Chapter 16
It was exam day.
It was good that Kiyo and Sunny had prepared everything for this test, obviously, a whole week of exam preparation was not wasted at all.
There were nine subjects that must be completed by the end of this week, including three minor subjects such as Fine Arts, Music and IT.
That morning, usually on this day, everyone would eat in a hurry. But the couple Sunny-Kiyo were completely different, because of the preparation, they had a quite relaxing breakfast.
And they get up quite early, and prepare breakfast together.
Although it was only loaves of toast and two cups of milk per person, it was enough.
"What time is it.." - Kiyo looked at the clock, the bus was still an hour away.
"Are you able to be in time? The bus station is a few meters away.." - Sunny sips some milk.
"Nah. I'll be there thirty minutes early anyway." - Kiyo has been eating for a long time, eyes fixed on the newspaper.
Then he folded it. It's all bullshit news.
Kiyo picked up his bag:
"Anyway, you can always go first. You can go by yourself, right?"
"Yeah.. the bike is fixed."
"So, I'll go first. You know how this door works, right?"
Sunny just nodded once, then waved to say bye. Until Kiyo left the house, he put on his bag, put away his empty cup, turned off the lights, then led the bike out of the gate and locked the gate.
And as always, Sunny pedaled along the path he used to go.
He always got to school before Kiyo, because Kiyo had ten minutes to walk, and the two of them weren't on the same road.
But today, because Sunny stayed at Kiyo's house for a week straight, the opposite would happen.
Seeing Kiyo from behind, Sunny involuntarily stopped beside him.
"..What?" - Kiyo was surprised.
"Well, you must be tired from going this far, so..." - Sunny stammered.
"I'm used to going this way."
"Come on, you should have come earlier for the exam today."
Kiyo chucked, then replied:
"You want to pass me, right? But can you pass?"
Sunny suddenly fell silent. He had absolutely no idea how much Kiyo weighed despite being at his house all week.
"Okay, let me drive. Get off the bike."
Driven by Kiyo?? It sounds like a dream, even though it's normal. Sunny was never taken to school by anyone, he always went home by himself.
Kiyo noticed that his friend's face was slightly red, and asked worriedly:
"What's wrong? Are you sick?"
"No, I'll sit behind right away."
Sunny slowly got out of the bike, and let Kiyo go first, he sat in the back.
"Okay, let's go."
Kiyo started pedaling slowly. Then speed up a bit. Clinging to the hem of Kiyo's shirt, Sunny just shyly lowered his face.
At least save a bit of time. Before it took ten more minutes, now there are only five.
Without mentioning, Sunny still got off the bike by himself when he got to school.
"Sunny, you forgot your bag-"
Against Kiyo's will, he grabbed his bag and ran straight into the classroom.
"What is going on..." - Kiyo finds it difficult to understand.
When he entered the class, he saw Sunny leaning on his chin, looking outside, and he just stood next to Sunny.
Noticing Kiyo standing next to him, Sunny just whispered:
"I don't know why I'm like this. Except for the day I thanked you for fixing my bicycle, every time I'm with you, I feel like.."
Not understanding what Sunny meant, Kiyo coldly asked:
"Are you upset about me?"
"No.. Actually, when I'm around you, I feel nervous.. except the day before."
Kiyo kept quiet. Sunny dropped his body and face on the table, then looked up again:
"If you don't mind then.. can you leave me alone for a while? You can go up to the IT room with me if you want."
"Alright." - Kiyo returned to his seat.
And sit still for a while.
Then he gritted his teeth and scratched his head.
What did I do to make Sunny feel that way?!
Kiyo smacked his forehead, trying to recall and reflect on what he had done while spending a week with Sunny.
No, he was normal back then, even when he got on the bike earlier.
So why did he act like that all of this sudden?
Wait, or am I.. being overprotective of him? We just met not too long ago and I'm overdoing it..
Well, put away those thoughts, I have to mentally prepare for the exam, but this one is Literature, not something I'm good at. But still have to try to do my best..
Later, the teacher came and said:
"Are you all ready? Let's get some papers out."

For the rest of the day, the two of them didn't say a word to each other.
Even though Kiyo noticed that Sunny was looking at him, he turned away.
Why are we like strangers now?.. This is not necessary..
It went on like that for three days.
One day, Kiyo didn't know what to do with his new laptop when there was a rattling sound outside. It sounds a lot like Sunny's bike, but this time, it's not broken.
What's that? Kiyo flung open the door. It's true he is.
"Ah, so it's you.." - Kiyo's voice was a bit lowered.
Sunny held the bag tightly, eyes slightly rolling to the ground:
"Can I talk to you for a moment?"
They sat down with two cups of tea, Kiyo took a sip and asked:
"Well, what is it?"
"Remember what happened the other day?" - Sunny only held the cup but didn't drink.
"Ah, that one.."
He frowned, setting down the cup completely, this time, his voice was no longer stuttered as before, but instead a rather clear voice:
"Actually, I'm very, very grateful to you for fixing my bike and going to school with me. And yet I ran away like that."
Sunny paused for a moment, to see if Kiyo was listening. Then he went on to say:
"I'm so sorry. I've never had anyone treat me like that in my life, Kiyo. Not even my parents..."
Although he didn't know about Sunny's family situation, when he heard about it, Kiyo also felt sorry for his friend.
The other guy stood up, apologizing a few more times, and Kiyo awkwardly said:
"No, it's okay! Geez, just sit down, I'm not mad at you."
Sunny glanced at him.
"Really?"
"Yeah."
Now, the boy who always had bright eyes would sit down.
"By the way Kiyo.. if you're asking about my family.. it should be next time."
"Why?"
"I don't know." - Sunny drinks some tea.
Neither of them said anything more. Kiyo suddenly recalled Sunny's behavior towards him these past few days, and he saw something strange there.
"Sunny, no offense but.."
"Hm?"
Kiyo hummed a few times. Maybe this is a little sensitive to him?
"According to your usual gestures when you're around me, although it's a bit early to decide, it seems you... romantically like me or something."
Just as he finished speaking, he saw Sunny starting to get flustered and blushing:
"I-is that so? But it's not like that.. We're both boys, how can that be."
"True, maybe your style is a bit strange to me, but I will get used to it. I don't have a lot of social experience, so sometimes people think I am overthinking." - Kiyo clutched his own hand, glancing slightly away.
Both of them suddenly laughed awkwardly.
Maybe I'm overthinking it, there's no way to fall in love with someone so quickly, unless at first sight. But that's the opposite sex. If it's the same, then I don't know.
"Damn, that's a bit weird, isn't it? Sorry." - Kiyo still hasn't stopped laughing, covering his eyes with his hand.
Looks like I'm starting to look a bit like Sunny here.
"There's nothing to apologize for. Even I don't get it myself.."
Despite hearing everything Sunny said, Kiyo still felt that something was not right there. It's not about love, but what is the truth behind Sunny's different expressions?
It might take a while for him to open up.
"Ah, it looks like tomorrow is the IT exam right?"
"Yeah, that's why I brought this.." - Kiyo pointed at the laptop.
Sunny stared at it, then his face seemed to think of something:
"I have an idea. How about learning programming on this laptop? That would be convenient."
"Aren't I studying up here? You can do it here, so you don't have to go to school again after lesson." - Kiyo propped his chin.
After sitting and talking for a while, it was already dark.
Kiyo now looks outside, starting to worry about Sunny, because it is very dangerous to go now.
"It is dark. Can you go home?"
"It's fine. To be honest... I usually carry a knife for defense.."
Hey, don't tell me.. this guy has killed someone before??
Kiyo was startled and asked:
"S-so have you stabbed anyone yet?"
"No. You see, not a scratch right?"
Kiyo said let me see, taking the knife, carefully checking to see if Sunny did anything to it.
In his experience, Sunny hadn't killed anyone yet. Not a single stain on it, not even a scratch. And if it does, it can't be hidden, no matter what to wash it with.
Kiyo didn't want Sunny to follow his path, so he checked carefully and considerably. And he didn't want to be identified so he didn't say where he learned it.
"Here you go."
Sunny took the knife and put it in his bag. He picked up his bag and headed to the bike.
"Okay, it is settled, I'll go home. See you tomorrow." - Sunny smiled softly.
"Yeah, be careful." - Kiyo probably laughed too.
After Sunny had left, Kiyo locked the gate and returned to the computer.
"I forgot to ask him about this.." - He sat down, breathing in frustration.
At least, he felt less tired about the trifles of the day before. Wouldn't it be more comfortable to frankly discuss to solve it?
