19 » night trip

The clock struck midnight yet Chaerin had this sudden craving for ice cream to the point where she couldn't even wait for a few more hours until the sun went up from the horizon.

Hopping off of her bed, she slipped an oversized sweater―still wearing her pyjamas beneath it―grabbing her wallet afterwards before going to the entrance to put on her shoes.

As quite as possible, she opened the door, trying to not make a creaking sound so Taehyung wouldn't wake up. Carefully, she tip toed outside while checking Taehyung's bedroom door once in a while, making sure the said boy was still sound asleep.

After confirming that it was safe to proceed, she quickly closed the apartment door and walked on the corridor, making her way to the stairs since she was too impatient to wait for the elevator.

Once she reached the first story of the building, she passed the guard post, giving smiles to the half-asleep guards with sound from television attempted to keep them up. Having the night shift certainly wasn't the best thing ever in a life of security.

She walked on the sidewalk, kicking pebbles out of sheer boredom while passing the poor lighted street. There were only a few street lamps which needed a new bulp since the current ones were flickering, giving a creepy effect just like in horror movies. Fortunately, that didn't shield Chaerin's desire to eat ice cream. Her mind was filled with that certain food and even apocalypse couldn't stop her.

A few minutes passed, she finally arrived at a nearby convenience store and immediately went in through the main door.

The inside was really quite―unlike during the daylight. There were no people who asked her what she needed nor tried to advertise certain product to her. Some people were standing near the magazine stall while having their earphones plugged, enjoying the tranquility of the store in night time. Even the cashier person was half-sleeping, head dangling freely above the machine―would wake up when their head hit the said device. It would be the best if he stayed awake, but the maximum temperature of the air conditioner and the quite surroundings were definitely effective to lull someone into a deep slumber.

Chaerin went to the cooler that the shop provided and grabbed what she's been craving for and took it to the counter. But when she put it on the table, at the same time, another hand put a packet of potato chip on the table.

Chaerin puffed her cheeks. "Excuse me but I was―Jimin?" She was already prepared with the remonstrance she was about to spit, but all the words she had composed immediately vanished when she found out it was Jimin who did that.

"Yo, Chaerin," he casually greeted her, waving his hand and raised an eyebrow. "What is this cute little lady doing in this late hour hmm?" Jimin questioned, changing his tone into a perverted one as a joke.

Chaerin laughed at his attempt to act like a perverted uncle because it was funny how his voice didn't synchronize with his baby face. "Stop it, Jimin. You look so stupid like that!" She tried to be quite as possible so the people there wouldn't be distracted. But even so, she still earned cold glares from people around her―except Jimin and the sleeping cashier guy.

Jimin pouted at his friend's comment. "Did I sound that bad?" He asked playfully and Chaerin shook her head with a smile.

"Anyways, are you alone or?" Jimin asked, he wanted to ask if Taehyung was around or not. But even by thinking his name, Jimin's chest was already overwhelmed with jealousy. He actually wanted to stay away from Chaerin so that he could forget his feelings. Sadly, whenever they met even during times like this and have a small talk, it was enough to make him head over heels for her once again.

"No. In fact, I sort of ran away because I really wanted to eat ice cream. Taehyung wouldn't allow me to go out during night times and maybe would nag me for living an unhealthy life." Chaerin rubbed herself at the goosebumps she got when the picture of Taehyung giving her lectures came into her head. Although it wasn't that bad, still, bickering with Taehyung was something she wanted to keep away from her menu.

After hearing her explanation, Jimin nodded and pondered for a while. "I'll. . . Walk you home," he said.

"Eh? No! That would be―"

"Chaerin, I'm not offering, I'm telling your what'll I do and my decision is final. Even if you refuse, I'd still follow you anyway." Jimin smiled. She was surprised on how persistent he was but soon sighed in defeat and nodded her head.

"Okay, but before you do your night trip please let me scan the barcodes and pay for your things. After that, you can get lost from here and I won't bother you two anymore." The cashier guy who's now wide awake because of the fuss they created, reminded lazily as a yawn escaped his parted lips.

They apologized to the guy and letting him to do his job. After that, they exited the store and once again ventured through the night street, enjoying the live concert of the crickets and cicadas, along with other random yet calming sounds around them; like the swaying sound of leaves on the tree. The night wasn't that windy, so the sound was rather calming―moving in a slow tempo, no rushing. Everything that revolved around them was just enjoyable.

Minutes changed into second for Jimin.

Each second that passed in that journey was recorded inside his head vividly. He wanted to remember how her eyes glisten in happiness while licking the ice cream, it glowed better than the street lamps in his opinion. If he had the power to control the time, he would've repeated the scene all over again. A second they spent together meant a treasure for Jimin. Imagine if they really got together, maybe Jimin would see himself as the richest person in the whole world, because that girl was literally his everything. Sadly, the dreamy moment stopped once they reached the apartment block.

They bid goodbyes at the entrance. Chaerin turned around and walked into the building while Jimin still had his eyes on her, until the light embraced her body completely―preventing him from seeing his love.

His eyes trailed up, admiring the building as his heart was cracking slowly.

Under that roof was his love living happily with her lover. While his position was here―outside the apartment where he couldn't even see her, watching her from afar.

As if on cue, the clouds began crying from one, two, and three tears, now it's flooding the whole place, blending perfectly with the tears that fell down from his eyes.
