Chapt. 27 ~ The Trancy Manor

"Underground~
Underground~
Welcome to the Underground
You know that we run this town
Welcome to the Underground~"

Mute sang as she gazed at the full moon. Her eyes were half open as she sighed to herself before turning her gaze to the moon again. "Another night of no sleep I take it?" Miko walked over with her arms folded. Her fox ears and tail were exposed since it was the middle of the night, and they were in the comfort of their own home.

Mute shook her head, answering Miko's question. "What are you doing up?" She asked.

"I couldn't sleep either for some reason. But losing one night of sleep isn't going to hurt...is the least I can say for myself." Miko smirked as she glanced at Mute with the corner of her eye. Mute could only roll her eyes in response. "Remind me again why you decided to stay? I thought we would be settled in elsewhere by now. The city didn't burn down as much as we thought it would." Miko shrugged her shoulders.

"You agreed to stay with me." Said Mute.

"Because somebody needs to keep you in check." Miko poked Mute's temple while sticking her tongue out. "So? What's next?"

"Hmmm..." Mute turned her gaze back at the sky before shrugging her shoulders.

"Well, let me know once you come up with something. After all, something is bound to happen with your curiosity...or by fate." Miko smirked before turning in for the night. Mute watched her friend walk off before turning back at the night sky.

"You're listening now cause there's blood in the water
We'll show you around, but don't mess with the monsters..."

She began to sing again. It was going to be a long night since Mute wasn't planning on sleeping. 'What is there to do?' She thought before sighing to herself. There were many things she could do. Roam around, cause chaos, sing, dance, or mess with the humans who could be out and about.

It had been a long while since her last adventure. But she never thought back to it. Those moments and events died shortly. After all, Mute wanted to forget...so many things. She never wondered what ever happened to the human boy, Ciel, and the demon, Sebastian. She didn't stop to think about Undertaker and when she was going to see him again. Nor did she think about the other people she had met.

Although it felt short, what reason was there for her to keep such memories?

Mute yawned out of boredom and continued to look at the starry sky with the moon accompanying them. There were many things she could be doing, but her spirit wasn't into it. The night was awfully silent and so were her thoughts... Until,

"Hmm?" She glanced to her right, looking into an empty dark space.

The sensation felt cold, even though the temperature was just fine. Deep down she felt something else. Not the aura she felt when first encountering Sebastian. There was a mixture of bitterness in between. It sparked her interest.

Mute looked back at where Miko had walked off to before disappearing into the night. She followed the aura without a problem because it was clear as day to her. Mute found herself in front of another mansion. She didn't realize that this one was further out from where she was staying. It was further out from the city.

Mute placed her hand on the door and her hand instantly began to shake. Something much darker lied here. She could feel it, and it was new to her. Mute didn't, nor couldn't understand why her hand was trembling. But this only made her curiosity grow.

Looking upon the mansion again, her eyes caught sight of a pair of bright blue ocean eyes. A young boy with blonde hair, wearing a white long sleeve gown. Her gaze pierced as if she were deep in thought, even though they showed no emotion in them. Yet the two never broke eye contact.

Alois gawked at the girl standing at the front door. Right away he knew that she wasn't human> it wasn't her pale skin or the way that she looked. It was the aura that he could feel from her. Dark, cold, and sinister... Mute's impressions always came off as murky.

'And who might you be?' Mute wondered as she continued to stare at the boy at the window. She could tell something was off about the boy. She knew Alois was human, but she was sensing something else coming from him. 'It feels familiar...'  Usually, Mute would have fled by now, and she didn't know what was making her stay where she stood. 'Ah... Another one.'

Mute turned on her heels and was gone in a blink. But she didn't go anywhere. Just out of Alois's sight. But now, with her gone, she was all he could think about throughout the night. 'Who was that?' He questioned before returning to bed.

Alois could barely focus on anything the next day. He was slumped against his chair as he sat at his desk with a dull expression. He was so tuned out that he didn't pay attention to what Claude was talking about. "Is there something troubling you, Your Highness?" Claude noticed his master spacing out.

"Who was she?..." He muttered out.

"She?" Claude repeated.

"Somebody was in front of the mansion last night. A girl." Alois stated. Claude stared at his master for a while, wondering who he was talking. Being a nocturnal creature, he didn't see nor sense Mute anywhere near the mansion. Neither did Hannah or the Demon Triplets. "She was very beautiful too..." He added. 'I wonder if she will ever come back.'

Throughout the day Alois wondered about Mute. Even with his cousin Viscount Druitt, his uncle, and other visitors, Mute never left his thoughts. But, from time to time, he could have sworn he saw her around the manor. Hiding in plain sight, or within the shadows...

Meanwhile, Mute was roaming the Trancy manor to see what made her come here. Now that she was inside the aura was intoxicating, and she didn't know why. And she wasn't hating it. She felt some sort of comfort. Mute was well aware about the demons living amongst this mansion, so she made sure to keep herself hidden. Even though Alois did see her a few times, Mute continued to hide herself. Only Alois was able to catch sight of her. Not, Claude or the other servants.

Mute sighed while appearing in the cellar before opening her eyes. 'Nothing but gold. Because they are nobleman, they have to show off.' She walked along the corridor before glancing up at the shelf. New Moon Drop was what the box read. Mute cocked an eyebrow as she reached up to grab it. But, before she could even touch it, her body disappeared within a black mist as golden silverware was thrown at her. Thanks to her senses she was able to avoid it.

"I don't remember inviting you inside, Young Miss." Claude said as he got another set of golden silverware ready. Mute's body appeared whole as she glared at the demon. She didn't have to guess and figure out what he was. His featured reminded her of Sebastian.

'It's like looking at a twin.' She thought with disgust. Without another second, she released her shadows, making the cellar completely dark to make her escape.

Mute found herself in the hallway, and right in front of Alois. He blinked before his eyes widened. "You're here!" He exclaimed with a smile as he grasped her hands. "It really is you! From last night!" Confusion was written all over Mute's face. She couldn't figure out why Alois was so glad to see her. Then it hit her. Her eyes became lifeless once again.

'Ah... That's right. I remember why I came here.' She dryly smiled. 'Because his sorrow is far too great to ignore.'  Alois couldn't help but smile when seeing the woman again. Mute, on the other hand, kept the dry smile on her face as she stared into the boy's eyes. 'His sorrow is far too great to ignore...' She repeated herself, lost in thought. 'His aura led me to him... Bittersweet.'

Before Alois opened his mouth to say something, a loud knock was heard from the front door. This caused Mute to disappear from Alois's sight. Claude answered the door to see a tall man in a tailcoat, nearly covering his entire appearance. Mute appeared on the chandelier and eavesdropped on the conversation. "Look at you! You look like a drowned rat! Although... You do smell very nice. This man will be staying with us! Understood, Claude?"

It didn't take Mute to figure out that it was Sebastian hiding in that tailcoat. His voice alone was enough to recognize. 'But why is he here?' Was all she could question.

After dinner, Sebastian was left alone in a guest bedroom with a trunk sitting beside his feet. Suddenly he reached his arm out and caught Mute's clawed hand before she could attack him. "I was wondering when you were going to reveal yourself to me, Milady." Sebastian smirked while lifting his head to take a look at his fated mate.

Mute's expression was dead and lifeless as always as she stared at the demon. She didn't look happy nor pleased to see him again. Her intentions right then and there were to kill him, or at least land a good hit. Sebastian pulled Mute onto his lap, wrapping one arm around his waist tightly and the other still holding her wrist. Mute's face flushed at this and turned her head to the side to avoid his gaze. She couldn't see his face due to the tailcoat, but she could feel his eyes on her.

"You don't look very pleased to see me." Sebastian continued to smirk. He loved how she tried to hurt him just now. It was her primal instinct that made him get excited. As much as she was prey to him, he loved how she tried to turn the tables and get the upper hand. Sebastian held Mute closer to him, and Mute's face turned a deep red at the close contact. Their bodies were practically against each other.

'What are you doing here?' Is what she wanted to ask him. There was a reason why he came all the way here. And she had a feeling that it wasn't for her. Something felt off about him. But his possessiveness and obsession with her remained. Mute tried to pull her away from his grip but struggled in vain.

"I've missed you so much, my darling~" He whispered huskily in her ear. Mute gritted her teeth together to prevent the shaky breath escaping her lips. "I thought it would be an eternity to search for you again. I assumed you had run off." His lips touched the skin of her neck, grazing his teeth, wanting to bite her, just to taste her again. To him it felt like ages since he's had her in his grasp.

"We can't do this here!" She managed to speak out, her eyes now shut tightly Her eyes blinked when landing on the giant trunk that was lying beside the bed. Mute eyed the trunk, wondering what could be inside, and why Sebastian had it with him. Her struggling had stopped the moment she eyed the trunk.

"Look at me." Sebastian grabbed her chin, but her eyes stayed locked onto the trunk. Sebastian followed her gaze and smirked, "Curious?"

As soon as the door opened Mute vanished into a black mist, darting towards the closet. Mute peeked through the small crack from the closet doors to watch. It was the maid, Hannah. "Some more water for you, sir." She said with the vase filed with water in her hands. She walked over to the dresser beside the bed Sebastian sat on. Mute stared at the maid's features, ignoring the bandage covering one of her eyes. But, something about Hannah felt off to Mute, yet she couldn't put her finger on it.

"So! What's in that trunk of yours!?" Mute blinked at the sound of Alois's voice. She had dozed off and didn't realize that Hannah had left the room, and Alois had entered. He was putting his hands all over the trunk while he asked Sebastian what could be inside.

"There is something that lies beneath this mansion. Take it to me, and I will show you what's inside this trunk?" Sebastian smirked within his tailcoat. Alois smiled and giggled. Mute noticed the smirk on Sebastian's face had quickly faded. Going down to the cellar, Alois went to the far end of the shelf of the winery and tea. "There it is." Sebastian gestured his head to a certain tea box.

"What? This? It's just tea." Alois stated.

'Does he know?' Mute thought while she hid in the shadows of the cellar. Her eyes went back to the trunk, and then back at New Moon Drop. 'Don't tell me... Is Ciel-'

"That's right. Fist you'll hand over that trunk." Claude stood behind them before throwing a dozen of golden knives toward Sebastian, ripping the tailcoat in the process. "Sebastian Michaelis."

'Cloak!' Mute waved her hand forward, casting a blanket like shadow over them. "Run!" She shouted at Sebastian. The two of them ran up the stairs as Alois shouted orders at Claude. As Sebastian ran, the trunk began to open, causing him to stumble to the side. The trunk was half open, revealing who was inside.

"Ciel Phantomhive?!... I finally have you! You're mine!" Alois said with wide eyes and a smile on his lips.

Mute stared at Ciel's motionless body. He looked dead, but his skin wasn't pale. The body looked hollow. Something was wrong. But her question would have to wait for another time. Mute had stayed and lingered long enough. It was time to leave. And so, she was gone within a black mist, and returned home for the remainder of the night.
