Chapt. 22 ~ What Would You Know?
Days had passed since the incident with the angel, Ash, at the church, and the conversation with Undertaker and Miko. Mute had yet to return to Sebastian, and to her surprise, Sebastian hadn't come looking for her yet. It was almost odd to Mute because she is use to Sebastian chasing her like the prey she is to him. But, she was being taken good care of by her dear friend, Miko.
During this time, Mute couldn't get her encounter with Ash. What he did to her and what he made her remember. 'A living nightmare...' Mute hissed in her head as she closed her eyes.
"Dwelling through your thoughts? You know you can always talk them out with me. We're friends, aren't we?" Miko sat beside Mute while sitting down a cup of tea on the coffee table. "Or are you thinking about returning to your mate?~"
"As if." Mute communicated telepathically with a blank stare.
"Hahaha!"
"Don't you have to go out and meet with somebody today or something?"
"Not today. I did everything I needed to do while you were away. So I have plenty of time on my hands."
"Lucky you." Mute said sarcastically.
"Are you going to go see him again? It has been a few weeks since then."
"....I don't know." Mute shrugged her shoulders.
"He hasn't been that worried for you if he hasn't come looking for you yet. But then again, he is with a child so it makes sense that he cannot leave his position. Like a dog on a leash."
'That's exactly what he is.' Mute stated. She went back to dozing off into space. Should she go back to see her destined mate? 'Why has it been...lonely? Do I really miss him?' But she didn't have much of choice. Sooner or later, Sebastian was going to find her again. "It'll be tiring." Mute thought out loud.
"What?" Miko looked at Mute.
"Nothing." With that, she left in a misty exit. But she didn't return back to the mansion. She went to take a stroll in the city since nighttime was approaching. As she always did, she went to a random rooftop and stared down at the humans below until the night had arrived. 'It's not the same... Why did I have to run into him out of all people?' She sighed.
Before suddenly being tied to a demon to be the destined mate, Mute was a trapped but still free woman. She just never learned how to let the past go. A lot can take a toll on a person, and their mental health. During the time she has spent with Sebastian, there hasn't been a moment where she didn't feel safe. Through and through all Sebastian has done is try and keep Mute safe. Yet there are still some miscommunications along the way.
"They're carving my name in the grave again
The flowers are fresh, and their faces wet
My body has died, but I'm still alive
Look over your shoulder, I'm back from the dead"
Mute began to sing as she closed her eyes. She levitated from the roof she was in and began to walk the streets. Her fingertips softly traced against the brick wall, and her eyes were fixated on the tiles on the ground.
"I don't wanna be carrying the weight on my shoulders
Death has come to me, kissed me on the cheek
Gave me closure
Immortal by design
I'll be meeting you here every time~"
Mute blinked and stopped in her tracks. She slowly lifted her head up to find herself back at the Mansion. 'It seems like no matter where I go, I always find myself back here. Back to him... I still don't get it.' She sighed with her thoughts and went inside. Mute appeared inside one of the guest bedroom to find it completely empty. Then again, it didn't matter where she ended up when she transports from one to place. As long as she is at the destination that is on her mind.
The bedroom door opened, and Mute turned to see Sebastian entering inside the room. He sensed her presence within the manor. "Sebas-" Mute couldn't finish her sentence when Sebastian suddenly hugged her tightly. Mute's eyes widened in surprised as he whispered,
"Thank goodness... You're alright..." His eyes were softly closed as he embraced her.
'Was he that worried? Why couldn't he just come find me? Or was he too busy playing butler?' Mute's mind wondered. Sebastian pulled away and leaned towards her lips, but Mute stepped him by pushing him away while communicating telepathically, "Hold on."
"What is it?" The demon asked.
"What happened back at the Catholic Church?" She demanded an explanation.
"I searched for you, and you were nowhere to be found. I couldn't find you anywhere... However, there is something you should know about."
"The angel." Mute guessed.
"And The Fallen." Mute raised an eyebrow at this. What did he mean? "During one of the rituals that my Lord and I witnessed, the designed glass in the chapel revealed your image." Sebastian explained. This was new to Mute. She's just now hearing about this. "What happened, Milady?...."
Mute turned her head to the side and sighed as she closed her eyes. "What exactly do you know about me, Sebastian? Tell me that." She demanded, her thoughts sounding harsh and annoyed.
"A rare, one of a kind Fallen Angel with many nightly abilities.... But when I look at you, I can sense nothing but your aura..." Sebastian frowned. "With a taint bitterness within..."
Mute's eyelids opened a bit.
"You have been hurt, my dear. I know that. Your eyes tell a dark story. Yet you remain silent."
'Exactly...' Mute sighed and closed her eyes. 'We are destined mates, yet this is against my will. Why me?' She sighed.
"No matter how long it takes you to open up, I will be here for you. If only you could understand that." Sebastian embraced her again.
"I don't want to understand it!" Mute shut her eyes as she screamed in her head. The windows and the mirrors in the bedroom began to crack. Sebastian took a step back from her in alert. Mute inhaled deeply to calm herself down before opening her eyes again. "I don't want to understand why you and I have to be destined mates! I don't want you to understand me because you could never understand anything about me! Why would you love me? How could you love me!? You're a demon who will play with the victims and their prey to get what they want. What makes me so special!?" Mute grabbed her head as she gritted her teeth with anger. So much rage hitting her all at once.
"Milady...." Sebastian noticed her bleeding palm from how tightly she was fisting her hand. Not only that, Mute was also crying black tears. But they were not thick as blood. They were watery tears.
'He really doesn't understand me at all... He only knows bits and pieces.' Mute sighed with her thoughts and sat on the bed. "I'm sorry..." She communicated to Sebastian.
"There is nothing to apologize for, Milady." Sebastian walked over to her and stood in front of her.
'He doesn't need to get to know me. Mate or not. I don't want to understand anything about any of this. I just want things to go back to how they were... This demon can't see right through me...' Mute looked up at Sebastian before averting her eyes. 'What is there to know about this demon? I don't know a single thing about him except for the fact that he is in a contract with a human child. That's it.'
"If you wish to, you may stay in this room for the night. I will not disturb you." Sebastian said suddenly to break the silence. Without saying another word, he left the room. This left Mute a little confused, but she decided to let it go. She thought he was going to stay and continue the conversation.
"Immortal by design
I'll be meeting you here every time..."
Sebastian returned to his room and closed the door behind him before slumping against it. He held his head, his hand almost covering his eyes. "What was that just now?" He whispered to himself. "But I could feel it... I could feel her pain." He gasped, remembering her sudden outburst.
