Chapter 26: A Legend
'Silver's POV'
When I wake up in the morning, Clarissa gives me medicine and I'm rushed to get dressed, eat and get outside
I'm handed a bow and a quiver full of arrows that hangs over my shoulder and between my wings for easy access.
First, they show me how to hold the bow. Then, how to stand. And finally, how to aim.
"Okay Silver, shoot at the target." Cole instructs. I nod and pull an arrow out of the quiver, positioning it and getting ready to shoot at the target that was hung on a tree
I let the arrow go, and it misses the target completely, lodging itself into the tree above the target
"You did okay, but your posture was off. You must learn to hit the target on the ground before you can start trying to hit one while flying." Zane says
"I know, I'm sorry." I sigh. I'm a great shot with a gun, but not with a bow and arrow
"Don't be sorry, we've just got to practice... A lot..." Lloyd reassures me. I nod and take another arrow out of my quiver, positioning it, and letting it go.
After a few more tries, I hit the target. Not in the middle, but on the side.
"Woohoo!" I jump up in the air
"Good job." I hear Sensei's voice and turn to see him watching us train "now, try to hit the target while flying."
"But Sensei, I've only hit the target once."
"Silver, why are you so nervous? This does not seem like you." He questions
"I am not nervous." I cross my arms over my chest, still holding onto my bow
"Then try." I let out a sigh of defeat and fly slightly into the air. I take another arrow out and aim it at the target.
I shoot, and hit the target even closer to the centre than last time
"Why is that so much easier?" I ask, landing and turning to him
"Because, you are a natural flyer, so making you try to do something on the ground is much harder for you than trying to do something in the air. It's just like if we tried to make the boys train in the air, it would be harder for them because they are more used to the ground." I nod my head
~~~
Three weeks have passed. I can easily hit the centre of the target from the air, and hit it on the edges while on the ground.
"Mommy, do you have to train again today?" Kadence asks. Ever since I've started to train for this, I haven't been able to spend as much time with Kadence
"I do, I'm sorry Kadence. You can come and practice flying while we train if you'd like." He nods and follows me outside
I shoot at moving targets while Kadence flies beside me. A siren sounds, causing my arrow to be shot into the ground.
We rush inside with the guys
"Guys, the scientists have started bombing buildings! Sensei needs to see you, now!" They run into a room, I follow quickly
"This is their plan, they're starting already..." Everyone looks at me
"What do you mean, Silver?" Sensei asks
"This is how they're going to kill the population of earth. We have to go and begin to recruit mutants now. We cannot wait." There is determination in my voice, more so than ever before
Sensei nods "Zane, how many institutes are there around the spot they are attacking?" Zane zones out, then answers
"Two."
"Good, you will save the mutants, then send Silver to our hideout with them." Everyone nods
I'm told to wear a tight black hoodie, black jeans and un-heeled black boots, so that I can move quietly through the shadows. The guys are in their ninja gi's.
We walk outside. Lilian hugs me tightly
"Stay safe." She says
"You too." We pull away. Kadence, almost immediately, jumps into my arms
"Please come back to us, mommy." He hugs me tightly, fighting back tears
"I will, Kadence." I kiss his forehead and hand him to Lilian. She gets into the car and they quickly drive away
The guys and I put our hands in a circle
"Ninja-go!!!" Lloyd creates his golden dragon, and the guys hop on.
We fly through the sky. We fly over the bombing. I see many ambulances, and firetrucks. Also white coats, who shoot the paramedics and firefighters
We land quietly on the roof
"Alright, security should be down, but be careful." Cole says, opening a panel on the roof
We drop through silently. This is not the institute I grew up in, but it looks almost identical.
"Silver, where do they keep the mutants?" Jay asks as we make our way quietly throughout the building
"They should be just through this door." I push open a heavy metal door. Every mutant in the room looks to us, as well as the four white coats. The guys draw their weapons, but I stop them
"We've got to be quiet-!" The white coats pull out their guns
I fly up slightly and send an arrow straight through each of their heads
"Nice shot. Everyone grab keys and send the mutants to Silver." Cole instructs
I stand in a corner and soon have every mutant in the room standing around me
"Look, I'm sure you all know what the white coats are planning on doing with the world. We're working to stop them and we'd like your help. We will be training all mutants we recruit for a war between mutation and scientist. So, who's in?" I ask. I receive a chorus of cheers.
They're going to help us fight, help us win against the white coats
"Follow me!" The flyers fly with me, each holding as many child mutations as we can, while anyone who can run, is doing so below us.
Our hideout is in the desert, hidden away in a sand dune. I press my hand into the sand dune and a hidden door opens. We follow the stairs deep into the ground, eventually coming to two metal doors.
I knock on the doors, since I don't know the code. Soon, Nya pulls the doors open
"Okay, everyone, please come in." They all rush through the open doors.
Sensei catches my arm as I try to go back and help the guys
"Silver, stay here, the others can bring the rest of the mutants here by themselves." I know there's no point in arguing with him.
I walk over to Kadence
"Mommy!" He jumps into my arms
"You did well, Silver." The chatter in the room dulls down quickly at the sound of my name
"You're Silver?" One of the mutants asks
"Yeah... Why?" I look around at them
"We've heard of you. You're like a legend. The mutant who escaped the white coats and is going to destroy them." Another answers
"Yeah, my mommy told me that story!" A little girl exclaims. I smile, I've given them the one thing they haven't had in so long; hope.
"Well then, I guess I'm your legend." Everyone whistles and hollers.
The guys return with the second batch of mutants. Even still, people are talking about how I'm this 'Legend' they've heard of.
We save another two institutions worth of mutants that night, while the scientists bomb more buildings.
I scan the hideout. The four institutions worth of mutants don't take up much of the space of this place, and that's while they're sleeping in sleeping bags.
I lay down in my sleeping bag with Kadence and fall asleep.
