6. |Equality or Justice?|

Equality

This term is also very misunderstood by overall modern civilization, not only Islamically.

Equality is a strictly anthropological concept that defines the condition of the individual or of the community to be considered in the same way in terms of rights.

Only after the World War II women, given the drastic decline of the population, especially men who fell in war, obtained suffrage. An innate desire is the sense to "mean" something for the community and the government itself. Women worked hard and fought for their rights.
Getting the privilege of female suffrage was not easy: in Europe the Suffragette movement was founded by the English philosopher and writer Mary Wollstonecraft, a movement of women who were protesting in big masses to obtain suffrage, that is, the right to vote whom they wanted to be seen in political charges. This event of the history of mankind does not only demonstrate the natural tendency of the individual to be recognized as equal, similar and accepted, but also shows that equality, even before being a social concept, is an anthropological inclination. Islām is a religion revealed to mankind and, therefore, it does not deny this fact. Islam is a "natural" religion: a set of rules, a way of life that takes into consideration the intrinsic nature of humankind.

Going back to the debate of equality in Islām, it always tends to combine it with the concept of justice.

Are they not the same thing?

As has been said, they are two widely traded and misunderstood concepts. An example of equality would be that of a bank in which the owner, the employees, and others who are kept there for hygenic purposes work. Respecting the value of equality all three (3) types of workers within the premises should be paid the same amount, because all of them are human beings, every single one of them wake up in the morning willy-nilly, come to work and perform a specific work within the bank premises basing on their skills, but yet in terms of retribution they are not considered as equal; because many other parameters are taken into account such as the qualification of the respective worker, specific physical and cognitive skills and type of services provided. It is quite obvious that the aforementioned three type of workers have different qualifications, different skills and provide specific services each.

And it is here that justice comes forth being combined with the principle of equality and as a result all three (3) types of workers paid (Principle of Equality); the holder, however, keeps the highest sum in the pocket, a lower cypher goes in the balance of employees and another amount being even lesser than the latter goes to the cleaners (Principle of Justice).

Why? Simple, they cover different roles of different ranks, therefore their retribution has to be measured under the criteria of their service.
Hence, the allegory indicates that Islām considers not only the individual themselves when promulgating rules for them, but takes into consideration the context, their nature, their tendencies and any eventual probabilities etc.
That is, dear readers, Equality combining with Justice in perfect harmony.
