11; White Roses.

"YOUR VITALS looks good, and your body is responding to the surgery well," Aisha announced, closing the chart in her hand as she rose her hand to look at the patient that's currently sitting on the bed, a pillow supporting his back. "At this rate, you'll be discharged by the end of the week in shaa Allah"

"Sank you, Dakta! Sank you bery motch(Thank you, Doctor! Thank you very much)" A grin instantly made its way on the man's face, as he turned around to face the woman beside him-his wife. The woman too, like him, has the same grin plastered on her face but that was the extent to which they both showed. There were no hand holding, or hugs like other couples do. Aisha wasn't one to judge, but she had seen enough of people like them that she would classify them as typical Nigerians.

You'll hardly see typical Nigerians show any affection whatsoever. And yet, they'll have fifteen children.

The thought had Aisha chuckling lightly, as she offered them a cut nod and turned around and walked out of the ward, already done checking on her patients. She released a small sigh, stretching her arms slightly as she ventured off to the emergency to speak to the nurse in charge before heading back to her office. She honestly couldn't wait for the weekend to come, because she was already exhausted and its only Thursday.

In other hospitals, residents don't really get days off except for a very important reason. However, HGH gives its residents the weekends off. It works on shifts though. It's not all of them that gets the weekend off. They tend to rotate and luckily for Aisha and Jannah, they are fortunate enough to be amongst those getting the weekend off.

Aisha is simply exhausted, for working in a hospital isn't exactly something that's easy to handle. As for Jannah, she's sure that aside from the bulky nature of their work, she would want to get some time alone too considering the breakup she had the day before.

Speaking of which, the girl hasn't showed up for work yet, and her shift started hours ago. Aisha had to take the girl's work too, so as to not get in trouble which is why the work is weighing her down. She could only hope Jannah would show up soon. She tried to call her phone, but she wasn't picking up.

She would've been worried, if not that she knew Jannah as the type that keeps her phone in silent mode all the time. So, you can drop fifty missed calls and as long as the phone's not in her hand, she wouldn't know.

"Dr. Aisha"

Aisha blinked, swiveling her head around to look at the nurse that called her. She had been absentmindedly walking around that she didn't even realize she had reached the emergency center. "Na'am"

"Someone left this off for you" The nurse extended her hands out, and only then did Aisha notice the beautiful bouquet of white roses in her hands.

Aisha's head tilted to the side slightly, a crease forming in between her brows as she hesitantly reached her hand out to collect it, eyes still staring at it warily. "For me?" She repeated, briefly looking up to stare at the short nurse.

The woman nodded, a small smile etched on her face. "Yes. The delivery man said it was for Doctor Aisha Nasir Al-Sayed, so..."

Aisha's brows furrowed, her lips slanting down into a deep frown. She parted her lips to ask the woman if she's sure, but she realized how stupid it would sound unless there's another Aisha Nasir Al-Sayed in the hospital. Besides, her words got stuck in her throat when she noticed the red card perched nicely amidst the roses. It stood out stark against the white roses, which made it impossible to not spot. If she wasn't so caught up in wondering whether it's actually for her, she would've noticed it. She extended her hard to remove it, eyes instantly taking her initials ASA written on the cover. "Alright" She looked up, offering the nurse a small smile, "Thank you"

"You're welcome" The nurse walked away, after offering her a curt nod leaving her alone.

Aisha turned the card around, wanting to see if there's anything written there. And her thoughts turned out correct, for written on blood red card, in white ink and slightly messy cursive handwritten note, is;

'To my beautiful rose'.

And that was it.

Her throat felt dry, a distant ringing filling her ears. She didn't have to strain the wheels in her head to have an inkling on who it could be. But at the same time, she thought it's impossible for her thought to be correct.

No. No way.

She rose her head up, looking around as if she would spot anyone that would seem out of place. The blood rushing in her veins and the breathing that was slightly becoming difficult made everything seem as if its spinning. She wasn't sure if anyone could see the change in her demeanor, but it seemed not for they were all going about, doing their thing normally.

There was no one that stood out of place. Perhaps, in her head, she did but that was the least of her concerns.

Everything-the place, despite how big it is, felt as though it's closing on her, and the thought alone only made the distant ringing become clearer, and louder.

She staggered slightly, somehow managing to steady herself as she blew out a shaky breath.

"Wow, you have a suitor and you haven't informed me?"

That voice, brought comfort to her without even realizing it. It took only a couple of seconds for her to turn around and face him, just as everything steadied back to normal for her. The look on his face showed as though her worries were all in her head. He doesn't seem to notice her panicked state for is he did, he would've showed it knowing him well. "Abdallah..." She called out, her voice a bit shaky as her hand that held the card crushed it, making it nothing but a crumbled piece that shouldn't mean a thing to her-a piece that should've been out of her life long ago.

His eyes narrowed slightly, the slight quirk in his lips being the only thing that gave his always stern resolve. "What? Are you guilty because I've caught you red handed?" He asked, reaching where she stood. He still hadn't made a move to smile or anything, but she could tell he's amused.

She knows him too well to know how he works. He wasn't the one to show emotions, even though he did last night but she knew he only put up with it because one of them was in pain.

He never did well with people in that kind of pain.

Physical pain? He can handle it since he's a doctor. Emotional one? That seems to be his weak point.

Realizing he still hasn't caught on to her off demeanor, she was quick to plaster a fake smile on her face. "What are you talking about?" She managed to make her voice come out normal, despite her heart thudding behind her ribcage. "I don't even know who sent these" She didn't spare the roses another glance, despite it still being in her arms.

He hummed, staring at her expression for a while to see whether she's lying or not. Eventually, he caved in. "Well, you will find out soon because whoever this suitor of yours is, he will show up at one point or another" He stated, not knowing what his words meant to her. "And when he does, make sure to let me know because he can't try to take my sister that easily" He stated seriously, making her chuckle despite the whirlwind of emotions she's feeling.

"Of course" She nodded, her words holding a meaning beyond that which he caught up on. Her gaze then moved to his hand, which held a paper bag that's from his restaurant. She had gotten enough of them to know without even seeing the logo. "Is that for me?" She teased, a wide grin masking her features.

She truly is good at this whole hiding emotions thing.

He chuckled, taking her made up enthusiasm as a real one. "It's for you, and that friend of yours"

Her brows drew in, "I'll ask you the same questions I asked her" She then narrowed her eyes playfully. "When did you and Jannah become friends?" She simply couldn't help it. The two do not get along-not because they fight all the time or anything of that sort, but because they just don't get have the attitude.

Jannah is more outgoing, and blithesome. Abdallah on the other hand can be considered brooding, and sombre to most people, except Aisha who knows he isn't like that.

Jannah believes he lacks that joyful spirit in him, so she doesn't really get along with him unless he brings food. On that note, she considers him a great friend. In Abdallah's case, he considers her as too hyper. She's too cheerful in his case, which was why he knew the breakup affected her the day before considering she wasn't being her usual self.

That was why he even bothered to entertain her. As for Sadiq, he just did what he had to do.

"Since she got her heart broken by some guy who doesn't deserve her in the first place" He answered, not bothering to hide his distaste towards the said man. The thought alone made him wish he had done more harm to Sadiq, but he wasn't that wicked.

"I know right" Aisha narrowed her eyes, staring at nothing in particular. "I wish I could see that jerk so I could--"

"So you can what?" Abdallah interrupted, raising a brow at her. "Come on, we both know you're too nice to hurt anyone" And that's the fact. Aisha can talk when she wants to, but he doubts she would be able to do anything. She has always been the type to rather ignore people who get on her nerves, because to her, they aren't worth her time.

"Hey!" She exclaimed, offended that he's underestimating her. "I can do something to him"

He hummed, not really believing her but allowing her to have that. "Okay, whatever sails your boat" He offered her a small smile, extending the paper bag to her. "I have to go back to the restaurant, so I hope you enjoy this"

She offered him a small smile back, their small conversation taking her mind off her current problem for a while, even though she still held a reminder. "When have we not ever enjoy anything from you?"

"I know" He bragged, taking a step away as he offered her a wave before he turned around and walked away.

The moment he was out of sight, her smile fell as she moved the rose to her other hand that held the paper bag, making a quick move to the trash can to dump the crumpled paper. She would've thrown the roses there too, but she wasn't in the mood to deal with people's looks and whatnot. So, she took it with her upstairs where she met a cleaner there, giving it to the woman as a gift.

The woman, unware of what the roses meant to the doctor took it with a wide smile etched on her face as she trailed off, saying about having something to decorate the janitor's closet with.

Aisha then made her way to her office, where she dropped the paper bag on Jannah's table, knowing the girl will see it when she comes. If she will come that is. She pushed the thought aside though, picking up an ice cream tub from the bag as she made her way back to her table, settling on her chair and placing the tub on the table before peeling the lid off.

It has already to started to melt, and knowing that her friend's one is in a similar condition, she stood up and picked it up, removing it from the paper bag and placing it in the small refrigerator they have before going back to her own.

While taking the ice cream, she quickly typed something on her computer, before a CABG surgery came up. She leaned back slightly, taking the ice cream as she watched the surgery. Her mind wasn't there though, even though her sole intention from the beginning was to take her mind off it.

Frustration ate her up, making her make a quick move to stop the video as she pushed the ice cream tub away from her. Her eyes were slightly widened, as she fisted her hand, caressing it with her cold fingers as the wheels in her head turn.

The sole question running being;

Is her past catching up to her?
