Chapter Fifteen
It felt like someone was zapping him with tremendous power. Tears were flowing from his eyes. Christopher wrapped his arms around his knees. The pain begun to subside and a warmth was replacing the same paths that the stabs had taken over him earlier.
A mesmerizing glow was radiating out of his body. Leo and Elijah were watching him from a short distance confused and shocked with the sight in front of them. They did not know what was happening. They did not know how to help their friend. They were scared and awed at the same time. They were oblivious to the fact that other cloudpeople were rushing towards them and a crowd had begun to form.
Christopher could now hear the commotion around him but did not get up from the ground. He was afraid that if he moved the pain would start again so he slowly opened his eyes to his surroundings. He spotted his friends standing a few feet away from him. A crowd of faces was further back behind his friends at what he assumed they considered was a safe distance away from him. He thought that they were still afraid of him because he was the One.
"Chris?" They said in unison and he turned his head to face them.
"Mmm," was the only response Christopher was able to let out at the moment.
"How are you feeling?" Eli asked.
"Ok " he mumbled and he was actually not only feeling ok but much more than that. He felt a renewed spark in his body. It was as if he was in tune with every cell, every nerve, every muscle that made up his cloudbody. He did not feel tired or worn out anymore. The elements around him; earth, wind, fire, water; were more evident now as if he could reach out his hand and literally grab the particles that made up each one them. The magic that seeped through the walls and flowers of Silyn left a sweet caramel taste in his mouth.
Maister pushed out of the crowd and when he reached Christopher, he crouched down and peered over his body. He used his hands to inspect for any physical damage. Once Maister was satisfied, he ordered all three of them, Leo, Elijah and Christopher to report to his chambers at once. He turned around and went up to Joas and Iris who had just arrived and the three of them retreated to a corner away from curious ears and talked.
Leo, Elijah and Christopher were looking at each other as if expecting one of them to speak up. As if one of them had the answer to what happened. Leo and Elijah helped Christopher up to his feet and they all started following the path that would lead them to Maister's chambers.
"That was weird," Elijah said breaking the awkward silence between them.
"Yeah, weird even for Silyn standards," Leo put in.
"It felt like it too," Christopher added.
"Chris, one moment you were on the ground screaming as if your body was being pulled apart."
"I was screaming?" Christopher cut Elijah as he spoke.
"Yes," Leo said nodding his head.
"And the next moment light was coming out of your whole body," Elijah finished.
"I thought you were going to explode," Leo said.
"Me too," Elijah agreed.
Christopher was trying to process the information his friends just told him but he still could not understand what had happened.
"All I know is that I walking past the tree and pain took over me, once the pain spread to all of my body then a warm, cosy sensation started to cover the pain," he offered to his friends in hopes that they would shed some light on the situation.
"Never seen anything like this," Leo said.
"Maybe it has something to do with the fact that you are the one?" Elijah added as they reached the door outside Maister's chamber.
Christopher placed his arms on his friends halting them from knocking on the door. "Do you know if the other One had a similar experience?" He asked.
"No," they said together.
A sigh of disappointment escaped Christopher as he turned around and knocked on the door that may give them the answer they were trying to piece together.
"Chris?" They both said with high pitched voices.
"Yes," he replied with alarm.
"Your wings..." Leo pointed.
"What about my..." Christopher stopped talking as he laid eyes on his wings. They were no longer white as was everyone else's wings in Silyn, his wings were now a different colour, they were crimson red. He absentmindedly reached out and touched his wings. "They are red," he said in a low voice and his friends nodded in agreement. Looking at their expressions, he understood that this development was beyond mystifying.
They entered the grand room and saw that all three pillars of Silyn, Maister, the Queen and Joas, were there waiting for them.
