Chapter Six

Petra rests in a web-hammock set up between two buildings, high up off the ground as she eats from a bento box and reads from a book on suit design she picked up in the U.A library. It is something she is going to have to think about. The suit is their image. What the public sees. It has to show the world what sort of hero they want to be. She's had some ideas in the last few months. She assumes most high school graduates going into a hero course will have. It's a right of passage for all would-be heroes. She has some ideas already for her own suit, but she's not sat down to actually work on the designs yet. She wanted to wait until she was sure she was going to get onto a hero course before she got her hopes up But she does have a general idea. Taking inspiration from the rest of her family whilst adding her own flare on it. Like all the Parkers that came before her. There are so many things to think about. So many things that go into making a good and effective suit.

.......

In the U.A. Faculty room, Petra lays on the faculty couch, her eyes closed, fast asleep. It's been a long day for her. And whilst she has thoroughly enjoyed herself, she is absolutely beat and she has no idea what the plan is for sleeping. She just ran off to enjoy herself, she didn't even stop to think about that. A clatter nearby has her jerking awake, her head snapping around to look for the cause. It's Shota. He cringes a little staring down at Petra's glass of water that is now all over the floor. Shota picks up the knocked-over glass and sets it on the table.

"Dad?" She asks him. He lets out a breath and then he sits on the coffee table across from her.

"I didn't mean to wake you" He whispers.

"Hmm...well I didn't mean to fall asleep" She pushes herself up to sit upright and rubs at her eyes. "What time is it?"

"Not that late" He assures her. "I thought you might be hungry" He picks up the suit textbook from the table and turns it around in his hand before setting it down again. "There is a yakiniku place down the road" He offers as he holds out her hoodie to her. Petra stands and stretches her arms over her head before she takes the offered clothing item from him. She looks at him softly as he adjusts his scarf. This whole day just resting gently on her shoulders. He didn't have to do any of this for her. She suddenly hugs him tightly. Shota looks down at her, surprised by the intensity of her affection here. It's not that she doesn't hug him, but she's a teenager and it's been a while since she's wanted to hug him like this. Curled into his chest and clutching to him. He touches the back of her head softly. This isn't a bad-time hug. This is an excited good-times hug. She's clearly enjoyed herself. He did the right thing in surprising her with this whole weekend. It's cheered her up. Taken some of that stress from her. She's been so worried waiting for her exam results, and training for the upcoming entrance exams, both the physicality of them and the written aspect. She's barely had time to relax or do something fun. It is a generally very stressful time. That period between final high school exams and college entrance exams. It's a stressful limbo for them. "I take it you like yakiniku?" He asks her softly, a slight teasing tone to his voice. He knows this hug has nothing to do with yakiniku. She takes a deep breath and nods into his chest as she closes her eyes, sinking into his embrace. She learnt that she has never shown him just how grateful she is for him. Or perhaps she never even realised just how much he has done, does do for her. Having pro-heroes for parents is hard, but Shota has always been there for her when she needed him, and even when she didn't know that she needed him or his help. She hopes he knows how much she appreciates everything he has ever done for her. Being a single dad to a grieving pre-teen, whilst grieving himself, must have been really hard, and he dealt with it really well.

.......

Peta uses her chopsticks to push around a slice of meat cooking on the grill between her and her father as she animatedly tells him all about her swinging, not knowing that he, of course, watched it all unfolding from the surveillance room. Whilst he has every faith in her and her quirk, he wanted to keep an eye on her, just in case something went wrong and she ended up getting hurt. It didn't happen, thankfully, so instead, he got to watch his daughter smile and laugh and have fun. And it's been a long time since he'd seen her that happy and that excited. Her mother's death was hard on her. As it is on most kids. And then she reached an age where school became about results and exams and trying to get into a good college. She's been so busy trying to set up her future that she's not sat back and enjoyed something as much as she enjoyed today. That's what he wanted when he put this together. A chance for her to enjoy her quirk before it becomes all about training it into a formidable tool in pro-hero work.
