Mikayla had ran and hugged Tara as tight as she could when the game ended. It had gone so well that for a minute Tara forgot about the fact that Stiles, Vivian, and Sydney weren't there to witness it.

Everyone was surrounding Scott and chanting 'State, State, State'. Scott took his helmet off and looked around which reminded Tara about their missing friends.

"Did Vivian or Sydney meet you up there?" Tara asked turning to Mikayla who shook her head and looked behind her.

"Stiles isn't here either." Mikayla said looking into the crowd of lacrosse players as they walked over to the locker room. Tara and Mikayla looked at each other and followed them.

"Stiles. Stiles!" They heard Scott say as they entered the hall. "Has anyone seen Stiles?"

Tara and Mikayla were about to meet up with him but were stopped when they saw him bump into Allison. Tara turned to Mikayla and sighed. "We are just gonna have to wait and see if they call."

"What?" Mikayla asked as if Tara was insane.

"Sometimes that what we have to do. They are all very smart and have gotten out of much worst." Tara reassured, she was worried out of her mind but she just thought of what Vivian would say.

"Okay. We'll wait."

Feeling powerless was one of the worst things. Sydney hates it. She's felt powerless a few times in her life. She felt it now. As she stood in the Beacon Hills high school showers next to Derek, he was holding his hand in pain and she was trying to ignore the ache in her leg or how hard it was starting to get to breath.

Everyone except for Scott had left the locker room. The lights had gone out and Peter had rolled a lacrosse ball to get Scott to walk to where they were. Scott had cautiously walked into view and his face filled with relief when he saw the two.

"Thank god! Where the hell have you been! Do you have an idea what's been going on?" Scott said walking into the shower, still with nothing but a towel on. Peter walked into view with a lacrosse net making Derek and Sydney tense. Scott turned in confusion and was met with Peter.

"I really don't get lacrosse." Peter said looking down at the stick.

"It was you.." Scott whispered as he came to the realization.

"When I was in high school, we played basketball. There's a real sport." Peter said ignoring Scott as he looked back over at the other two who where looking down. "Still, I read somewhere that lacrosse comes from native american tribes and that they played it to resolve conflict. Do I have that right?"

Peter threw the stick over his shoulder as he continued. "Well.. I have a little conflict of my own to resolve, Scott, Sydney." He said looking at the two fully for the first time. "But I need both of your help to do it."

"I'm not helping you kill people." Scott said glaring at Peter.

"Well, I don't want to kill all of them." Peter said like it was the most obvious thing. "Just the responsible ones, and that doesn't have to include..."

Peter looked over at Derek as if he was trying to remember the name, Derek sighed and looked over at Scott. "Allison."

"You're on his side?" Sydney asked back away towards Scott with a slight limp.

"Are you forgetting about the part where he killed your sister?" Scott said pointing at Peter.

"It was a mistake." Derek said after a minute of silence.

"What?" Sydney asked confounded.

"It happens." Derek said before Scott could say anything.

"What did he say to you when I was gone." Sydney said her voice low.

"I think you're getting the wrong impression of us." Peter said making them both look over at him. "We really just want to help you reach your full potential."

"By killing my friends." Scott said a hard edge to his voice.

"Sometimes the people closest to you.. can be the ones holding you back the most." Peter said looking between the two as he spoke.

"If they're holding us back from being psychotic nutjobs like you.. I'm okay with it." Sydney snapped back.

Peter stepped closer to the two, who were standing right next to each other. "Maybe.. you could try and see things... " He let his claws extend in front of their faces. "From my perspective."

He then put one hand on each of their necks and extended his claws into their necks before removing his hands and walking away as they convulsed on the ground.

Images flashed in Sydney's mind. Ones of two guys creeping up on the Hale house with gasoline in their hands. Of guys being thrown in fire pits. The bus driver and librarians murder. The Hale house being set on fire. Peter slowly healing. Peter in the Hale house as his family died. Peter killing his niece on the night of the full moon. Her friends and her finding the body.

After she finished seizing she moved to the closest bench, she was soon joined by Scott as they both took in what they had seen.

The nice silence was broken when Vivian and Stiles came running in. Vivian came to a stop in front of them, her eyes locked on Sydney. Stiles was a little more chatty.

"Dude- we have a huge problem." Stiles said as he slid a few inches from where Vivian had stopped.

"Trust me.." Scott said trailing off for a second.

"We know."

Mikayla has learned from a year of being friends with Stiles that when your friend says they have something interesting to do, you don't wear heels. Allison and Sydney walked ahead as the Martin sisters stumbled after them through the woods.

"Allison.. when you said you were gonna stop for an errand before we went shopping.. a five-mile hike in the woods was not what I was expecting." Lydia complained to Allison, who was lugging a large black bag on her shoulder. Sydney was nervous about what this could be and Mikayla just wanted to go shopping.

"Before I forget, I wanted to ask if you're okay with something." Allison said, Mikayla was too distracted to be worried about what she might say. "Mikayla asked me to the Winter Formal."

"Allison!" Mikayla squeaked as red filled her cheeks.

"Did she?" Lydia asked with a teasing smirk.

"Yeah. Just as friends." Allison explained as Mikayla died of mortification. "But I just wanted to make sure you're okay with it first."

"Sure." Lydia said with a small smile before turning to Mikayla.

"As long as it's just friends."

"Why did anyone let you get a license." Vivian asked as she held onto the side of Stiles car while he drove Scott, Tara, and herself into an abandoned parking lot.

"Yo." Scott said holding up a peace sign at Chris and Jackson as they stopped in front of Jackson's broken car.

"What's up." Stiles said after Scott with a dopey smile.

"Sup." Tara said from the right backseat.

"Hi." Vivian said finishing the introductions with a very fake polite smile.

"Is everything okay?" Scott asked already understand exactly what happened.

"Hey, Scott." Chris said next to the uncomfortable looking Jackson. "Your friend here was having car troubles. We're just taking a look."

"Wow." Vivian said the obvious sarcasm evident in her being.

"There's a shop right down the street. I'm sure they have a tow truck." Tara explained in her sweetest tone.

"Yeah. Want a ride?" Stiles asked leaning against the wheel. Scott opened the door wide and they all just stared at Jackson.

"Hey, come on, Jackson. You're way too pretty to be out here all by yourself." Stiles joked as they all saw the hesitation on Jackson's face.

Scott tilted his head down with a heavy gaze and that's what broke Jackson as he walked towards the car. Tara and Vivian moved over and Scott got out to let Jackson in.

"Hey, boys." Chris said while walking over to the car. He opened Jackson's car door and turned on the engine. "Told you I knew a few things about cars."

Chris drove away while Jackson and Scott, who were the only two outside, watched him with fear in their eyes.

"What, are you following me?" Jackson snapped when he was out of view. Scott closed the door and turned to him.

"Yes, you stupid freaking idiot." Scott snapped back as Stiles walked over to the two after getting out of the car. Vivian and Tara just leaned out the window looking at them. "You almost gave away everything right there!"

"What are you talking about?" Jackson asked confused by still angry.

"He thinks you're the second beta." Scott yelled as quiet as you could yell.

"What?" Jackson asked again now a little less angry, Vivian rolled her eyes.

"He thinks you're me!" Scott yelled as loud as possible, before slamming his hand into the jeep. Vivian and Tara jumping back.

"Dude, my jeep." Stiles said leaning forward slightly as if he would try and stop Scott.

"I can hear your heart beating a mile away- literally!" Scott ranted ignoring his three friends protests from earlier. "Now he thinks that there's something wrong, and now I have to keep an eye on you so he doesn't kill you too."

Scott then went to hit the jeep again this time harder and Stiles actually went to hold him back. Vivian leaning her whole body out the window to help. "Woah, woah, whoa, okay, okay, okay- how about we just take a step away from Stiles jeep."

"You know what, this is your problem, not mine, okay? I didn't say anything, which means you're the one that's gonna get me killed.. okay?" Jackson ranted back. "This is your fault."

Jackson pushed Scott hard up against the jeep which made Tara sigh. "We are in here!" Jackson just hit him again and Scott was getting mad.

"Yo, alright, yo, guys, stop. All right?" Stiles said stepping between the two, and effectively calming them both.

"When they come after you.. I won't be able to protect you. I can't protect anyone." Scott said loudly before looking over towards his friends.

"Why are you looking at us?" Vivian asked with her brows furrowed.

"You know what? Now you have to do it." Jackson said the rage back in his voice. "Give me what I want, and I will be fine protecting myself."

"No you won't." Scott yelled back. "Just trust me- All it does is makes things worse."

"Oh, yeah, really?" Jackson said "You know, you can hear anything you want and run faster than humanly possible. Sounds like a real hardship, McCall."

"Yeah, I can run really fast now.. except half the time, I'm running away from people to kill me!" Scott said earning an eye roll from Jackson. "And I can hear thinks like.. like my girlfriend telling people she doesn't trust me anymore."

"Ex-girlfriend." Vivian correct getting pushed back Tara.

"I'm not lying to you." Scott inisted, Jackson still looked unconvinced. "It.. ruins your life."

"It ruined your life. You had all the power in the world, and you didn't know what to do with it." Jackson said making Vivian actively try and get out of the car but being held back by Tara. "You know what it's actually like? It's like you turned 16 and someone bought you a Porsche when they should have started you out with a nice little Honda."

"Me? I drive a porsche."

They had finally stopped in some random place in the woods and Allison had taken out an arrow and an arrowhead. Sydney decided to take a few steps back after that.

"What does that do?" Lydia asked from where she stood right next to Allison with Mikayla on her other side.

"We're about to find out." Allison said studying the now fully formed arrow.

Allison readied her bow and with perfect precision shot it at a tree. When it hit the tree it sparked and started a small fire. Lydia jumped closer to Sydney, and Sydney looked over at Mikayla whose gaze was focused on the arrow.

"What the hell was that?" Mikayla asked looking over at Allison who was still looking at the tree.

"I don't know." Allison said with a scary smile on her face. Sydney really wasn't liking this.

Allison was now studying her bow as Lydia clapped her hands and took a step closer. "Well.. that was fun! Any more lethal weapons you wanna try out?"

Right when Lydia finished her sentence they all heard a twig snap in the distance. Sydney sighed when she realized who it was. More twigs snapped and they all looked around to see where it was coming from. Allison handed the bow to Mikayla with her eyes locked in one place. "Hold this."

"W-what? Why?" Lydia asked taking a step closer to her younger sister.

"Because I thought I heard something." Allison said letting go of the bow. Mikayla holding it in the correct position Allison had held it earlier, studying it.

"So.. what if you heard something?" Lydia asked fear laced in her voice.

"So.. I want to find out what that something is. Don't worry. You have Sydney." Allison said uninterested in her friends fear. "It's probably nothing."

"Well, what if that nothing is something and that something is something dangerous?" Lydia rambled causing Allison to stop, but not to turn.

"Shoot it."

Later when Sydney got home, she was with Stiles as he ran to their fridge. Grabbing the carton and taking a drink straight from it as his twin watched with judgement. "That's a communal carton."

They both then looked into the dining room and saw their father at the table doing some work. Stiles curiosity was peaked, he was always more interested in his father's job than Sydney. "Watcha doing?"

"Work." Noah said uninterested.

"Anything we can help with?" Stiles asked roping Sydney into his new ploy.

"You know, if you poured me an ounce of whiskey, that would be awfully nice." Noah said, Sydney looked over at her brother and saw the idea form in his head as he dashed to the bottle.

She walked over and sat at the table, Stiles closely following with a glass and a bottle. Stiles set them down and reached over the table at the papers in front of his father. "Any leads?"

"Hey!" Noah said slapping Stiles wrist to get him to pull his hand back.

"Ah.. ha." Stiles said flapping his wrist a few times while Sydney concealed a laugh.

"Serves you right." Sydney said with a smile.

"You know I can't discuss that with you." Noah reminded the ever persistent Stiles. Sydney went to pour him a glass but got a reminder. "Not too much."

Stiles and Sydney never were good with instruction. They filled almost the entire glass. It was empty after half an hour and Sydney felt like the devil himself as she sat there and watched.

"You know, Derek Hale would be a whole Hale of a lot.." Noah said stopping, the alcohol getting to him. "Hale of a lot?"

"Hell of a lot?" Sydney suggested softly.

"Hell. Yes." Noah confirmed. "He would be a hell of a lot easier to catch if we could get an actual picture of him."

"How do you not have a picture of him?" Stiles asked shocked.

"It's the weirdest thing. It's like every time we try to get a mugshot, it's like two.. laser beams were pointing at the camera." Noah explained as Stiles snatched the picture in question and showed it to Sydney. Two bright white circles were blocking most of the shot.

"Nice." Sydney said imaging what her school pictures would look like now.

"Oh, my god. Ohh!" Noah said taking off his glasses and rubbing his eyes. "That ounce hit me like a brick, and I have said way too much, and if either of you repeat that-"

"Dad it's us." Stiles said offended that his father would use the reasonable evidence that Sydney and Stiles would tell their friends. "We won't say anything. Come on."

Noah was too out of it to keep Stiles from grabbing a file and looking through the pictures. "See, the thing is they're all connected. I mean the bus driver and librarian that got killed, they were insurance investigators assigned to the Hale house fire."

"'Terminated under suspicion of fraud.'" Sydney read from the report in her dad's hand.

"Exactly." Noah said after they were done reading.

"Who else?" Stiles asked looking up at his dad.

"The video store clerk who got his throat slashed.. he's a convicted felon, history of arson." Noah explained further.

"What about the other two guys?" Sydney asked desperate to see how the other two pieces connected. "The guys who got killed in the woods?"

"Priors all over their records including.." Noah said trailing off as his children realized.

"Arson." They whispered at the same time.

"So maybe they had something to do with the fire." Stiles theorized as Sydney tried to remember if those guys from the picture were in the memories Peter showed Scott and her. Noah slammed his hand down on the table and Stiles straightened up. "Another shot?"

"No, no, no, no more." Noah said as Stiles grabbed the bottle.

"Dad, come on." Stiles said trying to convince him. "You work really hard, right? You deserve it."

Noah sighed and looked at his son. "Oh, my god, I'm gonna have such a hangover."

Noah motioned for more and Stiles compiled while Sydney thought about how grateful she was that she was an atheist and wouldn't feel the catholic guilt Tara would if she was here.

"You mean you're gonna have such a good night's sleep." Stiles said trying to get some of the guilt off of his back.

"You're going to hell."

"You first."

⭒☆━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━☆⭒

It had been an hour or two and Noah had just gotten worse. He had been playing with his cup and it almost fell off the table, with Sydney catching it before it could hit the ground.

"Ohh.. kids, there's just so many questions." Noah said out loud.

"Like what?" Stiles asked balancing his head on his hand.

"Like if Derek... wanted to kill everyone involved with the fire... then why start with his sister?" Noah said pouting in confusion. "I mean, she had nothing to do with it. Why make it look like some kind of animal did it? When the cougar ended up in the parking lot... I checked with animal control. You know the instances of wild animal reports were up to 70% over the past few months? It's like they're just going crazy, running out of the woods. I don't know."

"Or something's scaring them out." Stiles said a grim look on his face.

"Ah.. hmm." There was a long silence and Noah gazed at the two of them with a fond smile. "You know, I miss talking to you. It's like we never have time-"

"Dad, you know, I have to make a phone call- I'm sorry." Stiles rushed out of his seat. "I'm sorry. I'll be right back."

"I do. I miss it." He said as Sydney got up to follow Stiles, as he was dialing the number Noah said one more thing. "And I miss your mom."

They froze in their spot. Stiles stopped dialing and he turned back to Noah. Sydney just stared blankly at the wall.

"What'd you say?" Stiles asked quietly. Noah didn't even notice them and tried to pour another glass. Stiles stopped him and turned to see if Sydney had followed him.

But she was gone.
