~The Mess We Made~

Loki's breath was shallow. It had been all night. I stared at his overly pale skin, and wondered what kind of a father could do something so horrible to his own son. I suppose... the kind that is well protected by guards, and being a king.

I hadn't slept a wink, neither had Frigga. Though she did try to get me to rest. I just couldn't.  I looked over at her red rimmed eyes.

"I can stay with him for a bit. You should try and get some rest." I spoke comfortingly. "We can only help him if we help ourselves first."

She sighed and ran her hand down her face. "You are quite right my dear." She stands and heads to the door. "Call for me when he wakes?"

"Of course." I smile.

She exited the room, and from my seat at Loki's bedside, I watched the sun set through the pillars of the balcony.

I hadn't seen much of Asgard yet, but the rooms I had seen were decked in gold and fancy tapestrys. Even this room which I assume must be Loki's was extravagant. The frame of the bed he now lay on, was made of gold and had dark green curtains on all four sides.

My eyes flickered back to his face, his long dark eyelashes stood out against his pale skin. I lay my hand on his forehead. He was shockingly cold. I hesitated a moment, then pulled back the covers and crawled into the bed with him.

I lay on my side and gently put my head on his chest. Listening to the steady rhythm of his beating heart.

I closed my eyes and all I could see was flames. All I could hear was the screaming of the village. All I could smell was death.

I hadn't even realized I was crying until I felt a gentle hand on my head.

"Sigyn?" Loki asked softly.

"Loki!" I exclaimed, pushing up on my elbow to look at him.

His hand trailed through my hair and down my cheek.

"Am I dead? Oh gods, are we dead?!" He gasped.

"No! No, we're fine..." I stroke his hair off his face.

"What happened?" He asked quietly, his eyes searching my face.

"Well. As far as I know, magic." I replied.

"My mother?" He asks.

I nod, "And mine."

Loki raises an eyebrow, but lets that one go.

"How are you?" We both ask simultaneously.

"You first." I say.

"Well." He chuckles, "My throat feels like I swallowed a dagger, and I'll spare you the details of the venom burns."

I trail my fingers down a scar on his neck, "Your father is a bastard."

Loki coughs out a laugh, "Don't let anyone hear you say that." He smirks.

It's quiet for a moment, I listen to the sound of the gentle breeze through the trees.

"Are we okay?" I ask after a moment, looking at him.

He frowns, "Sigyn you don't have to stay here with me."

"What?!" I exclaim.

He doesn't meet my eyes, grabbing my hand.

He sighs, "I-I lied to you, you married me under false pretenses..."

I shake my head, "Well yes but... I married you, I fell for you not Theoric!"

"I killed him." He admits, his green eyes meeting mine.

A gasp tears from my mouth.

The air is heavy between us. I slump down onto the bed, pulling my hand from his grasp.

"I killed him, and I'd do it again."

His arm tightens around my waist.

I stare at the ceiling.

"There is no way you want me now." He laughs brokenly.

"Loki..."

He sits up and pulls his arm away from me.

"I can take you back to midguard. I can take you to another village. You and Brenna..."

"Loki..."

"No, Sigyn I must make this right."

"LOKI!"

He blinks at me.

"I knew." I whisper.

"What?! How??"

"I just...knew."

His eyes search my face, finding no guile there.

He sighs in relief. "Sigyn, I love you."

I nod, tears filling my eyes.

"And I, you." I reply, gently kissing his lips.
