It's the 21st Century
We know that the Qur'an was revealed 1400 years ago in a society quite different to ours. And we know that some of the Qur'an is open to limited interpretation (by very learned scholars). But then you have some people who think we can intepret Islam completely different to how it was originally understood. You have views which go against everything the Prophet and sahabas said. So this poem is to hopefully put things into perspective and show how ridiculous these new views to fit into 'today's society' sound. Sorry if that sounds harsh.
Ahmad Ibn Hanbal was really cool,
But I learnt more from my Islamic school.
Like the sahabas before him, he says hijab is a requirement,
But I know that doesn’t fit into our environment.
Abu Hanifa was respectable and he knew a lot,
But I think I’ll give this new perspective a shot.
Like the Prophet, he said before marriage no relations,
But we are newer and more developed generations.
Imam Malik was amazing and had great knowledge,
But I have an A Level qualification from college.
Like the sahabas and prophets, he said no to free mixing,
But it’s the 21st century and old opinions need fixing.
Imam Shafi who is looked up to and is so often quoted,
But in my few years of learning, I’ve become more devoted.
Like the Prophet, he said that intoxicants are forbidden for us,
But a bit of alcohol and smoking isn’t that much of a fuss.
Arrogance and ignorance like this make our hearts diseased,
The desire to have only Allah’s creation pleased.
A danger so severe and so grave,
Forgetting our Lord and being society’s slave.
Acceptance from the ones astray we so badly crave.
But why?
Just,
Why?
