Anthony Williams

Today is finally the day pf the operation. Every hour that passed by, my nervousness grew sky high. Excitement and fear are mixed within me. I will face this head on. Please be with me, Celine. Let me see the world that you saw. Let me see your smiling face.

"Mr. Williams? Please follow me to the operation room.", the nurse told me. I got up and I held her arm. While walking, I felt something weird. I felt like something is going to happen. I'm not sure if it is a good thing but whichever the case, I'll pursue and head on forward. There's no turning back. We arrive at the operation room. I could her the sound of clashing metal tools and people uttering words I could not comprehend since I am not a doctor.

"Mr. Williams, it's me, Dr. Mark. Good to see you again."

"Good to be here. Let's get this done.", I replied.

"Before we do that, let me introduce to you the surgeon of the day. She just graduated from her medical degree and now is a full fledged Optalmologist. ", Dr. Mark said. I held out my hand and we shook hands. It was soft and warm, like of a maiden.

"Dr. Mark, can we take a picture together?", I asked.

"Why do you ask?", he got confused.

"When this will be successful, I want to see who gave me my sight again. I want to thank them for their hard work.", I replied.

"Very well. Let's stand together. Hellan, please take our picture with your phone amd have it developed.", Dr. Mark instructed on of the nurses.

"One two three smile!" I smile for the photo. Then I laid down on the operation bed. The mask was placed on me and all those things that were needed. My eyes were starting to feel heavy after a few minutes. Celine. I want to see you. I miss you. Please be with me in this journey. I need you right now. Celine.

It was cold. I found myself awake in a certain room but I could not see. Bandage was wrapped around my eyes. It hurts a bit.

"Anthony!" I heard Leah's voice.

"Leah? You're here already? How long has it been?", I asked.

"Ten days.", she replied. I couldn't monitor the days anymore. My head was filled with eagerness to see again, to see your smile.

"Mr. Wiliams, today is the day that we take off your bandage. Are you ready?", Dr. Mark asked.

"Yes but is the surgeon here?", I asked him.

"Yes.", he replied.

"Alright. Let's do it.", I said, determined as ever. Slowly, Dr. Mark unwrapped the bandage. Light was peeking in my line of sight.

"Mr. Williams, now please open your eyes slowly and tell me if it hurts or if it stings."

Slowly, I opened my eyes. It had hurt at first but I slowly took my time to process my sight. After for about thirty minutes of opening and closing my eyes, I can finally see.

I can see. I can finally see!

I looked around.

"Hi Anthony! It's me, Leah!"

Leah.

"I'm Lee!"

Everyone introduced themselves to me as if it were the first time all of us met.

"Mr. Williams, please meet the surgeon who restored your sight. She has worked her butt off to restore your sight. "

I glanced at the person beside me. My heart wavered. My eyes widened.

"Meet Dr. Celine Garcia."

Celine. Is that really you?

I faced her and I placed my cold palm on her warm cheek. She placed her hand on top of mine.

"Hey, Anthony.", she greeted me for the first time in six years.

"Am I dead?" Everyone laughed.

"But I thought. Wait, what's going on?!", I asked, really confused.

"She'll tell you everything later. But is that supposed to be the first thing to say to her?", Leah asked. I faced Celine. She was right in front of me. Alive and breathing. Tears started to fall from my eyes.

"It's really you.", I said. We hugged each other really tightly.

"I finally saved you, Anthony.", she said as she cried, "I finally did save you."

"Thank you, Celine. Thank you so much. I missed you very much! I missed you so damn much! I love you so much Celine. I'll say it over and over again. I've missed you and I love you so much. Thank you for saving me."

"Uh, hello? We're still here you know?", Lee interrupted. Both of us quickly let go of the hug, embarrassed. They all laughed.

"What a reunion. Well Dr. Celine, you finally did it after six years of study.", Dr. Mark said.

"I couldn't have done it without you Dr. Mark.", she replied.

"I'll go on ahead and finish the report for you.", Dr. Mark exited.

"We'll take our leave as well. Bye guys!", Leah pushed Lee and they exited the room. Celine and I were finally alone.

"I thought you were really dead.", I broke the silence.

"I did die for a bit. I was told that I was dead for about two hours but then Dr. Mark checked up on me then he saw that my heart beating again. It all happened after they administered the medicine that is said to cure me of my disease, which it did but it killed me for a bit. Funny right? Sounds like it came out from a movie or something."

"But the burial, the tomb-", I paused.

"There was no tomb, right?", she asked. Now that I think about it, I never did find her tomb.

"But I saw your parents cry in the ICU. My mom also gave me a sketch of the cemetery!", I asked.

"I told everyone to keep my existence a secret until I was able to save you. Dr. Mark told me that my will to live was what saved me. I was thinking about you that moment when my mind went blank. I wanted to be with you. But in order to do so, I had to focus on my studies so I went to London to study to become a doctor. After six years, I graduated and I was confident that I would be able to save you. Remember? I made a promise to save you." 

"So they all knew except me?", I asked and she nodded.

"I'm sorry, Anthony. I'm sorry for keeping this a secret from you, for hiding from you for so many years.", she apologized.

"Do you know how lonely and hurt I was for the past six years?! I longed so much for you! Every day I cried myself to sleep, thinking that I will never ever see you again!", I replied.

"You weren't the only one hurting, Anthony. I missed you too, you idiot!", she yelled and suddenly kissed me. All the pain and loneliness were washed away by her warmth. I kissed her back, gently and softly. We pulled away from each other and I caressed her cheek.

"You're so beautiful, Celine." She smiled.

"Thank you so much for being so strong, Anthony.", she replied. We kissed again.

Never in my wildest dreams have I thought that I would see her again. I cannot explain the happiness that I felt now. Right here and then.

"Promise me you will never leave me again.", I said.

"This time, I'm staying for good.", she replied.

"Can I ask you something?"

"Yeah?"

"I've been meaning to ask you this since senior high school. Back then, I would've sworn to you that I will never love anyone else but you. Now," I grabbed her hands. She looked at me.

"Celine, I want to share a future with you. I want to have kids with you, grow old with you. I want all of you. Will you marry me?"

"Yes, I will."
