- A Wake Up Call -
An alarm went off, bringing the night to an end as a figure rolled around in her bed, trying to shake the tinkle of the clock that mercilessly ticked on and on, already a minute past 5.
The woman groaned, still attempting her best to forget about the work she was due today. But the clock wasn't that forgiving.
And another minute crossed by, the figure burying her head inside the softness and warmth of her pillow. But just as the sounds of the alarm began to die out of her earshot-
Her phone went on its daily patrol of making sure she woke her.
Felicia was right not to trust herself to get up early. Because she never does, and that was the reason there were two separate wake up calls for Felicia's drowsy self she sets the day before, every day.
And just a few moments in, the 33 year old silhouette pushed down the button to stop the clamor of the thing which she was having love/hate feelings towards.
She glared at the time it showed.
It showed six past 5, its digital gears stimulating the tick of it's analog brethren.
She pondered why she even thought it was a good idea to buy this device in the first place. Shrugging it off, Felicia made her way to her daily routine.
Finishing off the draft she left behind the night before that day, she looked slightly off and quite pestered. She realized that it was her stomach. It was hungry and in search of it's food. And so, she saved the file, gently closed the laptop on her desk and headed to the kitchen.
She decided on finishing the leftover Spätzle (Egg Noodles) and to cook an omelette with a cup of coffee for the caffeine to wake her up even more.
She took out the box, opened it and emptied it to a small pot, turning the temperature a bit up on her induction stove and set it to a few minutes since she hated food that's scalding hot and preferred somewhere between warm and very warm.
Specifically.
When it started to reheat, she took out the eggs and cracked them open onto another pan and started on the omelettes after throwing the empty shells in the bin, sprinkling pepper and a bit of shredded cheese on top for making it taste different than the noodles.
Felicia also didn't want to eat omelettes with egg noodles. It just sounds weird for her. Thus, the coffee and not her usual juice.
About a few hundred seconds of moving about, spinning the spatula and drinking some water before getting to the grasp that she didn't brush her teeth, she ran into her bath and came back lamenting her existence.
Well, at least she had her food to cool her down...right?
A quarter to 6 went by Felicia slurping the warm noodles and splitting the omelette into small portions to ingest in equal amounts. She finished up and drank the rest of the black liquid, letting out a full stomach's burp-
Not too loud though...
With a smile on her countenance, and with time running out rather fast, she made ready for heading off to the Dias.
And leave out, she did.
Taking the key off the bunch that hung low from the walls of her small hallway entrance, she turned the metallic instrument into the door after she exited her apartment, letting the lock twitch with a stiff click. She didn't bother bolting it but did bother to put on her deep maroon beanie on.
It was plonked on top of her strawberry blonde hair, as she smiled again to herself and walked with her files in hand. It was roughly halfway across June and the temperatures weren't as low as the end of the year but it was still rounding off to 18 degrees outside-
Celsius before anyone asks...
Felicia was more than glad to be rid of the smell of the undone dishes that stacked up as she began to stride into the streets of München-
Munich before anyone asks...
Felicia went down Bogenhausen, and continued to do so, until she reached her destination, the Dias.
*****
Truth be told, it stood out like a sore thumb to the surrounding areas.
Being constructed almost fully out of glass, save the foundations and the frames to place them in, the outer body reflected the scenery around it off the translucent baby blue windows which was not the only thing turning the people in awe, as the intricate designs also hold proof as a sight to the eye.
But as the name as well as the structure of the building implied, the Dias being made up of a large portion of silica also embodied how vulnerable it all was, just like the hierarchy it held.
Take out one piece from the bottom, it all comes toppling down soon after.
The security packed thoroughfare did it's job of keeping unwanted personnel away from the premises, as it gave way to the lobby filled with lawyers and officials that were granted access to this place.
Or just corpses, ready to be taken to either the Morgue the people there call the Icetray or for forensics.
And that was the department Felicia associated with-
Or from the last month.
But it was kind of worth it. After years of studying crime under investigation and graduation being held early for her, she finally landed on the Dias for assisting with forensics. Sighing that was where she placed, Felicia swiped her ID on the wall mounted scanner.
And once the doorway opened to her card, she placed her thumb on the Bio-metrics scanner and pressed her floor to go to.
Even though it ensured security, Felicia always had a fear of being injured or in a fatal condition and being unable to get inside because of the hectic security measures.
She shook off the thought as usual and started swaying to the ding of each floor and found her sapphire eyes gazing out the obvious glass infrastructure of the elevator into each floor with it's few workers buzzing about as she still subconsciously worried about the sanitation drills she has to go through soon after she enters her desk space.
She thought about how insignificant her position was in the pyramid of authority she was, almost somewhere where her status wouldn't be a trouble to be disposed of. Felicia and her team were important as they asses the victims and deduce the situation the most out of all the people there.
They wouldn't mind if she and her team of professional yet jolly members would be to disappear out of thin air.
And because they didn't involve themselves in the more interesting and exhilarating fields they were treated different.
But as soon as the doors slid away to reveal the floor they occupied, a silhouette flied past her, shoving a file on top of her already existing files, yelling a familiar battle cry.
" THEY REFILLED THE DONUTS!!" And they ditched Felicia and ran down the stairs with a-
Was tha- was that a donut?
Oh, it's Claire.
Claire's a foodie. A food enthusiast. A Donut Connoisseur she would often say.
Regardless of how gruesome or creepy it may seem, she's a good individual at heart. With an exasperated reaction on her face first thing inside the office, she walked down to another day at forensics.
And as she found her corner and sat down, she took the old alarm of hers and tuned it to strike seven hours from the moment she sets it off. And as soon as she set it off, a fellow woman Brenda Tailer poked from the top of her desk.
" Mornin' Feli. We got a new assignment. Let me get you the data lowdown in a sec" She called out.
And when she heard that, Felicia sighed and took the alarm once more, resetting it and turning it up three more. It would be a long day.
Brenda entered her desk space and handed it to her, as Felicia switched it for Claire's.
" Did she just?" Felicia nodded, turning to look at the file.
" Female, 23 year old, multiple broken vertebrae, missing skin. Looks like she was experimented with, or tortured just from the looks of it..." Brenda murmured.
" But surprisingly this wasn't an assault or any kind. She's still a virgin if that helps in that theory. We can't say for sure until we work on it" Felicia fell silent for a moment as she looked at the photographs and further details.
The vacuum of noise held it's ground for an uncomfortable period of time. And finally what broke it was Claire entering the atmosphere and looking at it, immediately reacting in a panic.
" W-w-w-w-WHAT ARE YOU DOING SHOWING PICTURES LIKE THAT IN PUBLIC?! FINN'S ONE GRADE A PERVERT!"
" I heard that!" Finn yelled from the other side. But Claire managed to run to the development sector before she was seen.
But Felicia only knew one thing to say, in her state of mind.
" A-Alice..." A sole tear tracked down her left eye without her knowing, luckily out of sight of Brenda next to her and the sprinting Claire.
Her hands trembled, her eyes moving in frantic motion. Her lips quivered as she wiped the liquidated emotion off her person and uttered one specific line.
" where's the body?" Felicia managed to spit in a low voice.
It wasn't clear what her mind was set on but she knew she couldn't believe it until she saw it with her own two eyes.
