Chapter Seven🌶

Melione woke up to the feeling of an arm wrapped around her waist. She looked down and groaned as she remembered what had happened the night before. They shouldn't have happened. It wasn't right. She tried to move out from underneath his arm, but his grip got tighter.

Melione sighed as she rolled over and stared at him. A small smile danced across her lips. He looked happy in his sleep. He looked relaxed. Melione couldn't help but wonder if she looked as peaceful as Grym when she slept.

"Like what you see?" Gryms deep voice chuckled.

Melione rolled her eyes as she pushed against his chest. "Shut up." She pushed harder against him, making him loosen his grip on her just enough so she could move off of the bed. The cold air hit her naked body hard, making her wrap her arms around herself. She yanked a blanket off of the bed and wrapped it around herself. "Stop looking at me."

"I can't help it," Grym answered her. She heard him get off of the bed and move behind her. His hands grazed her hips. "I can't help it." His voice got more profound as his lips grazed her neck.

Melione couldn't help herself as she pushed her ass against him. Her breath caught in her throat as she felt him hard against her. His hands moved to her stomach, making her harder against him. Grym groaned as his hands moved slowly down her core and hovered above her sex.

"Please, Melione," he whispered as his teeth grazed over the sensitive part of her neck.

Melione had to admit that she loved how he said her name. She pushed her ass against him again as she smiled. "Please, Grym." She held back a moan as his right hand went through the blanket and slowly moved over her sex, finding her clit instantly. His other hand pushed the blanket off her shoulders and found her left breast. He pinched and rolled her nipple, causing a moan from her lips.

Melione felt him walk her backward until they were back at the bed. He moved to stand in front of her as he pushed her down onto the bed so she was lying on her back. He got down on his knees at the edge of the bed and grabbed her ankles. A smirk danced across his lips as he pulled her closer to him. Melione bit her lip as she watched him spread her legs and move his mouth closer to her sex. His tongue darted out and slipped through her sex, making her head snap back. He shoved his tongue into her as his fingers found her clit again. She cried out again and again as he continued to devour her.

A knock sounded at the door suddenly, but Grym didn't stop. Melione covered her mouth with her hand to stop her noises. She looked down at Grym and met his eyes. He wasn't going to stop. His eyes snapped over to the door as another knock sounded, this time harder. Grym growled causing vibrations to travel over her sex.

Melione groaned at the sensation. She was close. Extremely close. A quicker and harder knock sounded at the door and a voice came from the other side, "Detective? I've got to examine your friend. Is he in there?"

Grym ran his tongue through her sex one last time before he stood up, stopping her from reaching her climax. She gave him a sharp look as she forced herself to answer the healer, "He went out to look at the village. I'll bring him to you."

They heard the doctor grumble something through the door before his footsteps moved away from them. Once they were sure that he was gone, Grym let out a laugh. Melione noticed how proud he was that he had just edged her, but he wasn't the one who was in charge.

"Grym," she said his name slowly. Melione sat up on her elbows and moved off of the bed, moving closer to him. Grym had stopped laughing as she got closer. Melione stopped in front of him and ran her hands up and down his chest. "You know what you just did was wrong, right?"

Grym nodded slowly, his eyes shining with excitement. "What we've been doing is wrong, Melione."

Melione's smile dropped slightly. What they've been doing was wrong. The realms don't mix. They weren't supposed to. What her and Grym had been doing could get them in a lot of trouble. She stepped away from him, determined now to put some distance between them, moved toward her pile of clothes. She hurriedly pulled them on.

"Melione?" Grym's voice was laced with confusion as he watched her.

"Get dressed, Grym," Melione sighed. She pulled on her jacket over her shoulders and looked at him. "That was the last time. You were right." She turned toward the door. "What we've been doing is wrong."

"But you've got to admit that there's something between us," Grym called after her.

Melione wasn't going to admit that. She did feel some kind of pull between them. The moment that he walked through her front door, she felt a connection with him. She just didn't want to admit it. She stopped with her hand on the handle and looked over her shoulder at him. "Get dressed, Grym. I'm heading to the healer. Meet me there." Melione stepped out without letting him say anything else. She leaned against the door as she closed her eyes, taking a deep breath. She did the right thing. What they were doing was wrong, and they needed to stop.

Melione forced herself to move down the hall and out of the inn. She decides to wait for Grym outside of the inn. Her body was still pulled towards him. She never had in her life felt this way in her life. They fit. They fit together. She couldn't deny what was between them. She looked over at the door as Grym stepped through. He gave her a small smile before he pulled her closer to him.

"I'm not giving up on this, Melione. Do you understand me?" He gripped her chin gently, so she was looking up at him. "I don't want to give up on this."

Melione shook her head. "Grym," she started. "It's wrong."

"I don't care."

Melione moved his hand and took a step back from him. "The realms will care." She turned quickly on her heels and moved toward the healer's house. She heard Grym following behind her, but she ensured she stayed in front of him as they made it to the healer's house. Melione stepped through the door quickly, catching the healer off guard. He threw a knife at her, but she deflected it soon before it was able to reach her face.

"My apologies, detective," the healer scrambled towards her. "You scared me."

"It's alright," Melione answered slowly. She moved further into the small house letting Grym step past her.

The healer reached out for Gryms wrist and pulled him over to a chair, forcing him to sit down. "I wanted to check out you were feeling after your attack."

"I feel fine," Grym answered. He started to stand up, but the healer pushed him back down.

"I need to observe you," the healer growled.

Meliobe took this opportunity to sneak out of the house. She wanted to walk around the village without Gryms presence beside her. She gently closed the door while the two men inside were arguing and took a long look around her.

The village was a complete mess. As she started to walk toward the center of the village, she noticed that it looked as if everyone had to evacuate quickly. Tables and chairs inside of houses were overturned. Doors were still left wide open. Melione couldn't find one single body in the village. Whatever had destroyed this village came after everyone was gone.

"I hope," Melione sighed.

One small house caught her attention. As she drew nearer, she noticed an opaque green ooze flowing down the sides of the house. Melione stuck her head inside of the house, determined to figure out where the goo was coming from, but couldn't find the source. She didn't understand why it was still moving around the house as if it was alive. She moved past the house and began to notice more houses that had the same opaque green ooze flowing down their sides. She was getting closer to the center of the village.

"I'll find whatever is making this ooze there," she murdered to herself. She held out her right hand and conjured a long sword out of her light. She held onto it tightly as she continued to move.

"Thought you could just leave me with the crazy?"

Melione spun around, halting her sword before it made contact with Gryms neck. "Don't fucking scare me like that, Grym." She lowered her sword. "Fuck!" She turned back around and continued to walk. "Did the healer finish checking you?"

Grym fell into step beside her. He removed his own sword and held it down at his side. "Yes, he did. He started to act strange after you ran out."

Melione gave him a sharp look. "How?"

Grym shrugged. "He kept murmuring some language underneath his breath. I don't know what kind of language it was, but it sounded old." They walked in silence for a moment before Grym spotted one of the houses with the green ooze. "What caused this?" He walked up to the house and held his sword out to it. The tip was barely touching the ooze before it began to creep up the metal. Grym jumped back and shook what had crawled up his sword off. "It's alive?"

Melione shook her head as she shrugged. "That's what I gathered. I have no idea what kind of creature could produce this sort of ooze. Especially something alive." Melione looked closer at the house's wood and noticed three long claw marks carved into the wood. "What could have left this?"

"An aurasnake?" Grym asked as he looked closer. "The healer did talk about his experiment with a baby aurasnake, remember? He wouldn't stop talking about his guilt."

Melione shook her head. "A baby aurasnake wouldn't have been able to leave these significant claw marks." She leaned back. "I don't know what could have left these." She turned and continued to walk further into the village when Grym stopped her. She looked over to where he was pointing, and her eyes opened wide. She moved closer to the wall Grym pointed at and reached out. At first, she thought that claw marks were carved into the wood, but she wasn't so sure now. What was carved into the wood almost looked like some language. She didn't know what it said, but it was old. "Do you-"

Melione was interrupted when the healer came running past them and slammed himself into the wall. He started to murmur something coherent. Grym pulled Melione back and whispered in her ear. "That's the language he was talking in at the house."

Melione stared down at the healer in shock as the man slid down the wall onto his knees and bowed down. She forced herself to move her feet. Kneeling next to the healer, she placed a hand on his shoulder and asked him, "Do you know what this says?'

The healer's face snapped up to her. His eyes were white and wide as he stared deep into her eyes. "The Devil's footprint," he whispered. His eyes snapped over to Grym for a moment before returning to look at her. "Stay out of their way, detective. You have no idea the power that they hold." He turned away from her and continued to murmur in the strange language.

Melione walked back over the Grym and pulled him further away from the healer. "He says that the language on that wall is from The Devil's Footprint."

Grym's eyebrows furrowed. "Who's the Devil's Footprint?"

Melione looked back over to the healer for a second before returning to Grym. "They're a myth. The Devil's Footprint doesn't exist. The cult died out centuries ago from the Burning Providence. They weren't able to continue their teachings with everyone leaving."

"Wouldn't they have moved into the other territories?"

Melione shook her head. "No, they wouldn't. They believe that their god is the true god and that he resides in the Burning Providence. They don't believe that Rhivbus is head over all the gods. They wouldn't have left the territory where their god lives."

Grym nodded his understanding. "Who is their god?"

Melione srugged one shoulder. "No one knows. It's rumored to be that they want every single one of the gods and diety's dead."

"If they're still around, maybe they could be the reason behind the murders. Maybe we should ask-" Grym stopped short of his sentence. "Where the hell did he go?"

Melione turned around to see the healer had disappeared. "We've got to find him." She started walking toward the village square.

"There aren't any bodies," Grym pointed out as he fell into step beside her.

"Whatever destroyed this village came in after everyone fled." Melione looked around. The houses and ground around them were covered in the green ooze. She followed the ooze, hoping to find where it was coming from.

"Well," Grym whistled. "Whatever was here, is fucking strong."

Melione nodded slowly as she took in the sight in front of her. A huge, decaying horned dragon laid in the center of the village square. Green ooze flowed around and over it, looking as if it was eating the flesh off of the dragon. Melione wanted to get closer to observe the body, but she wasn't about to step in any of the ooze. If it truly was eating at the dragons body, she didn't want it touching her. "The healer isn't going to be here," she murmured. "Let's head back to his house."

They both turn back around and head quickly back to the healers house. Melione slowly opened up the door and jumped out of the way as three knives came flying at them once again.

"What the hell?" Grym yelled as he jumped back up to his feet. His hand beside his sword.

"I-I apologize," the healer stumbles. He pushes furniture out of the way as he continues to look for whatever it was that he was looking for. "You can't be here. Neither of you."

"We need to ask you a couple of questions," Melione starts slowly. She holds up her hands and motions for Grym to do the same. "We're not going to hurt you, but we need some answers."

The healers eyes darted back toward the door and windows. "You can't be here. You can't be here."

Melione looks over at Grym for a moment before she returned her attention back to the healer. She tries to lung at him, but it was too late. The healer had slit his throat and crumbled to the ground.
