300 reads in a week!! Thank you so much x This chapter will be better than the last one I promise
Connor was shaken awake by Zoe the morning after his panic attack.
"Why aren't you dressed? We're late." She said, grabbing a hoodie and throwing it at him. He threw on random clothes, grabbed his bag and phone and ran.
Zoe was driving, because Connor wasn't allowed the car on weekdays. He had the braid from last night left in. He had one headphone in, listening half to Zoe and half to his songs. He noticed a notification from Instagram. Message from Treeboypublic
He pressed on it excitedly, only to discover he was out of data. His parents weren't paying for any extra because he always went over his bill. He grumbled in frustration and put his phone away, ready to get out of the car.
Maths was more boring than usual, considering he couldnt stop thinking about Evan. He shouldn't like this guy, especially when he ignored him all night. But he had to wonder, what did that message say? They had science together after lunch, he might ask then.
Connor tried to think about something, anything, other than Evan. He failed miserably. Evan was on the other side of the room in english, doing his work. Connor couldn't do anything but stare, and draw.
"Gawking are we Connor?" Ms Flemming asked impatiently. His eyes snapped to the teacher in front of him, and everyone focused on him. He stole a glance at Evan and made eye contact with the teacher.
"Nothing to gawk at miss."
She went back to teaching and Connor glanced over at Evan, and caught him quickly looking away. Connor smiled to himself, and went back to sketching and staring.
Lunch was uneventful. He didnt have Evan to stare at, because for some reason he wasn't in his usual spot. Connor ate in silence and went and sat out the front of his science room, waiting for lunch to end. He was glad it was a Friday, meaning they only had one period after lunch.
When the teacher arrived and everyone sat down in their seats, Connor was nervous. He hadn't spoken to Evan at all yet today, and after the night before he didnt know how to feel. Evan had ignored him, and it sent Connor into a shitty panic attack, but he responded eventually, which counts for something.
Evan showed up to class two minutes late, apologizing to the teacher, looking flustered and upset. He sat at his spot next to Connor, got his book out, and prepared for the lesson.
Evan wasn't taking down as many notes as usual, and it looked like he was having trouble focusing. Connor wrote on his own book and pushed it over so Evan would read it.
U OK?
Evan stared at it for a second before mumbling "I'm f-fine." He went back to work without looking at Connor.
Connor put his hand on the small of the other boys back, but Evan shook him off. Connor was shocked. He didn't lash out like he usually would, he just sad there, wondering what he'd done wrong.
After a whole lesson of sitting in silence, about 5 minutes before the end of the day, Evan hesitantly wrote a note on Connors book.
I waited for you.
Connor was dumbfounded. What does that even mean?
?
He wrote back
At lunch. I waited for you to come but you didn't.
Idk what ur talking about
Evan gripped his pen in frustration. He turned to Connor and whispered "I m-messaged you. I s-s-said we sh-should talk about s-st-stuff. You were m-meant to come to the oval at l-lunch."
Evans message. Thats where he was at lunch. "I didn't get it. I'm sorry."
Evans face was a mix of relief and disappointment.
"Can we hang out after school? Can we talk?" Connor asked with a smile. "Zoe has band practice and my parents are out. You could come over."
Evan looked at him, wide eyed. "Um.. Yeah. I'd l-like that."
The class began to pack up and the boys smiled to themselves, unaware of the others mutual excitement.
