"I'm sorry."

"Not now." Jamie leans forward while looking into the rereview mirror, wanting to ensure that a certain couple isn't chasing after them. The shift between the moment Wolf laid eyes on his parents to when he let their presence since in was startling. When it seems they aren't being followed, Jamie tosses her gun into the cubbyhole and adjusts her seat since it's Wolf's car and he sits different to her---all the while keeping her hand on the wheel.

"Are you okay?" She asks finally when they've been driving for a while.

"I don't know." He answers honestly and Jamie grabs hold of his hand, bringing it up to her lips and kissing the back of it.

"I'll protect you."

Wolf chuckles and Jamie laughs too, turning on the blinkers and pulling over on the side of the road and closing her window before clicking out the key and turning in her seat to look at him, a determined look on her face. "I'm serious. I'll be the knight and you'll be my distressed dude."

Smiling, Wolf rests his cheek in his palm, the way Jamie was looking at him, matched with her words was igniting something so deep inside of him that he's never felt before and he has to look down as the grin spreads wide.

"What?" Jamie asks, confused.

"You know I love you, right?"

All the air rushes out of the Davenport daughter as her lips part in surprise. The way he said the words so casually as though it was the most obvious thing in the world sent her into near shock. His tone so sure as though this was just another day of the masked male professing his undying love to her when in reality...it's not only the first time the directed words leave his lips but the first time she surely knew what to respond, knowing how right it sounded. "Good," She finally says and he looks at her intently, searching her gaze for her next words as her eyes turn with so many thoughts, he can't seem to decipher. "I love you too."

Pressing the button on the car system that tints the windows, Wolf lower his mask and leans across the console, watching her lips get nearer before pressing his lips to hers.

"I need you to save me right now." He whispers against her lips, kissing them slowly and she nods, trailing her hand up his chest and to the back of his neck, massaging gently to let him know that she's right here. Sometimes when you find the person who holds your heart in their hands, you can't help but give them yours in return.

"Okay, love. All you needed to do was ask." Jamie pulls Wolf in for another kiss and smiles when his tongue swipes over her own once, before drawing away slowly, only to deepen the contact. Trust, along with content are poured into the kiss for what feels like forever before detaching fully and breathing heavy.

Settling back in their own seats, Wolf slides his hand over Jamie's leg and sits back, while Jamie pushes the gear into drive and lowers her foot over the gas as she slowly joins the main road again, her lips tightly closed as she tries to mask her smile.

Watching Jamie out of the corner of his gaze, Wolf knows that not only has he met his match, but he's met the match.

~•Jamie•~

Walking into my mom's house with Wolf at my side, I'm surprised when the voices of my sisters drift towards us from the kitchen, the two of us still 'happy go lucky' from what happened in the car.

I'm glad he said it...I was dying to know that he was as serious as I am before falling way head over heels without the hope of getting caught but he was right there to fall with me. With all the obstacles he's jumped through just for me, I'd be concerned if he wasn't in love with me. I glance up him as he fixes his mask over his face, looking down at me from the corner of his eye and I bite my lip and grin.

He chuckles lowly then directs his hand to the small of my back as we go into the kitchen.

"Jamie!" My little sister Elly exclaims when she notices me and I smile and step forward to hug her.

"Hey baby." I greet, pulling away and giving our mom a hug as well, kissing her cheek and discreetly running a hand through my bedhead, but she still shoots me a knowing look.

"Honey." I hug Nial, then Rickson, before returning to Wolf's side as he speaks to my mother.

"Hi, sorry I'm late." The click clack of high heels echoes in a rush just before Crow enters and her foxy eyes darken at the sight of her brother as her steps falter ever so slightly. "I didn't know, he'd be here..."

"Yeah well, same." Wolf mutters, stepping back as Crow hugs mom, kissing her cheek as her gaze softens.

"Okay well, let's move out to the backyard and have breakfast?" Mom suggests and I tell her Wolf and I are heading upstairs to freshen up first. She nods, and I drag him upstairs with me, ignoring the curious looks and smiles of my sister.

.....

"A few things I wanted to speak to you all about." Mom picks up her mimosa, and takes a sip while we eat the breakfast she prepared for us. "But the most important, Jamie and Hitter are indeed a couple. What do you have to say for yourself, Sugar?"

I stop with my fork in my mouth, slowly dragging it out when all eyes turn to me and quickly forcing the food down with water. "Uhm..."

"Would you look at that, Sugar Bear is finally speechless. For ONCE in her precious life." Nia drawls and I cut my eyes to her.

"Do you wanna fight me?" I ask, picking up my glass of orange juice and sipping it while she considers her next remark.

"How long?" Elly asks curiously, resting her chin on her hand and I share a look with Wolf.

"Two months? Officially..." I question somewhat and he nods, lifting a hand and brushing my hair behind my ear. I avert my gaze back to my sisters. "I went to Argentina with Hitter, it's where him and Crow are from."

"That's where you were?" Rikki asks and I nod. "I suspected it but...you really are in love, aren't you?"

I look up at Wolf again and with confidence, nod my head. "I never really understood you before when you talked about marriage and settling down but...I think I've found my own special someone." He cups my cheek, brings my face closer and pecks my nose with his. I smile and rest my cheek against his shoulder as we sit, catching Crow's eye from the other side of the table and feeling slightly guilty because they're not on speaking terms while I'm walking on cloud nine.

"Well, whatever makes you happy. Now onto the other...more serious matters. Your aunt and I have been looking into whoever has been trying to come after me." We all straighten and Hitter's hand slides down to my leg as he leans forward.

"You told us to drop it, Yasmine. You said it was nothing." He says sharply and she smiles.

"I needed you focused on Jamie."

"Mom, what is it?" Rickson asks worriedly.

Mom chuckles bitterly. "It's your sister." She's staring right at Wolf when she says this, and then she looks towards Crow who stands up and storms out immediately. Wolf watches her go. I nudge his side and he sighs long and hard but doesn't make a move to go after her as he says lowly,

"Our sister? We have a sister?"

"There were too many family affairs going on and I didn't bring this into the mix until now because of your helping Jamie through her problems, but..."

"You've known this entire time." He raises a finger and points it at her, tone so sharp I flinch.

"You weren't ready fur—"

"Don't."

"I didn't want you to have to choose between me or your family."

"You're my family, Yasmine! They're trying to ruin me. Ruin you."

"Maybe they want to protect you. Have you tried talking to them?"

Wolf scoffs and shakes his head in disbelief as he brings both hands up to cover his face. We're all silent now as he grips his face hard, taking deep breaths, but then Rickson stands and nods her head for the sisters to leave. I look up at her but she shakes her head and tells me to stay.

I'm left with my mom and Wolf. "I've been saying, over and over that they don't love me. I've said countless times that those people are using their own kids as pawns against each other and you want me to 'talk to them'."

"Crow wasn't aware when she was younger Wolf."

"I don't care anymore." He snaps, shrugging his shoulder staring at my mom with red eyes. "I want them nowhere near me, you know how I feel about them so just...just leave me out of it. I'm going to speak to my protection officer, tell her I feel unsafe and she'll have me in a new location under a new name overnight."

"Wolf." I say, pain staking my chest at his cool tone but he doesn't even turn to face me.

"You don't have to do this." My mom tries to reason, tears shining in her eyes with guilt and sadness as she shakes her head. "You don't know how long you'll be gone this time if you make such a call."

"I can't do this Yasmine! You know I can't speak about this and nobody is listening when I say those people aren't who you want to hang around." A tear slips from his eye and catches on his mask.

"Learn the hard way. I'll be in touch." The sound of his chair scraping when he stands is agonising, and I take a deep breath as he walks out, looking at me mom and she nods.

"Watch out for him, Sugar. I'll hear from you soon."

"Mom..." I trail off with disbelief and stand with her as she comes to hug me tightly.

"I know you two will be good for each other. Go. I love you."

I sniff, throat closed with heavy emotions from the last couple of minutes and I'm not even sure if I fully understand what's going on right now.

Somehow everything went from being semi-perfect, telling my family about what's been going on with Wolf and I, him telling me he loves me and me promising that we'd figure out whatever it is he needed to move on from his past but now...

"I love you too." I murmur, before running outside and finding Wolf in his car, talking on his phone as he grips the staring wheel, eyes bloodshot while staring straight ahead.

I slide in beside him and he looks at me in surprise. "Yeah, I'll meet you at the house...no my sister isn't coming...my girlfriend?" I nod, reaching over to pull his hand into mine.

"I'm going where you go." I whisper and he sniffs and nods.

He clears his throat. "My girlfriend needs arrangements...immediately...see you soon." Wolf hangs up the phone, pulls his mask down then pulls me over to crash his lips to mine. I breathe deeply through my nose and kiss him just as hard, meeting his tongue with my own and deep diving into him.

I wipe away his tears, continuing to kiss him, feeling the rest of my surrender into him right at that moment. He's the one who needs me now.

Pulling away, he looks into my eyes and nods. I smile and mirror the gesture. "I don't know where we're going or for how long. Are you sure about this?"

I cup his cheek while shaking my head, "You can't leave me. I won't let you leave me. Wolf, I love you. I need to be with you right now - although not as nearly as you need me." He kisses me again, gentle and lingering this time and I sigh contently.

"I love you too." He murmurs, before turning to push the car into drive and slam on the gas. When Wolf was talking to my mom about his parents, I could sense his fear...he himself turned into a hitman after witnessing what his parents put him through but he holds literal terror against them.

I thought it was hatred, I really did, but he's too afraid for that. He's running, leaving behind the sister who's supposed to be his entire world with no hope in saving her anymore. What does she need saving from? Why can't he just say it?

I rest my head on Wolf's shoulder and shut my eyes as we drive. My mom knows we're disappearing, but she told me to go...I didn't say goodbye to my sisters properly but I know I'll see them soon enough. Looking up at Wolf from the corner of my eyes, he's calm enough now than he was earlier on, halfway to hysterics.

I lift up his hand and kiss it. He's been suffering silently for too long...I won't let him suffer much longer. I said more than once that I'd kill for him, now my love runs deeper and I'd do anything just to keep him safe...make sure that he's okay.

We reach the white mansion he took me to once before and climb out of the car, the two of us silent but the sound of my heels against the pavement echoing all around the silence.

Going inside, this time there's no rush, so I take my time and soaking in the high ceilings, windows letting in natural lighting from outside, reflecting off antique paintings and furniture.

"My agent will be here soon. Do you want to send someone to bring your stuff?" Wolf comes to stand beside me and I nod, turning to him with a smile.

"Sure." He gives me his phone and after a short call with one of my guards, I wrap my arms around the back of his neck and gaze into his eyes.

"Is this the calm before the storm comes?" I trail a finger over the arch of his thick eyebrows. "We won't have to run because I've already got us covered."

We just stand there, staring at each other and I shrug then tug on his arm. "Give me a tour to your bedroom. I need to shower before we go."

"You don't have any clothes." He takes over with leading us forward, holding my hand in his.

I gasp dramatically and he glances over his shoulder at me for a split second then chuckles. "I am offended. You don't want to lend me even a shirt?"

He grins widely. "You could always wear nothing."

"You have an obsession with me wearing nothing, so no thank you."

We stop outside two white double doors after passing more just like them. "I have a very beautiful girlfriend." He whispers, causing tingles all over me before turning around and throwing the doors open.
