The soft humming of the engine is all that fills the silence of the car as it glides down a road in the early morning of nearly 4am.
Yasmine is sat in the backseat of the vehicle, her gloved hands resting interlocked on her crossed knee as she stares out through her one way tinted windows. There's barely anybody else out at this time, except for the occasional car that may be on its way to a distanced place of employment or perhaps a mistress-maybe just a drive to clear the mind but the reasons are perhaps not as heavy as Yasmine's.
Her driver doesn't dare say a word, not even when they stop in the middle of seemingly nowhere and she climbs out to open for the Davenport woman.
Yasmine climbs out of the car and her driver grabs a coat that's lying in the vacated backseat to help her boss slip into it before climbing back into the car and waiting.
Sandy flooring is gathered under her heels as she begins to walk, pulling out her phone and typing with speed across the keyboard.
That's when she arrives. A shed. She pushed the rusted door then shoves it open using her hip before stepping inside a lit arena compared to the previous darkness, roars of cheers and claps and grunts filling the former silence and she quickly closes the door then crosses the length of the floor which is occupied with a large cage in the middle of the room.
Eyes that meet hers quickly glance away, men and women slowly quiet at her presence and the bodies that were previously fighting in the cage seemingly cease at her unexpected presence.
The power of a Davenport is...unexplainable, to say lightly. Disappearing into an office, she closes the door behind her just as the noise starts once again.
"Yasmine."
"Are you making an attempt on my life again?" Her cold voice is calm as she stares into great green eyes that sparkle with mischief and she can't help the annoyance that falls over her.
In the small office, the stench of cigarettes and alcohol is strong, a single black desk in the middle with a spinning chair and two velvet sofas.
That's about it for this room.
"Me? Make an attempt on you, my sweet Yazzy?" The woman drawls and Yasmine rolls her eyes just as the door opens and closes behind her.
"Hi mom. Hi mother." Rickson's voice fills the room and both women turn to her.
"Hi bear,"
"Hello beautiful,"
They both say simultaneously and Rickson takes of her coat then stares at the woman with green eyes. "Are you trying to kill mom?"
The woman scoffs. "Why are you both accusing me of such? No. My love, you really think if wanna kill your precious Yazzy?"
To the woman's question, Rickson tilts her head pointedly and crosses her arms over her chest firmly. "Okay, not this time! I swear. You believe me, don't you? If I was trying to kill her, you'd know instead of just guessing. Trust me."
Rickson exchanges a glance with Yasmine who sighs. "What now?" She asks the older woman who smiles.
"Now you go home and I'll let you know if I find any more leads." Is her reply so Rickson walks forward and gives her a hug and a kiss on the cheek, approaching the green eyed woman and pecking her cheek as well before grabbing her coat then making her exit.
"Who could it be?"
"I don't know Riley." Yasmine turns to the woman standing beside the table, her height towering and her hair a deep shade of auburn.
The woman who gave birth to her oldest daughter.
Riley Ripley, the biological mother to Rickson who had the child taken from her after being admitted into rehab. Rickson is known as the perfect Davenport but once her past came knocking and she found out that he mother was not only a drug dealer but addicted to the killing substance she refused to accept it was true.
It was hard on her because how could she come from such a-a drab past when she turned out to be so proper. She was ashamed but things were never always as they seemed and when the woman returned years on top of years later...she let an explanation happen further and found out that her own mother hadn't been too lucky in the parent area hence the addiction.
After serious convincing that she was clean and lots of therapy, Rickson was okay with finally forgiving the woman and agreed to get to know her. Her sisters aren't fully aware of their oldest sister and her mother but they know Riley in passing. Very discreet passing.
Part of her drug use meant how unstable Riley was mentally hence the accusation that she have a hit out on Yasmine because she tends to go slightly insane over jealously...and that jealousy doesn't just stretch towards their 'shared' daughter.
"I'm gonna go." Yasmine glances at her diamond wrist watch them nods at Riley and heads for the door.
"I'll keep an eye out, Yazzy."
Yasmine pauses with her hand on the door knob and smiles. "The last time you said that, my ex husband was almost assassinated."
She turns around and raises an eyebrow. "Are you on drugs again, dear Riley? You know how unstable your thoughts get when you're under the influence."
"I'm only under the influence of one thing. Good old you, so you bet that I'll get to the bottom of it." Riley leans against her desk and Yasmine can't help but laugh.
"I'm the Davenport, dear. I can take take care of myself."
"You need someone to take care of you too, Yazzy."
The Davenport mother rolls her eyes and opens the door, turning away once again. "By you?"
"Look at me and I'll answer." Yasmine shakes her head, hating-no loathing how flustered her oldest daughter's biological mother seems to make her feel.
"Just don't leave any dead bodies on my doorstep anymore. They stain the concrete." Without looking back, Yasmine leaves and closes the door behind her, her hips swaying from side to side and once again, near silence falls at her entrance in the large room but she heads straight for the door and exits out into the dark outdoors.
Making her way back to her car with her hands in the pockets of her coat, she watches through the minimal light sky as her driver climbs out and opens the back door. Sliding in, she doesn't exactly startle at the sight of her waiting daughter but she doesn't exactly remain unfazed.
"Did you sleep with mother again?" Yasmine smiles and turns outside the window, motioning for her driver to go without answering the question.
Rickson knows that her mom has a soft spot for the woman who birthed her but Yasmine will personally cut out her vocal chords before she'd ever admit that she's developed romantic feelings for another, let alone her biological mother.
"It's okay, I don't mind. Especially if she makes you happy."
"Stella, let's grab breakfast on the way to Rikki's house, the kids will be up by the time we arrive." Yasmine continues to ignore her oldest daughter so the younger female takes the hint and lets the topic drop.
.....
"Let's head out into the village." Wolf tells Jamie three days after they had arrived on the island. They had planned to have breakfast with his friends today after letting themselves set in as well as adjust to an environment as just the two of them. It wasn't hard. "There's a few stores open since it's only a couple of miles from the next island over so we can find somewhere to eat.
Jamie leans down and lathers lipstick onto her lips, rubbing them together before grabbing her lip gloss and turning to face him. "Okay." She answers, adding some lip gloss over top before fluffing out her hair and smiling. "How do I look?"
"Perfect as always."
Jamie smiles and smooths down her satin skirt, which is paired with a matching satin top, a slit showcasing her toned long legs.
"Change shoes though, we have to hike through the forest to get to the docks."
Jamie frowns, looks down at her five inch wedge sandals and sighs. "You could carry me?"
"As much as I'd love to la preciosidad, the hike isn't as forgiving." He tells her and she walks to the closet, where she pulls out a pair of chunky white sneakers and holds them up. "Nice."
"Fine." Grabbing a pair of white socks, Jamie changes the shoes then grabs a white purse and rose gold sunglasses to finish off her vacation look.
"I'm ready." Taking her free hand in his, Wolf leads Jamie out of their room and down the hallway leading to outside.
"Jamie!" Eleanor calls and Jamie smiles, slipping her sunglasses onto her face and walking over to the other female, giving her a hug.
"Hi Ele." Jamie greets, before pulling back and nodding at Eddie while stepping back into Wolf's arms.
There's security already waiting and after a bit of conversation between the group of friends, they go off the welcome path of the resort like inn and onto the rocky path leading into the forest.
The trees in the forest have white, spotted trunks that attract Jamie curiously, her hand reaching out to run over the body. "They're white poplar." Wolf reads her mind and she smiles.
"They're beautiful."
"I'll bring you for a picnic out in the clearer part of the forest one of these days." She turns to him and nods once, continuing to walk ahead with the others. Wolf stares at her back as he walks a step behind her, his eyes raking over her blonde hair and tanned shoulders, thinking back to all the times he saw her at this angle, but from a greater distance.
Snaking his arm around her waist, she melts naturally into his arms and goes on her tip toes to peck his temple. "Thank you for bringing me here."
"Thank you for coming." He whispers.
.....
"Oh my gosh." Jamie breathes, taking a seat on the wooden dock once they've gotten off the helicopter after their walk through the forest in need of a proper break.
"Wow." Eleanor breathes as she stares out at the other arriving helicopters or small planes landing a few feet away from them. "Look."
Lifting her finger, Eleanor continues to point at where a row of boats are also docking, women dressed in traditional Portuguese attire are standing greeting everyone with smiles and welcoming voices.
"Oh..." Wolf smiles to himself as his feet pull him to the very festive looking village. The small island they're on is a need to know island only residents of other small areas would know. It's been so long since he's seen anything even remotely related to his home county and seeing the true cultured parts has him excited.
"Wolf." Jamie calls, getting to her feet again, exhaustion gone at the sight of Wolf's sparkling eyes and she laces her fingers through his. "Let's explore?"
"Definitely." Putting on his own sunglasses, Wolf pulls Jamie down the last part of the dock, before jogging ahead into the small townlike village, immediately changing to his mother time and interacting wholesomely with those he's been neglected of knowing, regardless of whether he was blood related or not.
The entire area is painted in the brightest of colours, orange, green, blue, teal, yellow - so many more to count, the smell of food in the air, as well as the drifting sound of music from the stores behind walls.
Passing food stands, Jamie stays back and lets Wolf taste the food, his mask being pulled down to indulge in the cuisine.
Feeling sudden tugging, Jamie's eyes widen when she turns to the group of women who have grabbed each of her arms, throwing materials on and around her while speaking excitedly at a fast pace.
"Oh I'm sorry, I don't understand." She shakes her head and tries to motion with her hands but they don't seem to mind, pulling her into a very bright and dizzying with patterns boutique.
She's pushed around and given different things, wild hand gestures directing her to the counter and Jamie just stands there, trying to listen to everyone regardless of her understanding or lack thereof anyways. "Okay, okay." Jamie reaches into her purse and pulls out a stack of cash.
"$1,000." The women's eyes widen as she pulls out another stack. "$2,000." Jamie holds up two fingers then waves the money around. "Get me your nicest stuff."
