Love
CHAPTER 7- Love
Demi's POV
Love is a scary thing. To love someone means to be completely and utterly open with them. There's always that very real possibility that they will take everything and run, however that cannot stop you from moving forwards- and when the time comes, opening up again. Everyone says that love hurts, but that's not true. Loneliness hurts, Rejection hurts, Losing someone hurts, and envy hurts, but not love. everyone gets these things confused with love but in reality, Love is the only thing in this world that covers up all of the pain and makes someone feel wonderful again.

I woke up the next morning and immediately searched the sheets for Nick, frowning when they turned out to be empty. I got up and padded down the hallway with bare feet, Mac's door was open so I decided to peek in. A huge smile spread across my face at the sight of Nick and Mac cuddled up on the bed in front of me. After a second of deliberation, I tip-toed to the bed and snuggled into Nick's other side. His arm tightened around me as I laid my head on his chest and sighed happily, my perfect little family.
Unfortunately the moment was ruined by my cell phone going off. Mac barely flinched but Nick opened his eyes, looking around sleepily. "Hey baby." I murmured, leaning up and kissing him. Nick smiled, "When did you get here?" I shrugged, "About two minutes ago, my phone went off. My mom wants to know if we can go over there today and..." I cut off, flushing red to which Nick leaned down and kissed my forehead, "What is it?" I smiled shyly, "Well they offered to take Mac for the night so we can have alone time.." He cut me off my smiling and nodding, "Well Miss Demi Lovato, would you do me the pleasure of going on a date with me tonight?" Giggling at his posh accent, I nodded. "I would love to Mr.Jonas."

"Mom? Were here!" I called as Nick, Mac, and I walked into my parent's house. "Oh my God Demi! How are you?" My mom squealed, running over to hug me. As soon as she let go, my mom pounced on Nick, kissing his cheek quickly then grabbing Mac. "And how's my little princess?" She cooed, rubbing her nose with Mac's as my daughter giggled and hugged her tightly. "Hi Grandma!" Eddie walked into the room then, smiling widely. "Hey guys! How're you feeling Demi?" I reached out to hug him, sudden'y feerling childishly small compared to his huge frame. "I'm doing great! How are you?" He just hugged me tighter and I knew the accident had been tough on him. Even though he's not my biological father Eddie has been there for he in so many ways that Patrick has not, so I'll always consider him my father and I know the feeling is mutual.
"DEMI!" A voice yelled, snapping me from my thoughts as a body hit into me. I hugged the person back blindly. "I missed you so much!" Oh shit, Maddie! "Hey babygirl! I missed you too." I pulled back and looked into her brown eyes that were identical to mine, "How've you been?" Maddie shrugged, "Things have been getting easier and I'm eating more!" I smiled back, although extremely confused. My little sister lowered her voice, "And the scars are fading too." I froze, my voice coming out strangled, "Scars?"
**
"Maddie?" She looked up at me through swollen, red, eyes. "Aren't you sweating? You'll feel better if you take this thing off." I tugged at the sweatshirt and Maddie's eyes widened in fear, shaking her head frantically. "N-No. I'm okay, k-kinda cold." I looked her in the eyes, "Maddie, it's okay you can trust me." She held my gaze for a minute, then slowly peeled off the sweatshirt. I grabbed her hands before she could hide her arms and turned them over, exposing the underside of her forearms covering in new and old cuts.

Tears filled my eyes and Maddie's face fell, "You didn't know, it was the accident wasn't it." I felt a hand on my shoulder and knew it was Nick. "Let's give her a moment, come on Demi." He led me into a different room where I collapsed on the bed, pulling Nick down with me and curling up against his body with my sobs coming out in inhuman sounds. Nick ran his hand up and down my back trying to console me as I let it out onto his shoulder, ruining his shirt. "Shhh Demi, it's okay. She's okay." I shook my head, "I just... I don't know Nick. H-How could I let this happen?" He hugged me tightly and kissed my forehead, "Don't do that. It's not your fault baby you can't think like that. Maddie is gonna be fine. You heard her, she's already doing better I promise." My now my sobs had morphed into silent tears streaming down my face as I listened to the sound of his voice, trying to calm myself down. "There we go it's okay, calm down Demi." Nick soothed again. I nodded, fisting his shirt in my hand and clutching him like a lifeline. "It's just so frustrating getting bits and pieces of my memory at the most random times and when your trying so hard to remember something specific it doesn't come to you and it's just... ugh." The tears had started again and Nick was softly wiping them away with his thumbs. "Hey, it's okay Demi. You have, and Mac and you family. We all love you very much and were all here for you no matter what. I've said it before and I'll say it again I don't care if you don't remember because I'll love you forever and we can make new memories okay?" I nodded and buried my head into his chest, "Okay."
Soon, there was a knock on the door, "Come in." Nick called, and the it opened to reveal Marissa. "Oh my God." I launched myself off of the bed and into her arms. "I haven't seen you in so long!" I squealed, hugging her tightly. "I'll give you both a minute." Nick murmured, backing out of the room and shutting the door. "So how have you been?" Marissa said, sitting on the bed and patting the spot beside her. I shrugged, "Good! I mean, at times it's really frustrating. One of the most terrifying things in life is losing your memory." Marissa nodded, "Are you and Nick still... Like, intimate?"I sighed, "I mean, we've made out before, but I didn't want to go all the way... I couldn't remember him." Marissa nodded, "And now that you can...ish, why?" It was as if she knew all of the questions that I didn't want to answer. "Because..... I don't know why. I'm just scared he'll run away I guess." She shook her head, "Demi Nick's not going anywhere, I know it's hard because you can't remember it, but that guy fought to hell and back for you and you can't do this to him." I sighed, and nodded. "I know it's just... Wilmer came back and I just had like, that moment of uncertainty between him and Nick." Marissa sighed and took my hand, "Demi, I want you to be completely open to this statement because it's one hundred percent true. Okay?" I nodded, curious as to what she was being so serious about. Marissa looked me dead in the eyes, "Wilmer is a dick head." A giggle escaped my lips despite her serious expression. "I'm serious Demi. He will hurt you as he has done before and nothing you do will ever change him. Wilmer is a lost cause." I was nodding my head before she even finished. "I know that, I've accepted that and I know Nick is the one for me... I don't know why I can't give my everything to him." Marissa smiled sympathetically, "You're overthinking it Dems. You love him, I can see that clearly. And Nick.. Demi, they way Nick looks at you is like nothing I've ever seen in my entire life. He loves you more than anything in the world, and you never find that twice." I nodded and a smile broke out on my face, "You really think so?" Marissa nodded, "I know so."
We walked back into the living room and I immediately grabbed Nick arm, pulling him out of the room and into another hallway. Once we were out of view from the other I pushed him against the wall and crashed my lips on his. Nick froze for a second, then pulled my hips against his, kissing me back hungrily. I slid my tongue into his mouth and we fought for the claim. Finally, we both pulled away gasping for air. I leaned my forehead against his, "So how about that date?"
As Nick went to start the car I stayed behind to talk to Maddie and Marissa. "Okay. No movies over PG... maybe PG-13 but that's it." They both rolled their eyes, "Relax Dems. We've got this!" I cocked an eyebrow, "I mean it Mar, I know we made Maddie watch Freddie when she was Mac's age but I swear to got I will lose my shit if I pick her up tomorrow and she's talking about zombies or demons." Again, they nodded. "Okay Demi now get out of here have fun with your man... but not too much fun." Marissa warned. With a roll of my eyes I squatted down and hugged Mac tightly, "Alright babygirl, you're gonna have a sleepover with Aunt Marissa and Aunt Maddie okay?" She nodded, "Okay." I smiled at her innocence, "Can mommy have a kiss?" I tapped my lips and she kissed me quickly, "Goodbye mommy." I pulled her into a one last hug, "Bye babygirl. I love you."

Nick brought us to a small restaurant that seated us right away in the back. We ate dinner- him a pasta dish and me a wrap, then Nick paid. The night had been quiet, not full of jokes like usual but had a more serious mood to it. As we got home Nick and I walked upstairs hand and hand. We stopped in our bedroom and Nick lifted his hand-slightly trembling, to cup my cheek. "I'll go run us a bath?" I nodded and he walked into the bathroom. Moments later, the sound of running water reach my ears. I quickly rubbed my face with one hand and took a deep breath. "Demi?" I turned around, Nick was shirtless in his boxers. "Are you okay?" I forced myself to keep my eyes on his face rather than his toned body. "Yeah, fine." My voice cracked and I internally cursed as Nick walked over with a worried expression. "Demi we don't have to do this if you're not ready." My eyes widened and I shook my head, running a hand along the stubble of his jaw. "Nick.... I'm ready, I want this. I want you. It's just... I'm nervous." He smiled and lifted the bottom of my shirt a little, "It's just a bath." Keeping my gaze locked on his, I lifted my shirt over my head and immediately crossed my arms over my chest. "Don't do that." He murmured, grabbing my wrists and pulling my arms apart, "Not with me." His fingers trailed down my stomach until they reached the button on my pants, leaving goosebumps in their path. With a quick nod from my they were around my ankles, and then tossed away. Nick played with the strap on my bra until that too was gone. After another minute, we both stood there naked. Nick's eyes trailed down my body, "So beautiful." I wasn't sure if he meant to say that aloud but I crashed my lips onto his, giving up everything i'd been holding back on.
We spent the rest of the night tangled in the sheets.
