Chapter 2

He raised his head when the sound of somebody sitting next to him caught his attention.
"Hi, Channie," the new person said, Chan answered with a smile to the guy with coral colored hair that took place next to him. "Sorry for being late, I was helping with something in my classroom."
Chan laughed and shook his head.
"It's okay, Felix," Chan said. "And, you're using Korean, what a great surprise!"
"Ah, yes. I realized that if I want to improve my Korean skills, I need to use it more frequently," Felix said, looking a little bit embarrassed.
"That's what I've been telling you since we moved to Korea, you genius," Chan answered and then hit Felix's head with his hand; Felix blushed.
"Don't talk to me about making progress when you can't even make friends, hyung. At least I have a good relationship with my classmates, what about you?" Felix spoke in English, trying to sound firm and avoiding the stutters that he would generally make when speaking Korean.
Chan looked away, slightly embarrassed of himself with an obvious frown on his face.
"I..." Chan stopped, a sad look on his eyes, "I just don't want to—" he couldn't finish his speech since Felix had grabbed both of this hands and held them in between his own.
"Channie, don't do this to yourself," he said, looking straight into Chan's eyes. "I know the people in the school we used to attend were jerks, but that doesn't mean they will be like that here too, don't close yourself just because you're afraid of not being to the liking of others," Felix squeezed Chan's hands. "I know you, hell, I've known you my entire life, and I know you're an amazing and funny person. Don't take away the right of others, and of yourself, of meeting you, just because you can't speak. If somebody wants you in their lives, they will do it even if you have a different way of communicating," he finished, smiling softly.
Chan lowered his head, trying to hide the tears that filled his eyes and freed his hands from Felix's, "Stop making me want to cry, you idiot. I didn't ask for a younger brother for this," Chan said, making Felix burst in laughter.
"First of all, you didn't ask for me at all, one year old you couldn't have done that," Felix laughed again, his laugh quickly making Chan laugh too. "And second, you know you love me so stop being ridiculous."
Chan smiled and pulled Felix into a tight and uncomfortable hug which Felix tried to escape in vain. Both laughing and enjoying each others company.

A few days went by after Felix told him about opening himself more to his classmates, however, not a lot of progress was made. It was easier to just say 'Go and talk to somebody' than actually do it. Because how was he supposed to go and be friendly with others if he couldn't even say Hi to start a conversation? Chan sighed as their literature teacher entered the room and a few minutes after the class started.
And that's when Chan realizes that he had no pencil case inside his backpack, which meant no pens or pencils for him. He suddenly felt the need to scream, although he obviously couldn't. He allowed himself to feel miserable for a second, and then looked around to see if he could ask somebody for one.
The guy at his left was looking at him, not in a creepy way, just like wondering why he was moving so much or looked like a dark cloud had taken place above him suddenly. Chan kind of smiled to the boy and then went back to his misery.
You should ask him, he seems nice. The voice of the reason spoke inside Chan's head, although Chan wasn't so sure about doing that. He sighed, it was time for him to actually 'speak' to somebody for once.
He took the small device he had on his pocket, it was a like a phone, but it really wasn't that. It was simply a screen that he could use to write stuff in case he didn't have a notebook or, in this case, a pen near him. Only used for communication since the device has no sort of memory inside it, it was merely a screen and/or a keyboard. He typed in some stuff fast, before turning towards the guy and, knowing he had his attention, showing him the message written with the biggest font he could use.

Woojin observed Chan as he was already used to do, but Chan looked somehow uneasy this time. And it didn't matter how much he wanted to ask him if everything was alright, Woojin was too shy to approach Chan's bubble without thinking he would make it pop. I mean, he hadn't seen the boy really interact with anybody, maybe his intromission would only make him mad.
Reason why big was his surprise when Chan faced him and showed him a small device (which he'd been typing in a few seconds before) with a message written. For a second, before reading what it said, Woojin imagined that it would say something like 'Stop staring at me, creep.' But no, instead it was something totally different that made Woojin basically reinforce his theory of Bang Chan being the cutest human ever, after his friend Jeongin, it read:
Hey! You're Woojin, right? Sorry for bothering you, but... do you have a pen you could lend me? I forgot my pencil case at home and... well, you know. I'm really sorry if I'm disturbing you in any way, I don't mean to. And a thousand thanks if you really have a pen to lend me, I'd appreciate it.
Woojin had to contain the screech that was about to come out from him as he read the message, because somehow, for him that just overly cute and he couldn't take it. Instead of acting like a fangirl, Woojin smiled softly at the boy and went to look for an extra pen in his backpack, which gladly he gave to Chan. The aforementioned smiled back and Woojin felt his heart do a slip in the air and then land in a graceful pose into the place it was supposed to go.
Calm down, Kim Woojin, you barely know this guy.
The classes passed quickly after he had interacted with his now officially three weeks crush. His mind was basically full of Chan's smile and Chan only. He was sure he'd regret that once he had to study for exams, but right now, he was fine with the idea.
When the lunch bell was five minutes from ringing and their professor announced that the lesson was over, Woojin turned to Chan, this time determined to at least have a small conversation with the curly haired guy.
"Hey," Woojin said, and Chan automatically turned around to face him, saying hi with his hand.
"I've never seen you at lunch, do you take a class during it?" Woojin asked, not too sure about how to make the conversation flow.
Chan took the small device from his pocket again, and quickly typed in, showing it to Woojin. And it wasn't until that moment that Woojin noticed that Chan hadn't said a word even when he asked him about the pen. A few hours ago, he had been so caught up in how cute the other male was, that he didn't pay attention to that not-so-small detail. A lot of ideas starting to build in his mind, but he didn't mention it. He read the message:
Ohh, that's because I take lunch outside with my brother.
And then Woojin remembered their theory about Seungmin's new classmate being Chan's brother.
"Is your brother, by any means, Lee Felix?" He asked, Chan gave him a surprised look and quickly went back to type in that small thing.
Do you know my brother? Woojin grimaced after reading this.
"Not really. He's classmate with one of my friends and he mentioned a new student called Lee Felix, I assumed he's your brother since two new student at the middle of the school year was too much coincidence," Woojin explained.
This time Chan didn't type into the screen, he just made an 'oh' with his mouth and nodded, like agreeing with Woojin. Woojin found this cute. For a few seconds, nobody said anything, submerging into a quiet silence that was not awkward nor uncomfortable. Until Woojin decided to make the question he wasn't so sure about.
"Can I ask you something?" He said, Chan nodded, Woojin took a deep breath in before asking, "You... you can't speak, right?"
Chan opened his mouth and Woojin could almost hear him saying 'ahh...," almost. He then gave Woojin a look between embarrassed and awkward and nodded again.
Then it all started to make sense for Woojin, since Chan couldn't speak, he was probably too shy or embarrassed to address to other people with some other kind of communication, which explained why he never saw him talk with any of their classmates and why he didn't see him speak to the teachers either. Woojin smiled softly, being cautious about not offending Chan with his expressions.
"Do you and your brother want to sit with me and my friends at lunch?" Chan seemed surprised by the request. "I'm sure they will like you," he smiled again.
Chan hurriedly typed on his phone like device and showed it to Woojin, it said:
I... yeah, sure. Why not? I'll tell Felix in a moment, so he knows we'll be sitting in a different place today. Thanks for the offer, Woojin.
Woojin smiled to himself again and then they waited until the bell to leave the classroom heading towards the cafeteria together. Woojin was proud of himself for once.
