Chapter 15
Two more days until the exam.
Both Sunny and Kiyo are ready to go there, now it's just a matter of fixing Sunny's bicycle.
It rained continuously a few days ago, so Kiyo couldn't fix it either. Fortunately, today is dry.
"By the way, Sunny, the exam is over in two days."
"I know."
"Perhaps I should check your bike now."
Sunny was surprised and was about to ask if Kiyo really knew how to fix bikes, but because he knew what Kiyo was like, he stopped. And Sunny sat in the house.
Kiyo carried a book, perhaps it was a bike repair manual.
Our main character looks down at the bike. Oh, so it had a loose chain and a flat tire, which seems very unfortunate, at least not completely broken.
"Let's see.." - Kiyo searched for the section about the chain lose.
Here it is. He also put on gloves, to avoid getting oil on his hands.
Before cycling, Kiyo must use the left handle on the front lowest disc. When the front disc rests on the smaller disc, the chain is fully tensioned. And keep pedaling.
Is this step enough? Not enough. It does not change the left switch, the chain still does not return to the smallest disc. Kiyo reviewed the book and he had to take the next step.
He got out of the bike, lifted the tire and turned the pedals with his hands, and raised the wheel to turn the pedals.
Oh, all right. But the problem is the tire is flat, somehow I can still fix this annoying chain.
Kiyo entered the warehouse and pulled out a bicycle tire pump. Like a true auto mechanic, he carefully inserted it into the wheel and pushed it.
The bike was finally repaired. Took almost half an hour.
He took off his gloves, threw them in the trash, and called out to Sunny:
"Sunny! Come see if you can pedal!"
Of course, he can pedal, but Kiyo asked if it was okay.
Sunny rushed out.
"Wow, I didn't expect you to know how to fix bikes!"
"It's nothing, I just read the manual. Come on, try it out."
Sunny sat nervously in the bike, put his feet up, and tried a few rides in the neighborhood.
He rode very well, then there was no problem. When he returned, Sunny got out of the bike, lowered his legs, and grabbed Kiyo's hands:
"Thank you, Kiyo! Without you, I don't know who to give it to, and my parents don't give me much money.."
"It doesn't matter. Besides, the bike isn't really broken, it's just... the chain slipped and the tires blown out."
"Oh, I thought I'd have to buy a new bike.."
After saying that, suddenly Sunny hugged his friend, not even being shy.
"Ah-"
"Honestly, since you appeared, I've been so happy.."
I make someone happy? It was something Kiyo had never thought of and didn't count as possible. But now it has come true.
Kiyo didn't know what to say but felt embarrassed, and his hands just held the other guy.
Sunny happily left Kiyo's body.
"Hey, I just made two cups of tea in there, come in and drink."
Kiyo nodded, locked the gate, and walked in with him.
And they enjoyed a cup of tea together.
The assassin felt that his burden, along with the worries of life, had been somewhat relieved since he started spending time with Sunny. For someone like Kiyo, it was rare to find someone who made him feel safe.
If only this friendship would never end.. Since leaving the orphanage, Tomoyo and I had lost contact, technically became strangers. I don't want to lose this relationship at all...
Finding a friend like Sunny was precious, especially in such dire circumstances.
Kiyo couldn't hide the fact that: he wanted to know more about Sunny, especially what had molded him into the person he was now, and to know was a matter of time, and gradually Sunny would comfortably share his feelings.
The teacup was already half empty, but Kiyo didn't pick it up to drink, as if he was thinking about something. With the clear sky, there was a high chance that it wouldn't rain after the exam, and Kiyo would have to return to the camp to continue training.
The thought of taking a weapon and taking another person's life made him sick. Regardless of whether the assassins' intentions were to do anything to them, Kiyo still believed that killing was wrong, more wrong than them, and that it was also a form of theft - that is, taking a human life.
The gruesome images of corpses appeared, along with the strange sounds whispering in his ears, making Kiyo extremely dizzy. Feeling uncomfortable, he held his forehead, breathing irregularly.
"What's wrong?!"
Kiyo could still hear Sunny's calls and the sound of chairs being pushed, but the curses of the victims still overwhelmed them. The black-haired boy awkwardly turned his head to his friend:
"Open the medicine cabinet for me and see if there's anything that can help my headache. You probably know all the different types of medicine."
"Okay, wait for me!"
While Sunny ran to find the medicine, Kiyo felt his head was so heavy. These symptoms weren't uncommon for him, but they rarely happened at normal times like now.
Footsteps approached him, and a glass of water was placed on the table, along with a blister pack of pills.
"I found it, can you take it now?"
"Yes. Thank you." - Kiyo slowly put the pill in his mouth, then took a sip of water. It was too bitter, but he still had to swallow it.
After that, Sunny helped his friend into the room to rest, worried that the exam was coming soon and Kiyo was sick like this, so he didn't know if he would be able to go to school.
"Do you usually have headaches like this?"
"No. We must have been studying too hard." - Kiyo shook his head, making an excuse to cover up the real reason behind the dizziness earlier.
The brown-haired boy placed the other's hand on his own. His eyes showed clear anxiety and looked straight at Kiyo, a look that he could hardly avoid. Sunny's hand was still warm as always, but he did not take it.
"Let's rest for now, don't push yourself."
Those gentle words calmed Kiyo a little. It had been a long time since he had been cared for like this, since the beginning of summer, all he had heard were the curses of the trainers and the beating sound on the children's bodies.
"You're so kind... No wonder you keep getting bullied." - Kiyo sighed.
Sunny didn't know what to say but to smile. He didn't have anyone to take care until Kiyo protected him from the bullies, so he did.
The two of them stayed in the room for a while, not saying anything, until it was almost evening when Sunny went into the kitchen and made a full-fulling dinner.
