Chapter 3: Party Gone Wrong
Sebastian dresses me in a favorite black dress as the party is about to begin soon. This party is going to be filled with Nobleman and fancy people that I don't even know. "You seem nervous, Milady." Sebastian notices my silence.
"This is my first noble party with other nobles. . . Wouldn't it be better if I stayed in my room for the night?" I suggest, having second thoughts about attending the party. "I am use to staying out of sight and out of trouble. . . What if something happens?"
"A lady should not isolate herself in a bedroom when she has been given an opportunity to the outside world." Sebastian smiles at me. "I understand that you are use to your original lifestyle, but this does take time getting use to."
"I guess. . . But I am hardly given any opportunity to go outside, or experience the outside life. Do you think I will make a good impression of myself, or for Ciel at the least?"
"I think you will be fine, Milady. The Young Master has his ways of throwing a good party for the guest."Sebastian stands up from straightening my dress from the bottom and holds out his hand to me. "Now then, a party awaits us."
I take the butler's hand as he escorts me to the stairway where Ciel waits for me. Ciel holds out his hand to me, so that he can make a good impression of himself.
When I look down the staircase, I see a lot of nobleman waiting for the party to begin. I never attended these parties, so I don't know how to act. "The Earl is so. . .young. I say, who is that Madam with him?" A man with brown hair speaks as our eyes meet.
"That young girl lives with the Earl. Her name is Moon Coleman." A China man replies to the other. I think his name is Lau.
"Moon. . .Coleman? That name sounds familiar."
"Of course, it does. She was one of the missing children when Noah's Arc Circus was in town. Turns out the poor child was kept against her will and was force to do unspeakable things. But, the Earl Phantomhive decided to adopt the child, so now she lives here with him."
"Oh, my. What a tragic tale."
I forgot to mention. My story came out in the papers, so now people can't stop talking about my tragic tale. Whenever they see me, they whisper amongst themselves while giving me sad expression.
Truth is, I do not wish for their pity because I find it troublesome and a nuisance. I don't want people to think of me as a defenseless little girl. . .
"Hello and welcome. I would like to thank you all for coming to my little party. I am the Earl of this fine estate, Ciel Phantomhive. I know that we shall have an excellent time. I look forward into greeting each of you once dinner begins. Whether you are an acquaintance or somebody that I am meeting for the first time." Ciel does his introduction while walking down the stairs with me still holding his hand.
I say, he does know how to keep a smile on his face when it comes to gatherings. From the days I've been with him, he's not fond of getting out much. He says it's bothersome.
The guest of honor, Gerorg Von Siemens, arrives with Charles Grey, and Ciel and I go to the dining room along with the other guest.
"I hope you are enjoying the party, kind Sir." I say, making my appearance to Arthur Conan Doyle. I smile at him as I stand in front of him.
"I am-" His eyes widen when he sees me in front of him. "Oh, Miss Moon Coleman, it's you!" He stands up from his chair, surprised to see me.
"You sound surprise to see me."
"I quite am, yes! I mean, you are kidnapped- or you were- your story said that- oh, please, forgive me!" He bows his head in an apologetic manner, making me giggle.
"It's quite alright. No need to apologize. By now everyone knows my story with the circus, so I am use to the gossip."
"Well then, I do have a few questions for you, if you don't mind me asking."
"By all means, go ahead and ask. I will try to answer them the best that I can. But I hope this party is to your liking so far." I sit next to Sir Arthur.
"Is this your first time attending to one of these parties?" He asks the first question.
"Yes." I nod my head. "So forgive me if I do come off a bit weird, or too talkative. Is this your first party too?"
"At a nobleman party, yes."
"Interesting. Your name is Arthur Conan Doyle. . . Now I remember that name. I believe I read one of your novels. They are most fascinating."
"You read one of my novels?!" He jumps out of his chair.
"Of course. Why not? Reading is a hobby of mine." I smile once more. "Now that I'm living here, I can read all the books that I desire, and out of all of them, yours was the best I've read so far."
"It was?! Well, I am honored." Sir Arthur blushes while rubbing the back of his head.
"I am glad that you feel that way."
"I-If I may ask, how did a young orphan like yourself have a lifestyle like this? From what I've read from the papers, you were kidnapped by the circus, then rescued by the Earl Phantomhive, and now you're living here with him."
"Well, to be frank, this didn't happen just by a snap of someone's fingers. . . It took time getting use to it." I look down at my lap with a small frown. "At first, I was uncertain of what would happen to me. I kept asking myself, would I be sent back to the same orphanage I use live at, or perhaps become a maid at this estate. Or maybe be adopted by a couple that I didn't know. . . With all the possibilities that were filling my head, Lord Phantomhive allowed me to stay in his manor after hearing my side of the story. . ."
"It must have been hard for you. . ." Sir Arthur frowns.
"It was. . . Every night I would wake up crying, having nightmares of those times I was with the circus, and sometimes I would get paranoid about who's watching me. But Lord Phantomhive took great care of me during my recovery." I smile at the memories.
"He gave me all the books that I wanted to read, the finest clothes I could wear, and the jewels that I admired. But none of those things weren't better than the care he has showed me. Ciel may seem like a heartless young boy, but once you get to know him, he shows a soft spot. But, don't tell him I told you, okay?" I press my pointer finger to my lips while giving Arthur a wink.
"O-Oh, yes! R-Right!" He stutters.
"It seems you two are getting along nicely." Ciel walks over to us, having Arthur jump out of his skin.
"Speak of the devil. We were just talking about you, Ciel." I smile at him and stand out of my chair. "I guess I'll leave you to chat with our guest. Please excuse me."
"Continue to enjoy the party, Moon." Ciel and I smile at each other before I walk away, joining the other nobles in the room.
"Ah, there you are. We were just mentioning you." I blink when a woman smiles down at me.
"Pardon?" I blink with confusion.
"Allow me to introduce myself. I am Irene Diaz."
"The famous Opera singer and Actress. I've heard about you. I am Moon Coleman. The pleasure is all mine." I take a bow.
It doesn't take long to talk about my story with the circus. It is a nuisance to talk about it over, and over again. Now I know how Ciel feels when he is at these gatherings. Talking about business and saying the same words to everyone he encounters.
"What a fine lady you are, Lady Coleman~" The guest of honor smirks at me as he makes his way towards me.
"Sir Georg Von Siemens, what a pleasure to meet you." I take a step back as he gets a little bit too close. From the scent he's giving out, he reeks of alcohol. I think he's had one too many drinks tonight.
He's drunk.
"The pleasure is all mine~" Lord Siemens snakes his arm around my waist, pulling me close to him.
"Lord Siemens, You are a bit too close." I put both of my hands on his chest, trying to push him away.
"But look at you, my dear. How can a man resist your charms?~" He moves closer, with his alcoholic breath. I gasp when I feel his hand grab my bottom, making me blush hard.
"Release me at once!" I scream and push Lord Siemens into the table behind him. He growls at me, easily angered.
"You swine!" He grabs a glass of wine and throws at me, yet I feel nothing. When I open my eyes, I see Ciel standing in front of me soaking wet.
"Ciel!" I exclaim.
After Sebastian made a wine tower, the guest are distracted and Ciel takes me to the sidelines to assure my safety. "Are you alright, Moon? Did he hurt you?"
"I am alright. . . I'm sorry that you had to be the one to get dunked on. . ." I frown and look down at the floor. What I was more worried about that was that Mari almost took over my body when I shouted at Lord Siemens.
I felt my eyes glow, same as hers, when I shouted. I wasn't sure if she was trying to protect me or take over. Either way, it would have been bad if I let her take over.
"I am truly sorry, Ciel. I made a bad impression of you. . ." I frown.
"No tears now. It's alright." Ciel gently wipes a tear from my eye, making me flinch a bit. I get all shaken up when a man touched me. . . It reminds me of Kelvin when he bended me at his will. . . The feeling never left me and I am scarred with it. . .
"I'm sorry. . ." I apologize.
"You were scared. All you could do was defend yourself. It's alright, Moon. Je suis là. {I'm right here.}
"Je vous remercie." {Thank you.} Ciel and I smile at each other.
"How adorable. . ." Arthur gawks at Ciel and I, which has us blinking at him. He understands French? That's a nice surprise.
Ciel and I place our pointer fingers on our lips and say to Arthur, "Shhh~"
It's 11 o' clock and the guest of honor has tired himself out. He's fallen asleep from all the alcohol he drank. I'm tired and I'm about ready to go to bed. Sadly, this rainy night isn't going to be stopping anytime soon.
I ended up chatting with Arthur about his books and my time here at the mansion until I began to yawn a few times. "You must be tired." He smiles at me.
"I am. I rather be talking with you all night, but I'm afraid that Sebastian won't allow it." I smile back.
"Sebastian?"
"The butler." I recall.
"Oh, right! Of course." Arthur rubs the back of his neck with a slight chuckle.
"Believe it or not, I'm in still in recovery. So it's his job to make sure that I am well rested. Too bad I can't enjoy my time with you as much as I wanted."
"Milady, it's time for you to retire." Sebastian stands next to me while bowing.
"Well, I must be going now. Have a good night, good sir." I stand out of my chair and bow my head to him.
"Yes, have a good night, Miss Coleman. Sleep well." Arthur smiles at me one more time before I head to bed.
But then an hour later, I hear a terrifying scream. . .
