Violet stretches herself awake as the bright morning sun shines on her face and her bare skin rubs against silk sheets. She inhales sharply and turns on her side, placing her hand flat next to her.

When her palm meets warm skin, she opens her eyes and jolts off her pillow. And that she immediately regrets because her head begins to throb in pain due to how hungover she is. She clearly had too much to drink last night and now she can't seem to remember what happened.

She holds her hand against her forehead and furrows her eyebrows as she stares down at Theo laying beside her. His body is completely unclothed and his hair is a mess, curled over his eyes as his cheek squishes against the pillow.

Theo's hands are folded together under his pillow and his cheeks are flushed red. But the only thing concerning Violet right now is why they're both missing clothes and how she got in his bed?

The last thing she remembers is purchasing furniture and opening a bottle of wine. Yet she finds herself in bed with someone she's been mad at and she's not just in bed, she's in bed naked. Naked with a bad hangover.

Violet moves her hand off Theo's chest and she starts pulling the black sheet off Theo to wrap it around herself as she gets off the bed. Her eyes widen when the sheet slides off his bottom half but she's quick to turn her back to him and rush to the bathroom door.

Her hand wraps around the handle and she uses her other to push it quietly open, not trying to wake the man she's angry to see.

"Oh gosh." she cringes as she walks into the bathroom full of boxers and the smell of men's cologne. "It looks like a boys locker room in here."

She drops the sheet off her body before closing the door behind her and locking it. Her hands grip the edge of the marble sink as she leans forward to look at herself in the big mirror.

Her head falls down tiredly after a couple seconds and she sighs as tears start streaming down her face. It saddens her that her coping mechanism every time something happens to her is drinking until she can't remember. And every time she does, she wakes up with Theo, without clothes.

Tears drops onto the marble countertop as she rinses her mouth with water from the faucet to get the taste of beer out. Guess it's harder to do when Theo doesn't have spare toothbrushes for her. Even after all this time.

Violet continues crying with her head down and her knuckles turning white because of how hard she's gripping the sink. Her heart feels heavy inside her chest and it feels worse to cry sober than it does crying with all that alcohol in her system.

But with alcohol, she knew what she was crying about; now, she just feels like every emotion and sad memory in her mind is working to break her down and she can't seem to know why.

Her body jolts up when the doors handle rattles behind her and before she can use magic to enchant it, the doors being pushed open. By none other than Theo who has a pair of boxers on only and his hand covering his yawning mouth.

"Get out." Violet seethes, her back pressing against the cold sink behind her as he walks closer. "I don't even want to look at you right now."

She feels her stomach churn with just the sight of his face and his happy eyes. Last night is a memory gone from her mind but him giving her away to Thomas for marriage is one she can't forgive him for. His presence alone disgusts her completely because he didn't protect her from any of it.

Her father may have made the decision too but Theo had chances to say no. He could have confessed about his relationship if he really loved her enough but again, he didn't.

"What's wrong?" Theo steps forward to grab her arm but she pulls away. "Violet?"

"Are you kidding me? What's wrong?" she scoffs as her eyes squint angrily at the shirtless man standing before her with sad puppy eyes. "Gosh you practically sold me out! For what?" Violet lifts her chin to look at him now that he's crouched down to her eye level. "What did my father offer in exchange for Thomas to propose to me? Huh? Because the Theodore I know, he loved too much to even let me turn away from him and now you're suddenly prepared to give me up to your son?! What is wrong with you?!"

Theo parts his lips but not even a sound of breath comes out of them, instead he shuts them like that day in her fathers office. He shut them because he knows something she said is true and he's too scared to admit it.

And just that small motion of his lips closing made her gasp instantly. Her head fell to the side as a shocked expression took over her sickly pale face and her eyes watered even more.

"He offered you Head Auror didn't he?" she gulps and shakes her head, making tears drop down her cheeks. "Oh my- You traded me for a fucking job!? I thought –" her breath shakes and she backs away more when Theo tries to caress her cheek. "– I thought you said I was everything you ever wanted! That you needed nothing more than my love! You promised you wouldn't leave me for anything! And you chose a job over me?!"

"I do love you Violet I just –" he closes his eyes for a second and then drops them to the ground like if he's ashamed of his next words. "– I'm so sorry. You have to believe me, I never wanted to hurt you."

"See, you keep saying that, Theodore! And yet you keep hurting me! You keep fucking apologizing and it's never going to stop!" Violet lifts her hand slightly and makes a hoodie appear in her hand before she throws it on to cover up. "You know what the worst part is? It's not the fact that you took the job, but the fact that you didn't have the balls to tell me that you took it."

Theo drops his head and Violet sees the drop of tear fall from under his lashes, making her feel guilty. She can't believe that he makes her feel this weak just by crying in front of her. He makes her soft and it never makes her do the right thing.

So, she moves her hand to his cheek, rubbing her thumb against his freckled skin. He puts his palm over the back of her hand and he lifts his eyes to look at her.

"I don't think this is going to work anymore." Violet sniffles as tears stream down her cheeks and they maintain eye contact with red tear-filled eyes.

Violet takes her hand off his cheek and slowly wraps her slender arms around his neck, pulling his tall body into a hug. He rests his chin on her shoulder and continues crying.

"I fucking hate you so much." Violet whispers as he squeezes her torso in his arms. "But I hate myself more for still loving you too. That's why I can't see you again, not like this."

"Wait, what? No."

Before Theo can say anything else to stop Violet, she pushes him away and finds herself spinning in a cloud of grey smoke. Her arms that were just wrapped around Theo, slowly wrap themselves around her empty torso he was just holding.

Her cheeks are wet with the tears still flowing down one after the other because her heart was just broken in a thousand different ways.

Violets feet touch ground after seconds and she looks around at Draco's old home office in Malfoy Manor. This office being the thing she's finding comfort in these days because of what's under the floor boards.

She walks over to the place where the slab is and she sits crisscross on the ground as she tries to take out the square. Once she grabs it, she tosses it aside and rushes to pick up the engagement ring inside only to stare it for comfort.

The box lays on her palm the way her chin is now resting on her knees that have been brought up against her chest. Her eyes scan the large, sparkly diamond and she finally gets the courage to take it out from the cushion its pushed into.

Her heart is beating because she knows now that this could have been her future if Astoria signed the papers under her.

Violet sets the box aside and slides the silver ring onto her ring finger of her left hand. Her long, slender finger looks perfect with the ring; the color suits her paleness well and it just feels so familiar against her skin.

After just a couple seconds of imaginary happiness, Thomas' voice pulls her out of the dream. She quickly puts everything back inside and just as she puts the slab back in, Thomas stomps into the office.

"Hey, you didn't hear me calling your name?" he throws his arms up but his angry expression changes when her swollen eyes look up at him from the floor. "H-have you been crying again?"

"Again?" Violet shakes her head as she pushes herself up of the ground, her eyes being the same level as his neck. "What do you mean again?"

It didn't take much else for Thomas to figure out that she doesn't remember the moment they shared last night. That this just reminds him how easy he is to forget and that nothing can change between them.

"Forget it." he clears the knot in his throat and adjusts his bow tie. "My mother sent me to let you know that the party is starting soon. Elaine bought you a dress and I left it in uh- in your flat. I didn't know you'd be here until I didn't find you at Nott Manor."

"Did she say we have to leave together? Because I don't like being rushed."

Her coldness hurts Thomas more than expected because not less than seven hours ago, she was holding his hand while they both cried. They were sharing a moment and now here they are, acting like strangers who can't wait to see each other dead.

"For fucks sake Violet, can't you be nice for once and lose that damn attitude?" he turns his back on her and starts for the stair case to leave but Violets stomps cover his as she chases him.

"Hey I'm not done talking to you!" she pushes his back, not making him budge even a little. "Since when do you care about nice when yesterday you walked out on me after telling me off?! Don't be such a hypocrite and make me look at the bad guy."

Thomas turns to face her and he towers over her with his broad body. "Don't fucking lay hands on me like that again Blishen." His words cause her to step back afraid but he steps forward. "Get ready and fuck off."
