CHAPTER 91

Demi's POV 

              I woke up to the sound of my phone ringing. Squinting as my eyes adjusted to the bright screen I saw it was 2 AM, and Nick was calling me. "Nick? What's wrong?" I said in a hushed whisper as I walked into the mini sound booth. I heard shuffling, then he spoke. "I'm sorry it's so late. I just... I miss you a lot." His voice crack and I sighed, "I miss you too Nick, a lot." I heard his ragged breath int he phone, "Nick, are you crying?" He sniffed, "N-No." I smiled at his bashfulness. "What brought this on?" He sighed, "Camp rock... It was on Disney channel and I started to reminisce on all of our fun times, then I thought of us now and how happy I am and how much I miss you. The next thing I know I'm laying in my bed listening to all of your albums on repeat at 2 AM, crying." I giggled, "All of the albums?" I heard him groan, "Sorry sorry! Not the time... Baby I miss you too, every night I have to go onstage and sing the songs I know relate to you and I, and you're not there. Trust me, I know how bad it sucks." Now tears were forming in my eyes. "Demi?" I gulped, trying to hold back a sob. "Yeah?" "Can-" He stopped, "Go on." He sighed, "Can you just sing? I've been looking at youtube videos but it's just not the same." He admitted. I smiled, knowing about much it took for Nick to ask me that. He was always trying to be the strong one and out on a good face, no matter what he was feeling. "What do you want me to sing?" "...Anything/" I sat on the couch and pulled a blanket over me, I heard a shuffle and knew that he too had laid down. 

"Before I fall, too fast. Kiss me quick, but make it last.
So I can see how badly this will hurt me, when you say goodbye.

             I stood onstage and smiled at the cheering crowd, "How're ya'll doing tonight?!" I yelled, they answered back with more screams. "So I have a question, C'mon guys let's get serious." The cheering died down, "Now I don't want you to yell or anything. Just raise your hand." I looked around sternly and a few people laughed. "How many of you, are missing someone." Around the arena, tons of hands flew up. I smiled, "Well tonight, I'm missing someone alot-" "NEMI!" Someone in the audience screamed. I blushed, "Yeah, Nick." Instantly, the entire arena exploded, screaming and fangirling. I sighed,, "But tonight, I want you to let go of that person for just tonight. I want you to put aside your worries and fears of missing that person and just feel and breath and live in the music. Okay? Think of the good memories you've spent with them... Here's my next song." I nodded to the band and they began the beat. 

The space in between us startes to feel like we're worlds apart. 
Like I'm goin' crazy, and you say it's rainin' in your heart

Oh but that's just crazy cause baby I told ya, I'm here for good.

I tried to build the walls to keep you safe when I'm not around. 
But as soon as I'm away from you, you say they come tumblin' down. 
But it's not about the time that we don;t get to spend together. 
It's about how strong our love its, when I'm gone and it feels like forever.

                 I ended the song on my knees. I looked up and smiled through the tears and the crowd in front of me. "I love you guys so much, You're the best fucking fans in the world!

               I hopped offstage and saw Mac running towards me with a huge smile on her face, "Hi momma!" I grinned, and swung her around as I picked her up. "Hey babygirl! Did you like the show?" Mac nodded and squeezed me tightly. I sighed happily, it felt good to have her in my arms again. I carried her to the dressing room and and out her down as I changed, she walked into the bathroom and my phone buzzed. It was Natalie, she had been mobbed in the crowd but was now coming to the dressing room. Just as I slipped out of a shirt and out a sports bra on, there was a knock on the door. "Come in!" I called, wondering why Natalie was knocking. The door opened, "Are you always walking around half-naked?" 

              I turned at the sound of the familiar voice and squealed, "Niall!!" launching myself into his arms. He squeezed me tightly and I felt his move as he laughed, "Hey Dems!" I pulled away with a huge smile on my face, "What are you doing here? And why the hell didn't you tell me you were coming?!" Niall cocked an eyebrow, "And ruin the surprise?" I giggled, and hugged him again, breathing in his scent. "I'm really glad you're here." He stroked my hair, "Me too Dems." 

             Then, the bathroom door opened behind me, "UNCLE NI!" Mac screamed, and ran over. Niall's face lit up and he picked her up, lifting her high above his head while she giggled, :"Hey Mac attack!" Mac threw her head back and laughed as he whirled her through the air, coming to a stop on his hip. She smiled hugely, "You're back!" Niall bopped her nose, "Heck yeah princess! I gotta save you from your mama!" I rolled my eyes as Mac giggled, "Actually we've been doing fine Mr.I'll-just-go-to-the-UK-for-six-months-then-randomly-come-back-without-telling-anyone." Niall cocked an eyebrow and his eyes sparkled, "Dang, how am I supposed to fit that on my driver's license?" I hit his shoulder, "How long are you here for?" Niall shrugged, "Well I have business in New York, which is where your next show is so I figured Id hitch a ride with you!" I cocked an eyebrow and he frowned, looking down. "I mean, That is if you'll let me." I smiled, "Of course Mr.Horan."

                Having Niall here was perfect. It cut any remaining tension between Mac and I, and it was just a better environment. Right now, we were watching 'The Lion King 2.' Mac was curled into Niall's chest entranced in the film. I made eye contact with him and smiled as he hugged her tighter. 

                 When the movies was over Mac whined, wanting to stay up but I tucked her in and made sure she was asleep before I walked back to the couch where Niall was. He opened his arms and I gratefully snuggled into him. Things were so easy with Niall. The conversation flowed from tour life to new music, to the other boys in the bands, the topics never seemed to end. We were silent for a minute before Niall brought up the next topic, "Has he bothered you again?" I tensed, knowing he was talking about Wilmer. "Twice." Niall's hand clenched into fists. "Why didn't you call me?" I sighed, "I had it under control." Niall nodded, but his hands were still balled into fists. I decided to change the subject, "So, you meet any pretty girls on tour?" Niall chuckled, "Nahh, I mean I'm sure I met a lot of pretty girls, but none of them really clicked, ya know?" I nodded and he sighed, "I dunno I just can't see their faces anymore, not since..." He shook his head and looked down, "Not since what?" He smiled, "Not since I met you. I knwo there's no spark and we agreed to be friends, but I always see the little things that remind me of you, so instead of seeing them... I see you." I looked at my hands, "Oh." Niall chuckled, "Yeah, but it's not a big deal. How about you? Meet anyone special? I'm kinda in the dark with the tabloids these days." I chewed on my lip, Niall didn't know about Nick and I. "Well I-" I was cut off by the sound of Mac screaming. 

               "FUCK!"  I jumped off the couch and ran to the bunks, where Mac was squirming and writhing on the sheets, Niall right behind me. I grabbed her shoulders and shook her, "Mac! Wake up!" She continued to scream and yell. With tears now running down my face I grabbed a water bottle and dumped it on her. She sat up sputtering, "NOOOOOO!" She screamed, and burst into tears. I picked her up out of the now wet bunk and brought her over to the couch. She buried her face in my neck as sobs racked her body, "Shhh Mac, it's okay babygirl. I got you. Mommy's got you." I stroked her back and tried to calm her down, "It wasn't real. I promise it wasn't real." She began to take quick short breaths and her entire body shook. "No babygirl. Calm down breath with me." I held her tightly and took slow deliberate deep breaths, "In and out. That's it baby." I coached. After a few minutes Mac pulled back and looked at me through red-rimmed eyes, he lower lip still quivering. "You okay?" She nodded, and snuggled back into my embrace. I rested my cheek on top of her head and looked over at Niall who was standing in the corner in somewhat shock, I smiled at him and he shook his head. "Amazing." He mouthed.
