Chapter 60: More Important Than Your Own Lives
'Silver's POV'
I lay on my metal bed, my thoughts racing.
What are they doing to my child? His father? My best friend?
Why didn't their mind control work on me? Why is my brain the only one they can't get into?
I force these thoughts into the back of my mind, and try desperately to fall asleep.
My eyes shoot open, and I find myself in a dark room with a glass ceiling. I also notice that I'm in the same white dress that I normally find myself in when I encounter Little Me.
"Silver!" She calls happily, causing me to turn. I see her familiar face and smile. She runs towards me
"We're so close! We're going to destroy them!" I exclaim, she stops, and the smile fades from her face
"Silver, they aren't finished with you yet..." She says, as a tear runs down her cheek
"What do you mean?" What more could they possibly do to me?
"If they can't find a way into your brain... They're going to force Khaos to kill you!" Her voice raises, and she looks at me. Tears now flow freely from her eyes
"They're coming for us, my father and the others are going to save us." I say, more to myself than to her
"Vanessa is desperate, Silver... She's going to kill you..." Her voice is quiet and scared sounding
My voice gets caught in my throat, and I feel weak
"I-is everyone else okay?" I ask, my thoughts turning to Lilian, Kadence and Khaos
"No, Silver, nobody is okay..." She states, sadly. A door slams open, and Little Me jumps
"They're here! Silver, you've got to fight! You have to fight!" She screams, before the white coats rush into the room and force her away from me.
I wake up in a panic, fear flooding my body. I sit up and look around, realizing that I'm in the same cell I was in when I fell asleep.
They're going to force Khaos to kill me...
I curl up on my bed, holding my knees against my chest.
'Kadence's POV'
I struggle wildly as the white coats force me into an 'observation room', at least, that's what I'd heard mom call theses rooms.
The white coats push me to the ground, and then make their way out of the room.
"Hello, Kadence." As I stand up, Vanessa appears in my field of vision. I take a deep breath, trying to calm myself down.
I look around the room, spotting Lilian in the farthest corner, barely breathing. I see something metallic around her neck, but I'm not close enough to see what it is.
"Where are my parents?" I ask, looking into Vanessa's eyes and narrowing my own
"Oh Kadence, you'll see your again parents soon enough. For now, I have something new for you to try out." As soon as she says those words, white coats rush into the room again.
My eyes widen when one of the white coats, who is holding a briefcase, walks towards me.
"Come here, I'm not going to hurt you." He tries to grab my arm, but I step back
"Don't touch me!" I shout, causing the white coat to furrow his eyebrows and narrow his eyes at me
"Come here, you little brat!" The other white coats begin to move closer as well, ready to hold me down
"No! I want to see my parents!" I shout, taking steps back as they take them forward
"Kadence, you can see your parents as soon as we put this new device on you." Vanessa says
I turn to look at her, taking my focus off of the approaching white coats... Big mistake... the white coat with the briefcase snaps something tight around my neck.
'Lilian's POV'
I watch quietly from my spot on the ground. Having my mind played with really takes it's toll on me...
Silver would be so proud of Kadence if she could see him right now. He's so much like her... The way he refuses to cooperate... He refuses to go down without a fight... Just like Silver
'Kadence's POV'
The white coats leave the room. I rush over to Lilian, and hug her tightly
"Lilian, are you okay?" I ask, looking at her face, which is very pale
"I'm alright, Kadence." She sits up and wraps her arm around me. I sit back and look at the thing on her neck; it looks like a metal dog collar, and it has a red light that flashes at a steady pace.
The door is opened again, and mom and dad are shoved in, both wearing one of the collar-like things.
'Silver's POV'
"Kadence! Lilian!" I shout, seeing them by the far corner of the room. Khaos and I rush over to them. I wrap my arms around them both, hugging them tightly. I release, and look at the things around our necks
"What are these?" I ask, touching the collar-like thing that has been put around my neck
The speaker in the room beeps
"Those, Silver, are high-tech shock collars, designed specifically to kill the wearer after a certain number of shocks." Vanessa says. I turn to look at the glass and, of course, she's smirking at me
Before anyone has time to say anything back, a small female fish mutation is shoved into the room with us. She looks to be a teenager, but she is still quite small. As soon as the white coats let her go, she falls to the floor, like she doesn't have the strength to keep herself standing.
"This young mutation has gone against instruction one too many times, so I thought we could show you what will happen after your shock limit is passed." Vanessa slams her hand onto a button, and the fish mutation screams in pain
Her body vibrates as she screams, writhing in agony on the cold floor. I use my shaking hand to cover Kadence's eyes and hold him in my arms. The mutation rips at her neck, tearing her skin with her nails as she tries to get the collar off.
After minutes, the mutation falls silent and her body stops vibrating. Her heart finally stopped. She had torn many chunks of flesh out of her neck while trying to get the collar off... The sight is horrifying...
I don't take my hand off of Kadence's eyes until a few white coats remove the mutation's body from the room. He sniffles and uncovers his ears, which he had covered to try and block out the mutation's screaming.
Vanessa walks into the room, her hands folded behind her back.
"Take them off, now!" I demand, giving Kadence to Lilian as Khaos and I stand up
"Silver, I wouldn't attack me if I were you." She says, her eyes moving to my collar
"Go ahead, shock me! I don't care!" I shout, taking a step closer to her. A few guards make their way into the room, ready to stop us if we try anything
My earpiece beeps
"Silver, don't get yourself into unnecessary conflict."
"Well, it's time for more tests." Vanessa nods her head to one of the guards, who walks towards me. He reaches out to grab me
"Don't touch me!" I shout, pulling my arm away from his grasp. Kadence screams. I turn and look at him immediately. His collar shocked him...
"I knew you would resist." She laughs
I rush over to him, his breathing has become very heavy, and tears are streaming from his eyes.
"He didn't do anything!" Khaos shouts, kicking a guard in the chest. Kadence screams again, as another shock runs through his body. The realization hits me hard
"Khaos! Don't fight them!" I scream, holding Kadence in my arms. Khaos stops, only to have his arms pinned behind him
"It has become very clear that your son's life is more important to the both of you than your own lives... So, when the two of you disobey, we will shock him. Until he dies, of course." I see Khaos' eyes widen
I look back at Kadence. He's crying and clawing at the collar.
"Put the four of them in a cell." Vanessa says. I stand up and walk willingly to the cell that they shove the four of us into.
