Chapter 61: Benjamin Skies
'Kadence's POV'
"What are we going to do?" Mom asks, looking at dad and Lilian. She sits on the metal bed, holding me on her lap and petting my hair.
I'm scared, and the muscles in my neck are very sore.
The white coats are going to use me against mommy and daddy...
As I think this, a flash of guilt takes over my body. All I've ever been to them is a nuisance; another person to look after, to worry about...
I feel a tear run down my cheek
"Kadence, what's wrong?" Dad asks, kneeling in front of the bed, mom, and I.
More tears fall from my eyes
'Silver's POV'
"I'm sorry! This is all my fault! You guys would be safe and happy if I had never been born!" He shouts, crying even harder.
Hearing my child, the one who I would do anything for, say that makes me want to cry. But I know that wouldn't help anything right now, so I swallow the feeling.
"Kadence, why would you ever think that?" Khaos asks
"Because it's true! You and mom have risked your own lives so many times for me..." He hiccups
"Kadence, that's because your father and I love you. We would do anything to get you out of this alive, so that the rest of your life doesn't have to be like ours was." I say, tenderly, trying to calm the crying child
"Don't say that!" He shouts, "I don't want to leave this place unless you guys are coming with me!" He looks down, "I don't want to live without a mommy and daddy..."
I feel a tear run down my cheek. Khaos wraps his arms around Kadence and I.
I would give anything to tell him that he will never have to live without a mother and father, but that is something I can't promise him right now.
Lilian slowly moves to sit beside me on the bed. She wraps one of her arms around my shoulders and allows me to lean my head on her shoulder.
~~~
I'm startled by a loud knock on the cell door.
We'd finally gotten Kadence to stop crying last night, and put him to bed. Khaos, Kadence and I had slept in the metal bed, and Lilian offered to sleep on the ground using the extra blanket from the bed.
Lilian sits up immediately, her head turning quickly to look at the door.
"Get up, now!" Vanessa's voice rings as the door slams open. Kadence jumps and sits up as well.
Guards grab onto my arms. I see them grab the others as well, and we're escorted through the building. We end up in a room with a large white table with many white chairs placed around it.
I see many guards and many white coats scattered around the room, all watching us, some stopping for a moment to scribble something on their clipboards. I recognize disguised Cole, and assume that the four other scientists standing directly beside him are the other ninja.
A young man with jet-black hair and harsh grey eyes is sitting at one end of the table. He looks to be only a few years older than I am. I feel like I recognize his eyes from somewhere, but I'm not sure where...
One of the guards pulls out the chair at the opposite end of the table of the man and tells me to sit in it. I follow his orders and sit down, keeping my eyes on the black haired man.
Kadence is sat in the chair to the left of mine, Khaos beside him, and Lilian to my right. The man looks directly at me.
"Hello, Silver." He says, watching as I narrow my eyes at him
"Who are you?" I ask, crossing my arms over my chest
"I am Benjamin Skies, the son of Christopher Skies," he answers.
I knew I recognized his eyes from somewhere!
He continues, "after you killed my father, I inherited the position that he previously filled."
"And what do you want with me?" I ask, though I know the answer will not be good
"Well, first of all, you killed my father, so I want you dead. However, you are also the most successful female experiment ever constructed. So, before I am able kill you, we will need to conduct many tests and harvest all of your available eggs, in order to recreate an experiment who will be as successful as you have been." I knew his answer was going to be bad, but his words still strike fear through me
"No! Please don't hurt my mommy!" Kadence shouts, his small and reaching out to grab my own hand
"I had forgotten about you, Kadence," he turns to look at one of the white coats, "has he been successful?"
The white coat flips through the papers on his clipboard, "yes, other than being disobedient, much like his mother. We also had success in taking control of his brain; however, upon hearing his mother's voice, we lost control."
"I see," he looks back at Kadence, "I suggest you learn to become more obedient, or you could very well end up in the same situation as your mother."
Kadence's eyes widen. He's a smart child, he knows that Benjamin just threatened his life.
"M-mommy..." he tries to move off of his chair to sit on my lap
"Don't move!" One of the guards shouts and points his gun at Kadence. Kadence flinches at the guards loud voice, and sits back in his own chair. I see tears roll down his cheeks
"He's only a child." Khaos says, looking at Benjamin
"No, failed indestructible weapon, he is a mutation, much like yourself," Benjamin says, looking over Khaos and sighing, then looking back at me
"Silver, you really have ruined so many of our mutations..." He sighs again
"I'm glad." I say, narrowing my eyes once again. My collar makes a quiet beep, and I feel an electric shock run through my body.
I scream in pain and try to pull the collar off of my neck.
"Silver!" Lilian shouts, standing from her chair to try and hold me
"Sit down!" A guard shouts, and a gun is pointed at her. She sits, her arm still outstretched, her hand resting on my forearm
The shock dies down, leaving my vision blurry.
"I hope this will teach you not to be cocky when speaking to me," Benjamin smirks at me
I muster up the biggest smirk I can, "oh Benny, it's going to take a lot more than that to knock the cockiness out of me," Benjamin seems taken aback, but he matches my smirk with one of his own
"Oh Silver, we've got a lot more in store for you," his words make my blood run cold. He nods at one of the guards, and they grab onto my arms, as well as Lilian's, and Khaos'. They drag us back to the cell, and throw us inside
"Hey! Where's my son! What are they doing to my son!" I shout, pounding against the cell door
"Oh, don't worry about him, Benjamin has something very special planned for him," one guard smirks at me
"What?! What is he doing to him?!" I scream, hitting the door again
"Silver, you're going to get shocked!" Lilian shouts, rushing to my side and attempting to restrain my arms
"I don't care! They've got my son!" I struggle with all of my strength, but Lilian will not let me go. My anger turns to sadness once the realization that I can do nothing to help him sets in.
"Silver, it's going to be okay... We're going to get out of here," her voice is quiet and soothing. I can remember her saying something similar to me when I was younger.
I let tears fall down my cheeks as I lay with Lilian on the floor, giving Khaos the bed. Lilian knows how to get me to fall asleep, she's been doing it for years now.
She begins to hum her tune, the one she remembers from her mother, while petting down my hair. I lean my head against her chest and listen to her steady, calm heartbeat. I'm lulled into sleep.
