suddenly the door opens and 2 women walk in with some bags.

"Hello Boys! we are going to be giving you your casts today" one of them says cheerfully, making her way over to dan and placing the bags next to him and the other lady goes to James, dan quickly finishes the fruit chews and says hello

"I see Laura has given you her fruit snacks already" she laughs, grabbing another chair and sitting next to him, pulling out plaster sheets and some plaster paste for the cast

"they're soo good though" dan giggles

"exactly, thats why we are all addicted to them here" she laughs. she starts straight away, applying more and more sheets just like a normal cast. but a thiner one. she smoothes it out with the plaster paste and drys it with a hairdryer till its set completely, she knocks on it once its done and dan laughs

"All good?" dan asks she giggles

"Definitely" she replies. once their done, the ladies leave saying goodbye and dan looks at himself in the mirror with his cast.

"I can't believe I said I wanted one of these off so badly and now I've got one back on again" dan giggles, 

"too bad you won't have to deal with having it put on every day" James says bluntly, obviously referring to dan becoming an understudy.

"right right" dan mumbles. he grabs his outfit form the hanger and starts getting changed into it quickly, looking again and seeing him look even more like Evan. once its the end of act one they hear people retuning to their room and their door opens again, Will, Mike and Ben walk in looking at them, 

"Look at you guys! you look great!" ben smiles, looking at their outfits, 

"thank you I love this outfit even if its not the iconic one" dan says, pointing to the Evan outfit ben is wearing. they laugh.

"OH! I get to sign your cast now! ill be doing yours when you perform James" mike says, pukking out the sharpie from his back pocket, dan holds his cast out and he signs it with CONNOR.

"there you go!" mike smiles, right after they're being called back to stage.

"we'll see you guys in a bit!" ben smiles

"good luck!" dan smiles as they leave. he puts his headphones on and listens to his music and writes in his journal. well, draws in his journal... he draws some detailed flowers and hands, its a coping mechanism and before he knows it they're back again out of costume. dan must have heard the show end over his music.

"You guys ready?"Mike asks, dan takes his headphones off and nods

"Come with us!" Ben smiles, Both James and Dan stand up and follow them down to the stage. they meet the sound checkers, who give them some basic hands free microphones and packs, putting it on them and checking the sound. it seems good. dan plays with his sleeves as he gets more and more nervous. 

"This must be Daniel" a grown up voice comes from behind him, dan turns around and it met with the familiar faces of the Murphys. Jennifer, Michael And Laura.

"Y-yes! hello!" dan says, he's suddenly hugged by all of them. 

"Welcome to broadway!" Jennifer says cheerfully, dan smiles

"Thank you so much" dan replies happily.

"Enjoy your Fruit snacks?" Laura asks, dan laughs

"very much thank you" they laugh. 

the rest of the cast that isn't performing is seated in the crowd with the cameras, 

"Alright everybody Welcome to the FINAL UK Dear Evan Hansen Auditions!" Ben says From the middle of the stage, everyone cheers loudly.

"Please give a mighty warm welcome for Contestant number one! James Celine!" ben says running off, James walks on proudly whilst people clap. when the music starts dan expects him to turn into character but he doesn't.. he's not acting how Evan should be.. he's way too confident, acting powerful, and it looks so wrong. as the performance continues, his singing sounds off, not right, it sounds super off key and messy. once its over the claps aren't as loud as before..

"And now, Straight from London city.. Its Mr. Daniel Howell!" ben announces, dans anxiety kicks in but as soon as he walks out to the loud cheering, the support he feels better. and even more when he notices Phil sat with the group cheering him on. They set up the scene quickly and the set changes.

"E-evan what are you Saying?" Laura asks sat down at the table with the rest. the music starts. 

this is it dan. lets do it.

"I never meant to make it such a mess" dan starts

"but the emails! you showed us the emails?!" Jennifer asks shocked

"I never thought it would go this far..

so I just stand here, sorry. searching for something to say,

"E-evan you l-lied the whole time?" Laura asks,

"I guess I thought I could be part of this

Step into the sun" Dan sings perfectly, Tears rolling down his face but it didn't effect him at all. everyone stands up clapping as loud as they can, cheering and whistling. dan smiles, trying to wipe away his tears but they keep flowing out of his eyes. Phil stands up and walks to the front of the stage, dan quickly rushing over to him and hugging him tightly, everyone is still clapping and cheering for him.

"I told you" Phil whispers, dan sniffles and laughs,

"Honey and that was your first time singing by yourself?" Rachel Bay jones asks, dan nods

"Yes it was. I've only been background character once" dan replies, she hugs him too

"You did so well, so well!" she says, dan smiles

"thank you" dan replies happily. he notices that James has disappeared, he was on the side of the stage. maybe he returned to the dressing room

"Could we do Good For You with dan?!" Lauren asks, Everyone starts chattering and agreeing.

"Do you want to honey?" Rachel asks, dan smiles and nods. everyone cheering again. Rachel, Kristolyn, Will and Dan get up on the stage and get ready for it.
