6 Trails of Mind
POV Anna
"Aren't reindeer rides really romantic?" I sighed while leaning against Kristoff's shoulder.
"Yeah they are," Kristoff mumbled and threw a carrot to his best friend who was already licking its lips.
"Oww, just why did you have to do that? It hurts every time right here -- ," Olaf groaned and pointed at his nose, "—when I see him eating a carrot.
"No one asked you to come along on our romantic ride through winter forest," Kristoff sighed and made me laugh.
"Well excuse me that you had to hide a snowman up in the mountains. Anyway, why hasn't Elsa come for a visit this time?" Olaf muttered and wiggled himself to sit between me and Kristoff.
Kristoff glanced at me as a grin spread on my face.
"She met a guy!" I cheered and Kristoff exhaled loudly. He thinks that I get too excited over things too often.
Olaf gasped and his mouth hangs open which clearly showed out his two teeth. "A guy!" He squealed.
"Yes! Well the guy is deaf but really cute," I giggled.
"And we don't know that much about him and you blamed him of faking his deafness a while back," Kristoff chuckled as he guided Sven to right path so we could get back to his grandma.
"Wait, so Elsa is with that guy now?" Olaf cheered and waved his stick hands.
"Obviously! Oh Olaf, isn't this fun! Maybe she won't be alone anymore and she will start a family one day and--," I began so speak in excitement but then Kristoff interrupted me with a cough.
"You know, we could have a kid one day so why are you so excited over your sister having a family?" He sighed and glanced at me strictly.
"Being an aunt would be awesome! OOOH! And you would be a godfather or something!" I giggled and he rolled his eyes.
"Ooh! I couldn't agree with you more Anna. And what if the children have their mother's power! They might do some little Olaf's!" Olaf chuckled as we arrived back at Kristoff's grandma's house.
"Whoa! Don't you remember what happened when Elsa had a cold and those tiny creatures messed up the entire house of yours?" Kristoff blinked and I just smiled while shrugging my shoulders.
"That was kind of creepy though," Olaf said quietly and stared at his little round snow feet.
"C'mon!" I groaned and then the door opened.
"What are you three arguing about?" Kristoff's grandma asked as she came out.
"About Elsa," Kristoff replied when he hopped off from the sleigh. He started untying Sven to take him into the stable.
"What about her?" Grandma smiled warmly.
"She's with this guy which is the reason why she didn't come here this weekend. I kind of want her to be happy, is there something wrong with wishing something like that?" I pouted and when I got down from the sleigh grandma's cold stony hand touched my hand.
"No there isn't but you should let your sister do things in her own pace. She has been through a lot like you," grandma chuckled.
"And you haven't even told about my family to her yet!" Kristoff cheered when he left with Sven.
"I'm really sorry grandma but you know that she would freak out if she knew that my new relative is a rock and not normal person," I laughed nervously.
"I'll go with Sven and Kristoff!" Olaf cheered at the door and then he wobbled off.
"Then it's good that I know some magic as well to seal things," grandma smiled.
"Yes, I'm so glad that you're not angry," I giggled when we sat around the table. She had done some warm vegetable soup for us.
"Well, who is this boy your sister is so gladly taking care off?" Grandma asked and raised her eyebrow. "We stone trolls are love experts you know," she then added laughing.
A grin spread on my face. Finally I have someone to speak with who doesn't get annoyed of gossiping.
I took some soup to my bowl and then I rest my elbows against the table. Grandma watched how I lean my chin against my hands.
"He just popped into her life all of a sudden. I think he is around our age even though his hair is white as snow," I grinned. Grandma frowned a bit but urged me to continue.
"So he is deaf white guy. Aren't white cats deaf as well?" I asked when my thoughts wandered off but then I cleared my mind.
"--However he seems really cheerful and friendly despite of losing his memory from three years back. I swear that Elsa has a crush on him, she just stares at his blue eyes often," I smiled.
"White haired and blue eyed? Is there something else that is popping out in him?" Grandma wondered.
"Umm... He doesn't mind the cold and he likes hoodies," I shrugged when I took the spoon in my mouth.
"Oh, what's his name?" Grandma asked with her voice shivering. She went to get a tray with bread buns.
"Jack. Did I mention that his smile makes Elsa blush?" I giggled but then I gasped when grandma dropped her plate.
"T-this can't be... do you have a picture of him?" Grandma gulped.
"Yeah, I took one with him and Elsa one evening at dinner table," I replied when I reached to my phone. I opened up the picture for her and I showed it to her.
It was like she was seeing a ghost all of a sudden.
"Grandma?" I questioned with worry.
"What's going on?" Kristoff asked. He had just came in and joined now with us to table. Then he saw the pieces of broken plate.
"How did he break through..." Grandma whispered in shock.
"Who? What's up?" Kristoff said quickly as he went to pick up the pieces of the plate.
"This Jack... I know him," grandma stated seriously when she gave the phone back.
My eyes widened. "THIS IS GREAT! He doesn't know who he is so please you need to tell us who--," I cheered in excitement.
Grandma sighed in deeply and closed her eyes.
"Thirteen years ago we did our greatest magic spell to protect a family. We created a barrier and he must have come over it... when did you say that he lost his memory?" Grandma sounded dead serious.
"Three years ago, why?" I gulped.
"So that was when... when we had to weaken the barrier to let your parents pass. He came over, this is bad," Grandma stated.
"Why is it bad?" I asked.
"The person who we are dealing with – he is someone with great power and from legends, books are written of him," grandma whispered.
"Whoa, now you've eaten too much of mushrooms from your stone surface," Kristoff chuckled as he joked and tried to lighten up the mood. Instead grandma looks at him seriously.
"This person is indeed Jack but some know him as Nightlight but most common name for him...," grandma began but then silenced down to look at the floor.
"Who is he?" I whispered.
"Jack Frost and the situation is now really bad. You must call Elsa and tell her not to be around him," Grandma spoke like the world was about to end.
"B-but it is late and there's no reception with phones in this area," I gulped when I look at Kristoff.
"Hurry!" Grandma urged and that was enough for me to get up.
"Let's ride on Sven to the road until we find a place to call," Kristoff spoke when he took my hand.
I just have no idea on how to tell Elsa to stay away from him. I mean if I tell her that a magical stone troll told me to warn her she will think that I'm drunk.
POV Elsa
I guess there's first time for everything. Like waking up next to a living, breathing guy who is still sleeping right next to you. Somehow I had forgot how to breathe while I watched at him, sun was rising outside the window and reflecting shades of glimmering silver on his hair. My hands were stuck right against his chest and I didn't dare to move because his arm was over my waist.
Last night I didn't see those nightmares anymore when he was sleeping next to me. When he began to wake up his eyebrows were wriggling a bit and it made me close my eyes quickly. He flinched before he took his arm off from me and when I opened up my eyes he stared at me with blush on his cheeks, wishing me good morning.
I guess that was the moment when I totally fell for his charm. The way he smiled was really nice and I managed to say good morning to him before he got up and headed back to the guestroom.
There was no way though, for me to tell him that I might have developed things like feelings towards him. And maybe it is not even wise because liking a guy who is nice, friendly and funny can't be good for you. What if he turns out to be someone else than he is hinting out?
Besides he has been quite quiet today, deep in his thoughts and turning that old snow globe in his hands.
"Is something troubling you?" He asked and I look at him. I place the book I'm reading back to table and I see how he places the snow globe back to the table.
"Nothing," I lied with my cheeks heating up, "how about you?" I then added and he leaned back on the couch.
This time he was wearing the blue hoodie and brown pants which he had been wearing on the day I first met him.
He grinned and placed his fingers against each other. "Nah. I would like to ask you something," he smiled and rubbed his chin afterwards.
"Y-yeah, ask what you want," I giggled all of a sudden. My eyes widened and I thanked my luck that he can't hear how I giggle like a little girl.
"Say, what do you remember from your childhood?" He asked curiously and lifted his eyebrow up.
His question surprised me and I had to take a long breathe in, it was a raspy one. I squeezed my hands into fists.
"W-well," I began and I felt myself shaking in the inside, "I spent most of my childhood alone in my room. I had this condition..." I laughed nervously as I kept on tucking the same strand of my hair behind my ear all of the time.
"Really? No one at all?" He said staring into my eyes from under his eyebrows.
I close my eyes for a moment. "I had... an imaginative friend though," I added after opening up my eyes. The memory of my childhood made me smile.
"Oh, this sounds exciting. Mind telling me of the friend of yours?" He chuckled and leaned forward. I notice how he stares keenly at my lips, waiting for me to speak.
"He was this ice fairy--," I started while trying to picture my imaginative friend. It was like everything had gone under blur during the years.
Jack began to laugh out loudly and held his forehead, "Ice fairy? Seriously?" He managed to say in between his laughter.
I waited him to calm down and when he managed to look at me again I kept on glaring at him. He apologized quickly.
"Well he could fly," I snapped and he nodded his approval. Then the smile of his faded away and he went back into his thoughts.
I went over to him and I touched his knee when I kneeled in front of him. "Everything okay?" I insisted to know and he told me not to worry.
"Do you remember anything?" I then asked because something seemed a bit off.
"My friends yes, I remembered them last night," he smiled.
"Are you going to meet them soon?" I managed to ask even though I was afraid of his answer. What if he leaves me?
"Maybe but not right now," he winked his eye and messed up my hair as he got up.
He told me to follow after him and we went outside. Immediately he began a snow fight when he got hold of the snow that was all around the yard. We had fun throwing snow balls at each other but it was like something was weighing his mind and he refused to talk about it.
The maid left early today after preparing the dinner. Jack helped me out with washing the dishes before we went to bed. He wished me good night and thanked me for everything I had done. After making sure that I can handle next night alone he retreated to guestroom. I noticed though how he glanced after me with a bit sadness showing in his eyes.
I took a shower before putting my night gown on. It was smelling fresh flowers because it came from the laundry today. Anna gave it to me last Christmas, it is my favorite and I don't use it that often. It reaches just below my knees, the neckline is heart shaped and the color is beautiful turquoise blue. The sleeves are short and puffy.
The sky was clear because there was really cold outside. My breath steamed in the night air when I stood in my balcony. My wet hair became a bit crispy but it melted right away when I got back in.
I glance my reflection from the mirror and I sigh.
"Tomorrow I'll ask if he would go out with me, for sure!" I cheered to my reflection.
Then I cleared my throat.
"Listen--," I began practicing but then I facepalmed, "—not good! He can't listen... he is deaf!"
Then I inhaled deeply. "Umm... I would like to know if--," I whispered and I noticed my cheeks turning red, "—you would like to go out to dinner with me..because umm.. I like you. Not too much though but just a little!" I spoke the ending in fast pace and I snorted my laughter nervously in the end.
"Crap," I exhaled and then I turned my back to the mirror. My body collapsed onto the bed and I groaned against the pillow. "I can't do it... It will be simply stupid if I try," I mumbled.
I turn to lay on my back and I stare at the ceiling for a while before I sigh and pull the covers on me. The clock is soon at midnight and I click my night light off.
My heart was literally pounding inside my chest like a runaway train that's about to crash against stone wall. I don't know when my eyelids were feeling heavy enough for me to fall asleep but I do know when I woke up. In the middle of the night.
I heard these silent whispers. It was like Jack was speaking to me somewhere in the distance. I was standing in the middle of a forest and I heard his voice everywhere, reaching towards me through dream.
"I couldn't leave you without saying goodbye," he began. Something in his voice was telling me that he was sad.
Leave me? I replied but the forest muffled my voice from him.
"My time is to move on but it was nice meeting you," he whispered.
I circle around and then all of a sudden he is standing before me with his hand holding mine. He has a faint smile while his fingers slip away. The figure of him is flickering, floating away.
Then I realize that we're standing near a cliff. The forest has vanished.
He climbs onto this branch that hangs over the cliff.
"Jack?" I ask.
"Good bye," he says and looks away from me and down to the abyss. He is about to jump.
My eyes flash wide open. The room around me is dark and I look around. Yeah, it was a dream.
Suddenly a cold breeze blows over me and I look at the open balcony doors.
"But I closed them?" I gulped.
And I had closed them. The person who opened them had already climbed onto the railing. Jack.
"NO! DON'T! YOU'LL DIE!" I screamed when I threw my blanket aside. I began rushing towards him.
Obviously he couldn't hear my screaming of his name as I watched him taking a step over the railing.
"JAACK!" I yelled when I tried to grasp onto his hoodie when he slipped over the edge.
Without any realization of possible outcome of both of us being dead soon I put my foot onto the railing and I jumped after him. My fingers reached to the fabric of his hoodie and he turned around in the air.
I saw the surprise in his eyes but before neither of us could say anything I felt my body taking an impact.
The ground felt soft and comforting even though my head hurt.
When I got my eyes open I smelled this dusky scent, the place I was in had some sunlight coming in.
"Oww," I mumbled when I sat down.
I was sitting on a bed, curtains were open and light was getting in from a window. For a moment I rubbed my forehead and then I saw a figure coming forward. It was Jack.
"You are awake finally," he stated and looks at me seriously.
"You are alive," I exhaled and he nodded his head.
"You were knocked out for few hours," he said and turned his back at me. He went over to a desk which was on the opposite side of the wall from the bed. He was taking a glass.
Then I got mad.
"WHAT THE HECK IS THE MATTER WITH YOU! YOU CAN'T JUMP OFF FROM EDGES! YOU ALMOST GOT US BOTH KILLED!" I shouted and then I threw the pillow at him which got him turned around sharply.
He stared at me in shock, some of the water spilled over the glass.
"Gosh, calm down," he exhaled and I was about to explain to him why I threw the pillow at him.
"I jumped over the edge for a reason but I didn't think you would follow," he chuckled and came to me, handing the water glass.
"Of course I would. You can't do suicide after everything," I groaned and then my eyes flashed open.
"Wait..." I whispered.
"Your voice is kinda cute even though you're angry," he grinned.
"WHAT!" I shouted and he held his right ear. He had just sat next to me on bed.
"Whoa, calm down. I can explain some things but first you need to chill," he laughed and messed up my hair with his hand.
I threw his hand aside and it felt really cold to touch. I notice something shimmering around his sleeves and the collar of his hoodie.
"W-where did you bring me?" I gulped.
"To friends place, don't freak out but when we fell your dress sort of got ruined," he smiled caringly and I look down.
I gasp when I see the shreds of my night gown. Quickly I pull the blanket better on me and some dust floats in the air, making me cough.
"Sorry, kind of didn't have time to dust everything out," he said and sounded uncomfortable while he rubbed his neck.
"How... your hearing.." I then exhaled.
"Uh... you see, there's magic in the world and --," he began as he got up.
He went over to the window and I see him opening it up. Then he took a stick from leaning to wall, it had a weird shape in it. Like a 'G'.
"You are insane," I laughed but when his fingers circled around the wooden surface of the stick I felt a gust of wind rushing in from the window.
"Maybe... however you know what I am referring to even though they took away your memories," Jack huffed and touched the window.
It was like he was pulling out a figure. It was crystallized, shimmering in different shades of blue. A butterfly made from ice was flying around and he just made it. I stare at him in shock.
"What's with the shock baby snow? You used to like that trick once," he chuckled and my attention went to him again. I gasp for air when I see him floating in the air, smiling.
"I think... I'm losing it," I managed to whisper while being out of breathe. Everything went blurry at that point and I fell back as I lost my consciousness.
A/N:
I dunno if I can give you guys another chapter before my baby is here but I'm trying. However when baby arrives I'm placing this book On Hold until I have finished "Private and the Captain". The other book is almost finished already so I hope that I can come back to continue "Silenced Memory" in few weeks. Being with baby is my first priority though so I'm writing whenever I can and feel like it.
When the baby comes I will post an update to both of my ongoing books ^-^.
So... how are you feeling of this book so far?
