A guard stood in the door and looked at them, immediately pointing his bow at Aragorn.
Legolas quickly stood in front of his friend, wanting to protect him
"Don't. He's my friend and he's not trying to hurt me."
The guard nodded and apologised, quickly leaving the room. Legolas closed his eyes and sighed, wanting to leave too.
But Aragorn softly grabbed Legolas' wrist.
"Please Legolas.. stay"
The elf looked at him, having a sad expression plastered on his face.
"I'm so sorry Aragorn.."
he said, before freeing himself from the brown haired who just watched the elf leaving the room. He knew he had to give Legolas time..but what if maybe one day it's too late?
And Aragorn couldn't even tell because Legolas was a master at hiding his emotions.
He sighed and ran his fingers through his hair.
Legolas feet lead him to a small but beautiful garden where he often was as a kid. He smiled softly and sat down on a spot where no flowers grew. The prince let his gaze run over the place.
But one flower drew his attention, like it always did, to it.
His eyes widened a bit and he bit his lip.
And there it stood.
A beautiful peony.
Its slightly silver colour burned like hot metal on Legolas skin. He stared at the flower, unable to look away.
Valar he loved that flower.
He wanted it all to himself, he wanted to be able to adore it everyday of his live.
He needed it or he would die.
Legolas of course realised that that thoughts weren't about the flower. He knew what it was about. But he wouldn't dare to even think about it. The elf sighed and forced himself to look away.
No. He could never have that flower.
But if he couldn't have that one, could he ever have another one?
A few days passed. Legolas and Aragorn had to say their goodbyes to Gimli and didn't really talk to each other.
Aragorn sat in his room and thought about leaving, since Legolas was avoiding him and showed clear signs that he didn't want to talk to him, as someone knocked on his door.
"Come in"
Legolas stepped in, having his eyes locked down to the floor.
Aragorn smiled surprised, but immediately dropped it when he saw the elf's sad face.
He didn't want to push Legolas and tried to say nothing about it.
"Do you want to go for a walk?"
Legolas asked.
Aragorn nodded and stood up from his bed, following the prince out of the room.
They walked through the woods, where it was a bit safer, since Legolas couldn't defend himself much with his broken arm.
They walked in silence for a while but it didn't bother them. They even enjoyed it.
Eventually the silence was broken from Aragorn.
"Do you want to stay here overnight?"
"Yes"
After 3 hours, they set up a little camp. Aragorn lit a fire and they sat down besides it.
"Legolas"
"Hm?"
"What's wrong mellon nín (my friend)?"
Legolas sighed.
"I think i fell for someone."
He finally confessed. Aragorn smiled exited.
"But?"
"But i'm pretty sure the person doesn't love me back"
Legolas stared at the flame in front of him.
"Who is the person? Maybe i could talk to her and-"
"No."
Legolas interrupted him and sighed.
"It's hopeless. My father wouldn't accept it, the person isn't an elf."
"Oh..i'm so sorry Legolas.."
Legolas just nodded and continued to look at the fire.
Aragorn wanted to comfort his friend, but didn't really know how.
So he just pulled Legolas into a hug.
Legolas was a bit shocked at first, but then leaned in Aragorns arms. He felt save.
But then, he suddenly had the urge to kiss Aragorn. To slam his lips on the others.
To be connected.
Legolas immediately detached from Aragorn and stood up.
He felt his heart ache and the constant pain in his chest grew worse.
Aragorn followed him and lay his hand on his friend's shoulder.
"Are you okay? Is your arm hurting?"
Legolas nodded, having tears covering his sight.
Aragorn felt horrible, knowing that he wasn't able to help the elf. Big tears rolled down Legolas' face. Aragorn wiped them off, softly running his hand through Legolas' hair.
Legolas hid his face in his hands, being really embarrassed for crying in front of Aragorn.
"I'm sorry.."
He mumbled, turning away a bit.
"Don't apologise Legolas. It's okay. You can't help your feelings.."
if Aragorn would say the same things if Legolas confessed his love to him?
Legolas felt weak and he hated it.
After a few minutes what felt like decades to Legolas, they finally lay down. Aragorn immediately drifted off to sleep, leaving Legolas all to his own.
The elf watched his friend silently.
He was beautiful.
His hair didn't look like it but it was really soft. His lips looked so beautiful, like a pillow where Legolas wanted to rest his own.
Now, Legolas was tired and couldn't think straight. He never could when Aragorn was in presence. The prince slowly walked towards his friend and sat down besides him. His hand reached out for Aragorns cheek and stroked it softly. Legolas bend down a bit, his lips only a few millimetres away from the others.
He closed the gap and their lips touched.
Legolas' eyes fluttered shut and he just kneeled there, kissing his best friend.
He slowly backed away, making sure that Aragorn was still asleep.
The prince was a bit sad that he really was, but it was for the better, he knew that.
