[ COMING SOON — not tomorrow, swear on my life, you guys ]
FIFTEEN. That was how old Adeline Hammond was when her father leased an island in Costa Rica and moved them there permanently. Adeline's older sister was already married with two children by the time that John planned the great dinosaur park on Isla Nublar, meaning he only took his youngest with him — sure, he could've left her at home with a nanny and never saw her, but that was something neither wanted.
Adeline had grown up without a single want in the world, everything being handed to her by her doting father, who hadn't expected to have such a young daughter, as their first was in her late teens and nearly twenties when she was born. The news had come as quite a shock to John and his late wife, but he'd never regret the happy surprise that was Adeline.
So, when Adeline begged to move to Isla Nublar with him, he could hardly tell her no. John arranged for a tutor to live on the island with them so that she could finish out high school. And afterward, when she declared she was interested in veterinary science, he made arrangements for some of the best professors in the world to come to the island as well.
Of course, the veterinarians and paleontologists that'd signed lengthy NDA waivers could only teach her so much about the physiology of living dinosaurs. Because of course, she couldn't be interested in healing dogs and cats. No, Adeline was going to be the first veterinarian for dinosaurs, and no one would stop her.
There were veterinarians and doctors on the island, of course, but they were learning as they were going, treating the scientific miracles like they were exotic animals. They let Adeline shadow them each day, taking notes and giving her opinion whenever necessary. She'd seen a Brachiosaur with a sinus infection and a Dilophosaurus with a broken ankle, something no other veterinarian student could boast about at any traditional university in the world.
It was safe to say her life was quite different from most twenty-year-olds, even those with vastly wealthy fathers. She'd been living an exotic life for the last five years, following no rules but her own as she rode on the back of a Triceratops at sixteen and walked alongside Stegosaurs nearly every day, her favorite of the dinosaurs on the island.
Adeline was rash and impulsive, and saw each moment of her life through rose-tinted glasses given how removed from society she was. All that mattered to her were dinosaurs and her freedom as she roamed the island each day without a care in the world.
Unfortunately, to someone as prim and proper as her father, Adeline was far too chaotic, but he'd never reprimand her. And then John just had to go and make the mistake of introducing a chaotician to that pure chaos.
