Oryn smiled to herself as she flicked the light switch off again. She knew it probably shouldn't amuse her as much as it did, but she could feel the buzz in the room every time the lights came back on.
"You are going to wake him if you continue." Mitchell directed an amused look her way.
She flipped the switch again to turn the dim lights back on and sheepishly sat on the bed next to Mitchell, eyes focusing in on the sleeping man in the other bed. Her wonderful Avriel. He'd taken charge with such ease and when they'd happened upon what he called 'a resort' he'd lit up with a brilliant smile, a blatant display of relief that made her realize just how much worry and stress he had been carrying around.
Things had been a bit of a rollercoaster after that. The beings in the place known as "Phillippines' looked so different than her Avriel and Mitchell's Scott that she wondered if they were even human at all. Perhaps they were a different species. She wanted to ask, but Avriel had instructed them to let him do all of the talking and he was doing quite a bit of talking. She deduced that the Philippines creatures were not human as they had a bit of trouble communicating until another of the Philippines came over to help translate. In the end, she decided that she liked them. They seemed kind even if they did look at her strangely.
The building they entered was a strange one, very linear, colorful and full of empty spaces. She wanted to explore, but Mitchell put an arm around her shoulders to lead her away. There were so many things to look at that she could barely keep up. Maybe the Philippines did have magic and they weren't quite as different from fae as she'd assumed.
She nearly pressed all of the buttons in the 'elevator' she was led inside of but Avriel had stopped her as the doors closed them in. Neither her nor Orion were prepared for the room to move and she ended up clinging to her amused love as he stroked the back of her hair.
Once the doors opened she realized that 'elevator' was a transporter and they'd ended up in another place entirely. There were doors and lots of numbers, but a strong arm kept her from lingering and soon they were in a safe place where they could rest.
Avriel had immediately made for the 'shower', but she thought the water smelled funny and couldn't see the advantage of it. Magic cleaned her just fine.
In the short time that Avriel was shut up inside the 'bathroom', the fae had nearly torn the room apart. Mitchell just barely managed to save the 'TV' when she'd sat on the box that made it yell, but he wasn't fast enough to save the screaming box with numbers on it before Orion had destroyed it. Mitchell had called it a clock, but that didn't make it any less evil and she was glad that clock was dead.
Her human love had been disappointed when he saw the carnage but still he managed to laugh and tell them it was alright. He'd disappeared again shortly after that to go 'shopping' for new clothes for the group but not before giving Mitchell his phone and connecting it to the 'wifi' which must have been the communication magic he'd talked about before. She was glad that Mitchell knew how to use the device and when Scott's name appeared on the screen Mitchell was able to see Scott's face with a swipe of his finger. She tried to show Orion the wonderful magic that was 'wifi' but he disappeared out onto the balcony to keep watch. It was his loss. It was wonderful seeing Sarah again, and the little pudgey was so excited to see Mitchell that she knocked what Scott called a 'lap top' off of his bed.
Avriel soon returned with new clothing for them and it was strange wearing the loose clothing he'd called a 'tank and shorts' but if it was what he wanted then she would wear it. Orion looked silly in his 'sweats and tee' and she had told him so with many giggles. He was not amused and disappeared back outside to keep watch. While they changed clothes Avriel had spoken with Scott and discussed food options. She watched him pick up a strangely shaped object and spoke to it demanding it bring them 'cheese and pizza and water.' He'd laughed when she picked it up after he was done and spoke to it but all it did was whine at her. Philippines was full of noises.
"Can fae have chocolate?" Avriel asked the vision of Scott's face, and Mitchell and his love both started smiling and stared at each other as if their eyes could communicate instead of words.
"She can have chocolate but only a little." Mitchell affirmed with a little smirk.
Avriel seemed almost excited as he dipped into the bag their extra clothes were in and pulled out a little rectangle of something. It smelled lovely and she leaned in to look closer as he unwrapped it and broke off a piece and held it out to her.
She took it and held it in her hand, tilting her head as she regarded the 'chocolate' in her palm.
"Taste it." Mitchell encouraged and once it was on her tongue her eyes widened at the sensation of delicious melting chocolate.
"Is it good?" Avriel's eyes were bright as he watched her and she nodded enthusiastically, fingers touching her lips as she swallowed the last bit and the taste still lingered.
"May I please have more?" She asked hopefully looking from Avriel to Mitchell.
The prince grinned but nodded. "Only one more piece or you will be bouncing off of the walls, as Scott says."
She was disappointed but agreed and after closing her eyes to enjoy her last piece she begged Avriel to let Orion try it. Her brother had been resistant, claiming he didn't want to be poisoned by a human, but eventually he'd given in and even the grumpy guard couldn't deny that it was wonderful.
For that short moment things seemed to be light and happy until a loud buzzing sent the siblings into defense mode again and Orion had drawn his sword at the sound of another voice on the other side of the door.
Mitchell contained that situation while Avriel answered the door and the items that he had demanded from the strange device earlier were delivered. Oryn wasn't quite sure what to make of the events, but her love assured her that everything was fine and this was just how it worked at 'resorts'. She had a million questions, but Avriel wasted no time explaining 'pizza' and began to eat as if he were starving.
Scott told him to slow down or he'd make himself sick, but she hadn't been able to understand Avriel's muffled response. She took her own hesitant bite after Mitchell did the same and just as she had with chocolate she enjoyed every single bite.
While they ate she listened and watched as Avriel and Scott talked about more things she didn't understand, airports and passports and plane tickets, but even though she didn't know what they were talking about his deep voice was still soothing.
It was sad watching Scott and Mitchell say goodbye but Scott promised they would see each other very very soon and those words seemed to lift the severe frown on her prince's face. Soon they would be together.
It wasn't long after Scott went away and they had finished their meal that Avriel had climbed into the other bed and fallen asleep, his hair splayed out on the pillow.
She sat staring at him until her curiosity got the best of her again and she began to explore their room.
That's how she'd ended up playing with the light switch for so long. She knew she should rest, but she just couldn't do it. There was too much to see and learn about. Her magic buzzed beneath her skin as the excitement and wonder of it all filled her to the brim. Mitchell also said it was the chocolate but it had been so worth it.
She really and truly tried to stay on the bed next to Mitchell so she wouldn't wake the sleeping man, but she was on her feet not 15 minutes after Mitch had scolded her for turning the lights on and off.
After touching nearly everything she came upon a little chest that held many small bottles of liquid. When she opened one the smell wrinkled her nose and she struggled to get the top back on. She tried a different colored bottle and it was even worse. Still, she opened the next and the next, letting the different smells invade her senses as she tried to guess what their purpose was.
"That smell... please close it." Mitchell's eyes were wide and sad at the same time. Something there in those eyes looked distant, as if he were lost in memory.
"I am sorry." She quickly replaced the lid and put it back where she'd gotten it from and went back to her spot next to Mitchell, embarrassed that she kept getting herself into trouble. She let her eyes wander to Avriel again, looking over his features to keep her mind occupied. She moved to the other bed, climbing over and next to her love. It was his hair that had called to her, begging her fingers to run through it. She let the strands slide between them, happy just to be near her bond mate.
"What are we going to do with them?" Mitchell stared at the sleeping man just as she did and the ambiguity of the question confused her.
"I do not understand what you are asking." She looked up at him, the sadness radiating off of him in waves that sucked her and her mood down with him.
"We cannot take them back to Illyria ... so is this our new home?"
She pondered the question she'd been avoiding since falling so hard for the strange man. She knew it would have to be answered eventually but she still wasn't ready to confront it.
"I do not know what will happen but if this is our new home then it will be a good home. I will be happy because he will be with me."
She tried to decipher the change of emotions on his face without the telltale change of eye color. It wasn't easy.
"If you discovered that your magic had forced Avriel's mind and heart to love you and you had the means to break the bond, would you?"
The question caught her off guard but she knew her answer immediately. "No. I know his love for me is true. I can see it in his eyes and feel it in my heart. He was my missing half, the other part of me that made me whole. I cannot even imagine a world where I do not love him. I do not want to."
Tears fell from her friend's eyes and she was up and over to the other bed in a flash, wrapping the sad prince up in her arms. She did not know why he had asked such a question, but she knew he was tired and the longing for his love was still as poignant as ever.
"You will hold him soon and you will be happy again. You will be able to smile again."
He didn't answer just tightened his hold on her.
Sleep would find neither that night.
