Chapter Nineteen

Having coffee with Hideo was nice. Perhaps not what Amani tried to imply it was going to be. Because it wasn't a date. It didn't feel like a date. Not that Petra's actually been on one to know how it is meant to feel. But it has to feel a certain way. Hideo was nice enough and she does like him but she doesn't think she is interested in anything more than friendship. Which he seemed to understand and accept. She did get a very nice cup of coffee out of it and a new friend so it wasn't a failure in her eyes. As she returns home, Petra finds that Shota is sitting on the couch, a mug of coffee clasped in his hands, to stop him from fidgeting. Banjo is curled up asleep against his side. Petra closes the door behind her and Shota sets his mug onto the coffee table.

"How was it?" He asks, trying to play off that he hasn't sat waiting for her to come back. That he wasn't worrying about her even though it was only coffee. Especially after the attack at the school. Which they still know very little about as Lizard is refusing to talk to them about his actions and plans or who he is working for, because he has to be working for someone as he has no connection to Petra or Cindy that they can find. It means that there is still a threat to Petra out there, somewhere, looming.

"It was coffee" She answers as she shrugs out of her coat. "It was nice...."

"And...the boy?" He asks and sits up a little. "Is...is that something you are going to pursue?" She shrugs and sets her coat onto the peg at the door. He waits for her to figure out the answer. She takes a deep breath and sits on the couch across from him.

"Maybe" She answers. "But not with Hideo" She adds. "He is nice, but I don't think I am interested in him that way"

"Are you interested in...dating other boys?" He asks her. She chuckles a little and looks at him softly.

"I have more important things to concentrate on," She answers. "Boys are way down that list..." He smiles a little and nods. That he can accept. Petra has always taken her studies seriously. It's why she doesn't have a lot of friends, Amani was the only one who fought for Petra. That managed to pull her away from her studies. That won. Amani was determined to make a friend in Petra. And it is a good thing, because in that school, during the attack, Amani had her back and if she hadn't been there, then Petra might have been seriously hurt. He supposes the more friends that she has, the more people are looking out for her if anything like that happens again. He should be encouraging her not worrying about boys. He should trust her. She pushes herself to her feet, patting her knees. "I'm going to call Amani, let her know how it went" Shota nods and watches as she walks away. Banjo hops up and follows after her.

.......

At her desk, Petra picks up her soldering iron to begin repairs on her pincers. Considering that they kind of got broken in her fight with Lizard. For now, she'll repair these and then come up with something better. If they can be broken with force then she needs to change that. She herself is strong, and there are plenty of other fighters out there with enhanced strength. Her pincers need to be able to aid her in battle, which can only come if they are as strong as she is. Fixing these now means she has the whole summer to work with them. She has six weeks before her time at UA begins, that's either going to be six weeks of relaxation or six weeks of training and studying. She can either take the time to herself or prepare herself for her first year of college. She knows that Amani wants to do something so it isn't all work, but Petra would like to continue with her training. To not slack. Six weeks is a long time. And she can get a lot of work done, on her suit, on her support items, on herself, in those six weeks. If she focuses. Her bedroom door opens as Amani lets herself into the room. She felt bad after their conversation and what she perceives as Petra's failed date so she rushed over with candy. She rolls her eyes fondly seeing Petra engrossed in her project. Because it is so like Petra.

"Stop working" Amani scolds as she flops onto Petra's bed. "I came to cheer you up"

"Why do I need cheering up?" Petra asks as she continues to work on the pincer.

"Because your date went badly" Petra snorts.

"No, it didn't" She argues. "It was fine, but I'm not interested" Amani narrows her eyes as she studies her friend trying to work out if she is lying or telling the truth. Petra isn't really a liar though. White lies, yes. Innocent lies. Which this could be. Amani hums a little and sits up.

"Well, still...stop working so we can hang out" She argues and Petra sighs, setting her tool down to turn her chair to face her friend. "I have some news anyway, didn't want to tell you over the phone"

"You're not going to UA?" Petra asks, suddenly panicking that her friend isn't going to be joining her at college. Amani shakes her head and smiles.

"No, it's not that" She assures her. "My mom, she wants to spend the summer break with me, so we're going on holiday, six weeks in Honshu...." Petra lets out a breath and tilts her head. Disappointed that she won't get to spend time with her friend over the summer, but also happy, because she knows that Amani and her mother are not flush with money, and have never been on holiday, so she knows that this is a big deal for Amani. She can't begrudge her friend this chance, even if it means she won't have anyone to spend time with. She supposes she could call up Hideo and spend time with him, building up that friendship.
