05. Burying the Hachet
Anthony Williams
The sun is shining brightly today yet there was a drizzle. No birds were chirping, not even a faint chirp. But somehow I felt that today will be a nice day. I arrived at school with Sam. We went to our lockers but he went on ahead after that. I was walking along the corridor when I saw someone who was drenched from the rain.
"Hey -", I was about to call her out when I saw some guy offering her his towel.
"I see that you've made a friend.", I uttered.
I watched them from afar. I actually didn't mind.

"Thank you."
"Don't sweat it. Anyway, you should bring an umbrella with you always."
"I forgot. Sorry.", I apologized.
"No need to apologize Celine. I have to go. See you around!", said Ken. I went to the wash room to change in to my gym clothes.
"Good thing I have my gym clothes already."
I came out of the wash room then I saw him. He was standing across where I was, like he was waiting for someone. I started walking but he called me out.
"Yo."
I turned around.
"I see that you've made a friend.", he said.
"He's just an acquaintance.", I replied.
"I didn't know you had a friend."
I didn't say anything. The bell rang and the students went inside thier corresponding classrooms. I started to walk and he tailed from behind.
"Umm"
"What is it?", he asked.
"I want to -"

"Hey!", I shouted. She fainted when she was about to say something. I carried her to the clinic. I had a hard time since I had to use my stick to guide me. We finally arrived at the clinic. The nurse helped me place her on the bed.
"I'll take it from here. Please go to your class now.", the nurse said. I exited the clinic and walked my way to the classroom. The day was longer and the classes were annoying. I felt pissed off for some reason. Seeing her faint infront of me, I felt restless because I wanted to help her but I hated her. I wanted to help people so I instictively helped her. But there is something that is really bugging me. I can't make do about what it is but I really wasn't happy about it.
"I need to go somewhere. Eat lunch without me guys."
Both of them just looked at me and gave thier approval. I headed to the clinic. Before I entered, I looked through the window and saw the same guy from this morning, sitting beside her bed. It seems like they're having a nice conversation. I didn't bother to enter.
I would've been a bother anyway.

When I came to, I saw Ken sitting beside my bed.
"You're awake."
"Yes I am."
"When I entered the clinic, I saw you sleeping. When I asked the nurse about what happened to you, I got worried. So I sat and waited for you to wake up.", Ken explained. I glanced at the window to the corridor and I was shocked to see him outside. Could he have wanted to come in? Was he worried about me? I smiled.
"Something wrong?", Ken asked.
"Nothing. I'm happy you kept me company. Sorry to have worried you."
"Don't apologize. There's no need to.", he replied.
We talked and had fun. I slept again and Ken went back to his class. When I awoke, it was already late in the afternoon. I got up and thanked the nurse. I went out and headed home.
"I'm home.", I said. My voice echoed all throught the empty house. I sighed and decided to have a walk at the beach.
"I wonder if the bridge is still there?" I wanted to check it out. When I arrived, I saw him, sitting under with his eyes closed. I turned around and walked away.

I opened my eyes and it was really cold even if I was wearing a jacket. I got up and decided to take a little walk. While walking, I saw her from a distance. When I got nearer, I realized that she was crying. I stood beside her and she looked up at me.
"What's wrong?", I asked but there was a long pause.
"It's nothing, really.", she replied.
"Okay." I sat beside her. Both of us looked at the far horizon. We were just silent. The waves were gently touching our toes and the wind whispered constantly. She looked pale. I guess she was really cold. I took off my jacket and had an instant chill. I placed the jacket around her shoulders, covering at least half of her body. She looked at me and I looked away.
"Just so you know, I still hate you." She smiled and nodded.
"I know. Thank you."
