Combat Training's Gonna Be Electrifying

Hope you guys enjoy this chapter

As they had predicted the day before, regular classes in the morning were nothing short of... boring. Midoriya noticed that Bakugo had closed his eyes in the middle of English class and somehow dodged from being called out by Present Mic. Not that he would be bothered. Knowing Bakugo, the spiky blonde had probably prepared himself at least half a term in advance.

Lunch time was less boring, with Midoriya practically geeking out over the fact that lunch was prepared by the Cook Hero: Lunch Rush.

After lunch, well, that was what everyone was looking forward to. Especially when...

"I AM–"

Every student of 1-A whipped their heads towards the door, excited smiles on their faces as they recognized the iconic voice.

"–COMING THROUGH THE DOOR LIKE A NORMAL PERSON!"

All Might bursted into the class, his arms clinging on the door frame as he leant forward as if he was in a dramatic romance musical. His entrance drew awestruck reactions from 1-A.

"It really is All Might! He really is a teacher here!"

"That's his Silver Age costume!"

"Its style is so different, I'm getting goosebumps!"

All Might, who had waltzed up to the teacher's podium while the students murmured excitedly with each other, placed each hand by the hips and puffed his chest, making himself appear bigger than his already overwhelmingly muscular stature.

"I'll be your teacher for hero basics training!" He announced, his iconic enthusiasm never once skipping a beat. "It's a subject where you train in different ways to learn the basics of being a hero. This subject carries the most credit for you."

Midoriya felt his heart beat in his chest. The Number One Hero in Japan – no, the fricking world – is in UA, training them in Hero work.

The Number One Hero.

The Symbol of Peace.

All Might.

At this rate he would be lying if he wasn't geeking – freaking inwards at this point.

"Alright let's get right into it! Today we'll be conducting Combat Training!" All Might pulled out a card and showed it to the class. The word 'BATTLE' was printed in bold red. He then pointed to the left wall of the class. "And you'll be needing these!"

As if on cue, several sections in the wall slid out, revealing numbered cases arranged neatly in each of them.

"Inside these cases are your costumes made based on your Quirk registration and requests you sent in before school started." All Might explained. He turned towards the exit. "Once you've changed, gather in Ground Beta!" to a chorus of "Yes, Sir!"

BREAK

Midoriya felt his gauntlet tighten with a final click. His hero costume mainly consisted of black and grey armor that protected his entire body, save for a glowing emerald light located in the center of his chestplate. The armor plates covering his body are angular and segmented. He tried moving his fingers and arms, and was slightly surprised by how much maneuverability he was allowed for a suit of armor.

It was from the suitcase his mother handed to him the day of the Sludge Villain incident. It was what his dad said to give him when he was ready. As confusing as it was that his dad somehow knew he wanted to be a hero, and had the exact armor built to his exact measurements as a teen, Midoriya had a sense of deja vu when he saw the meteor-shaped emblem imprinted just underneath his collar.

While not the most fashionable, he was certain it was the most technologically advanced. At least, he thought so. His other classmates had to manually wear and fasten their costumes, Midoriya's costume somehow has its own latch on feature when he placed the armor parts on his body.

At that moment, he realized he was the only student in the locker room and quickly dashed out to Ground Beta.

By the time he arrived, All Might was standing at the entrance. "They say the clothes make the man, young men and ladies! Look alive now! Because from today, you're all heroes!" The Number One Hero's signature smile was on full display as he spoke. "Well, shall we begin, you zygotes?!"

"Oh, Deku!" Midoriya turned to see Uraraka walking towards him, and internally he wondered why on gods' green earth his father didn't have the foresight to add a helmet to go along with his suit. It would have helped cover his cheeks that were no doubt turning beet red from the blood rushing to them. "Your costume looks cool!"

Uraraka smiled nervously and scratched the back of her head. "I guess I should've written what I wanted... Mine ended up being a skintight bodysuit. It's embarrassing."

On the contrary, Midoriya felt her costume – a black and pale pink bodysuit accompanied with matching deep pink accessories consisting of round gauntlets with handles and chunky knee-high boots – made her look very cute. Her tinted visor gave her an astronaut theme.

In the midst of the boy's struggle to find his words, he failed to notice a pair of light blue eyes staring at him intently.

"Mr All Might, sir!" A figure in white armor raised his hand, who Midoriya immediately recognized to be Iida. "This is one of the battlegrounds from the entrance exam. Will we be conducting urban battles again?"

All Might brought up two fingers. "No, we'll be moving forward by two steps. While most of the battles with villains are outside, when you look at the numbers you'll see that the atrocious villains appear indoors at a higher rate."

"The truly cunning evildoers hide in the shadows and conduct their dastardly schemes there in this hero filled society." He explained further. "For this class you'll be split into groups of heroes and villains and will fight 2-on-2 indoor battles."

"What about foundational training?" A girl with long dark sea-green colour and a frog-like face asked, which All Might quickly replied.

"This is foundational training!"

That opened the floodgates.

"How will you determine who wins or losses?"

"Can I just blow them all up?!"

"Is there a threat of expulsion like with Mr Aizawa's exercise?"

"How do we choose our teams?"

"Isn't this cape fantastic?"

The sudden barrage of questions seemed to have overwhelmed All Might as he trembled in his place, but the new teacher took it in stride. At least, he tried to. "Hnn~ I'll try to answer all your questions!"

Green eyes watched on with curiosity as All Might pulled out a piece of paper from his pocket.

"Listen up! In this situation, the villains have hidden a nuclear weapon somewhere in their hideout. The heroes are trying to destroy that," it took Midoriya a moment to realize that All Might was reading from a script. "To win, the heroes need to either catch the villains or recover the nuclear weapon back within the allotted time. The villains need to protect the nuclear weapon for the whole time or catch the heroes."

To Midoriya, the scenario sounded very American-esque.

All Might pulled out a yellow box that was labelled lots. "Teams and opponents will be determined by drawing lots!"

"They're being decided so haphazardly?" Iida asked in shock.

Midoriya had a theory for that. "Pros often have to create makeshift teams with heroes from other agencies, so maybe that's why?"

"I see," Iida processed the logic, finding no fault in the justification. "The discernment to look ahead..." He gave All Might a deep bow. "Please excuse my rudeness!"

"Don't mind!" All Might consoled, then spun around and pumped a fist in the air. "Alright! Let's get this started!"

The students surrounded All Might – much to Iida's chagrin – as they drew lots to find out their team pairings. Midoriya, staying at the back of the crowd, was the last to pull from the box.

"Young Midoriya," he was about to open the strip of paper in his hands when All Might called to him. Turning around, Midoriya noticed that All Might's smile wasn't as wide as it usually was, his lips not reaching his eyes as he would on TV. "Your costume. Did– did you design it yourself?"

Among many things, Midoriya had not been expecting that question. In the corner of his eyes he noticed that Bakugo was eyeing them with a raised eyebrow. He decided to be as honest as he could. "N–no. I actually got it from my father."

The answer appeared to have pleased All Might, though his smile did not widen. He gave a light nod before dismissing Midoriya.

Thinking none of the interaction, the teen unfolded his paper. "Huh, I'm on Team A."

"Deku, are you on Team A as well? Wow! It must be fate" Uraraka jumped in, her face practically beaming comparable to the sun. "I'm counting on you!"

Midoriya Izuku's brain decided at that moment to disconnect from the rest of his body. Part of the greenette didn't know if he was lucky or not to have been drawn into a team with the bubbly girl. Seriously?! I have to speak, or else–

"The first teams to fight will be..." All Might left his announcement hanging to create a sense of suspense as he shoved both his hands into two other boxes – one black and another white – and pulled out two balls. The black ball was labeled 'D' while the white ball had 'A' painted on it. "– these guys!"

Green eyes widened when he realized he was on the Hero side. Hmm. Our opponent's Team D, that means we're up against...

"Hey, do you wanna grab a bite to eat after school? What do you like?"

"Kaminari! Now is not the time to be fraternizing with our would-be enemy!" Iida lectured the boy with a lightning motif at the front of his yellow hair, who had appeared right next to Uraraka and Midoriya without the green-haired boy noticing.

"Sure, sure!" the boy – Kaminari – waved off Iida's nagging lazily. Yellow eyes landed on Midoriya, and Kaminari grinned. "Midoriya, right? Kaminari Denki. That's some cool suit you got, especially that cool self-latching feature. Let's make this match fun, eh?"

Midoriya grinned in reply. "Sure!"

"Everyone else, head towards the monitor room!" All Might ordered, his enthusiasm seemingly returned. That earned a chorus of 'Yes, sir!' from his students.

"Villains, you have five minutes to set up!" All Might explained as they stopped in front of a pale green ordinary looking office building. "After that, the heroes will break in, and your battle commences!"

"Young Iida, Young Kaminari," both teens turned to their teacher. "Learn to think from the perspective of the villains. This is pretty close to a real battle. Go all out, don't be afraid to get hurt. But–" he crossed his arms. "If things go too far, I will stop it!"

"Understood!"

Having made sure that Team D entered the building, All Might turned towards Team A and handed them each a piece of paper. "Here's the floor plan of the building. Take note of spots where they could hide the weapon, and more importantly, places that are potential traps. Good luck!"

Both Midoriya and Uraraka watched as All Might dashed to join the other students in the monitor room. Uraraka gave the floor plan a once over before letting out a sigh. "It's a lot of work to memorize the floor plan. But All Might is just the same as when he's on TV. Unlike Mr Aizawa, it looks like there's no punishment, we can relax– YOU'RE NOT RELAXED AT ALL!"

When Uraraka turned towards Midoriya, the greenette was in a mumble spree. "Iida's speed would work best in long corridors, where he can build up his speed. This building's the perfect place for him, so if the villains want to send an advanced guard, he'll be the one we're encountering first–"

"Earth to Deku? Deku? Are you there?"

"HUH?!" Midoriya nearly jumped out of his skin. He turned towards Uraraka and noticed that she was looking at him expectantly. He tried to form a sheepish grin. To Uraraka it looked like a chagrin. "Sorry, what was your question?"

"Do you have some kind of plan in mind?"

Midoriya spared a glance at the floor plan once more, noting that the large space in the highest floor and he remembered observing something particular about Kaminari's quirk during the Quirk Test the day before. "I might actually have something..."

"Alright, let's start the indoor combat training with Team A and Team D!" All Might announced into their headset. "Heroes, you may launch your assault!"

BREAK

Bakugo watched as Midoriya and Round Face entered the building through a side window.

"Hey, Kirishima, who do you think is gonna win this?" He heard one of the girls at the front of the crowd asking.

"My bet's on Iida!" The reply came from a boy standing next to him. Spiky hair dyed in ridiculous red, Bakugo noticed that the boy – Stupid Hair – spotted dark red gear shoulder pads and baggy red pants. "Did you see how fast he can go?!"

"It is not wise for a hero to be gambling," another girl with a high ponytail chided. "Though it does seem that the villain team may have the advantage."

Bakugo felt his left eye twitch. Then he remembered something particular about Quirk that belonged to the idiot with yellow hair on Four-Eyes' team.

"Deku wins."

He didn't realize he had spoken his thoughts aloud until he saw that half of the class was staring at him in bewilderment, as if hearing him speak for the first time.

"That's an awfully presumptuous conclusion" Ponytail commented. "The simulation has just started, and then we need to consider the fact that none of us are familiar with each other's Quirk. Shouldn't we let the teams battle it out first before coming to a conclusion?"

In response, Bakugo pointed at the screen showing the yellow haired boy. "Sparky's quirk is electricity, right?"

As if trying to decipher his question, Ponytail turned to where he was pointing. "If you are referring to Kaminari, then yes."

Satisfied with the answer, Bakugo lowered his hand and grunted before turning his attention back to the main screen.

The rest of the class were looking at Bakugo, hoping that the spiky blonde would have some explanation. It took them around ten seconds to realize that he had no intentions to entertain any questions, they too returned to watching the combat training.

BREAK

"No sign of the villain nor the weapon," Midoriya observed as they completed their search of the second floor and started making their way up the third floor. "It's most likely that they've placed the weapon at the–" He heard the revving first, and green eyes catching a glimpse of yellow spark in the far end of the corridor was all Midroiya needed.

"Look out!" He yelled as he pulled Uraraka away right before a white blur zipped past them.

"Finally, heroes," Iida spoke as he walked out of the cloud of dust that his speed had kicked up. "I was wondering when you would show up!"

"Umm... Iida? Why do you sound like that?" Uraraka asked.

"This is my normal voice!" Iida snapped, and Midoriya found himself agreeing with Uraraka. Iida's voice had taken a higher pitch. "This is the voice of the embodiment of true evil!"

Oh... so that's why...

"Pfftt!" Uraraka couldn't stop herself from laughing at Iida's ridiculous conduct.

"Mock me more, heroes!" Iida pointed at Uraraka. "It will be the last time you ever laugh!"

"Uraraka, you need to find the weapon," Midoriya whispered. Before she could protest, he continued "It's better if we split now. I'll handle Iida."

With a nod, Uraraka took off, running up towards the stairs as fast as her legs could carry her. Iida moved to intercept, but Midoriya put himself between the faux-villain and the stairs.

Sure. It would be easier to take on Iida with a numerical advantage, but time was of the essence. Iida probably set out to find the hero team to start a fight and run down the clock. Turning it into a one-on-one would force the speedster to rush the fight in order to try and support Kaminari.

Which opens him to mistakes. Like the monologue he was about to spew out

"Sending Uraraka to find the weapon was a clever move, but I have told Kaminari to remove any items that she can use her quirk on. You think you can handle me alone, hero?" Iida chuckled as he curled his fingers into a fist. He crouched forward slightly, and the engines in his calves revved to life once more. "You will come to see that decision will cost you... dearly."

At this point Midoriya was certain Iida was enjoying the villain role a little too much. The laugh he let out was way too uncomfortably evil.

Iida dashed forward, tackling his opponent and lifting him as he ran. He carried Midoriya as fast as he could by the shoulder, fully intent to throw Midoriya out of the building.

I'm sorry, Iida... Just as they were about to reach the other end of the building, Midoriya swung himself around and planted both feet on the ground, halting Iida's progress. The speedster didn't have time to register the sudden change, as Midoriya landed a knee into his helmet before throwing the armored boy onto the wall behind them. The slam wasn't hard enough to knock Iida out, but enough to leave him dazed as he collapsed to the floor.

"Deku? Is everything okay?" Uraraka's voice buzzed into Midoriya's earpiece. "I heard a loud crash."

Midoriya acted fast and wrapped the capture tape around Iida's wrists. Satisfied with his handiwork, he reached for his earpiece. "Uraraka, how is it going?"

"The weapon's not on the fourth floor. I'm just outside the fifth floor."

"I'll join you. Iida's been captured." He spared a glance at the aforementioned friend and noticed a huge indent on his helmet. Midoriya cringed slightly at the damage he dealt and apologized again before running off to the stairs.

He found Uraraka at the top of the stairs leading to the highest floor. They shared a look with each other. Midoriya kicked the door open and they rushed in. They found Kaminari standing in the middle of the room. The weapon, a giant black and red missile, was right behind him.

Kaminari turned at the noise. Yellow eyes widened upon seeing the two heroes. "If you're here, that means Iida's been captured, right?" He threw his head back in frustration. "Aw, man, and here I was hoping for an easy win!"

"You should surrender now, villain," Midoriya suggested. A part of him knew Kaminari wouldn't take up the offer, another part of him felt weird for calling his Hero Course classmate a villain.

The former was validated when he saw the smile forming on Kaminari's face. Sparks of electricity flickered at the tip of his fingers. "Well, I guess I'll just have to take you both down then!"

Midoriya rushed forward at that, with Uraraka following closely behind. She tapped her fingers together. Kaminari lifted his arms into the air. "Indiscriminate Shock–"

Green eyes widened when he saw the electricity grow to wrap around Kaminari's arms.

"Five Hundred Thousand–"

Uraraka's feet left the ground as she floated into the air.

"–Volts!"

Kaminari slammed his arms onto the ground, charging the entire ground and everything touching with unnatural amounts of electricity.

Uraraka, safe from being electrocuted, turned towards Midoriya on reflex. "Deku!"

Kaminari looked up. He had toned down his output by more than half, but the high voltage would definitely incapacitate Midoriya. The weapon's papier-mâché – at least according to Iida, whatever that means – so he could only guess that it's not conductive.

Except, Midoriya kept running forward even when the electricity wrapped his body. Before Kaminari could react, a strong fist connected with his jaw and the blonde was sent sprawling to the ground. His vision turned black and the electricity dissipated, and Midoriya got to binding his opponent.

"Release!" Uraraka tapped her fingers together again, and she felt her body being pulled by gravity once more. She spread both arms and legs out as she landed right on top of the weapon.

"The Hero team..." All Might's voice blasted into the earpiece as he built up hype for his announcement. "WINS!"

BREAK

"Wait! Isn't his quirk enhanced strength?!"

"Yeah! How the heck did he manage to not get electrocuted?!"

"It's the suit! It has to be the suit! It's a cheat code!"

"Now, now, young heroes," All Might raised a hand as a signal for the students to calm down. "It is unwise to be making hasty speculations! You will get your chance to direct your questions to the participants." The quartet from the first combat trial returned and blue eyes noticed some students turning towards them. "After we've completed our assessment of the battle. Now, will the four students proceed to the front?"

That quelled the brewing excitement. As much as it pained the Number One Hero to do it, he needed to make sure the class moved as smoothly as possible. As the four lined up in front to receive feedback, All Might cleared his throat and turned to the rest of the class. "With the result, the MVP for this battle was Young Uraraka!"

There were gasps from some of the students. The student with large eyes in a suit not unlike a frog – All Might recognized her as Asui Tsuyu – stepped forward "Shouldn't Midoriya be the MVP? He did take down two villains."

The Number One Hero's smile didn't falter. "Hmmm... Well... Why?" He drawled as he began swaying left and right in a comical manner. "Is anyone able to guess why?!"

"Sir, if I may," the girl with a high ponytail raised her hand. All Might remembered reading her student file. One of the recommendation students.

"Go ahead, Young Yaoyorozu!"

"That is because she is the one who adapted the quickest in the context of the training," the girl – Yaoyorozu Momo – began. "It is true that Midoriya was the one responsible in apprehending both villains, but a lot could be attributed to him being able to take them by surprise. Splitting the Heroes up was a risky approach, and it would have backfired in their face had Iida subdued Midoriya."

"The villains' plan to send out a vanguard in Iida was the sounder strategy as narrow and long corridors suit his speed Quirk, though criticism could be directed towards him as he tried to throw Midoriya out of the building instead of subduing him on the spot."

"Kaminari, on the other hand, launched a large-scale attack indoors. It was foolish even for a desperate villain. If he had treated the papier-mâché as a real weapon, he would not have done something so dangerous."

Iida and Kaminari, both pressing ice bags onto their bruising faces, looked at the ground sheepishly, Kaminari more so than Iida.

"Uraraka stuck to the plan, and focused on the main objective. Once she confirmed the weapon's location, she did not force an earlier engagement with Kaminari so the Hero team could press their numerical advantage. She even created a high-low scenario with her Quirk that ensured they would reach the weapon even if Kaminari managed to stop Midoriya."

Uraraka felt her cheeks redden slightly as she whispered a soft but still audible "thank you."

All Might shuddered. He quickly cleared his throat, "Of course there were a few pointers here and there where you guys could improve, but well," he directed a thumbs up at Yaoyorozu, "that is correct!"

He would not admit out loud that she had said even more than he had planned. Recommendation students are impressive and scary. Mostly scary. He did a quick glance through on the damage report of Building A from the school's support bot system. No real damage to speak of. That's good. He brought out the black and white boxes again. "Alright everyone!" His voice boomed across the room. "Let's start the second match. We'll be using Building A again!"

BREAK

Midoriya watched as the boy with red and white hair and the other with six arms waited patiently outside Building A for the Battle Trial to commence. If he remembered correctly, All Might had stated their names were Todoroki Shoto and Shoji Mezo, respectively.

"Hey! Midoriya!" The greenette turned upon hearing his name and was greeted by a spiky red-head with a sharp toothy smile with gears as shoulder pads. "Kirishima Eijiro! Man, you sure got fired up just now!"

"Yea! You have amazing reflexes!" A girl with pink hair and skin was hopping with excitement. "I'm Ashido Mina by the way!"

"Now that you guys went all out the first match," a burly boy with thick lips in a yellow full-body suit added with a confident grin, "there's no way I'm gonna slack off when it's my turn! I'm Rikido Sato by the way"

Midoriya was feeling overwhelmed with the attention he was getting. He stammered, trying to find the words to reply but also unable to figure out who to reply first without coming off as rude. Fortunately, Iida came to his rescue.

"All of you, please do not surround Midoriya like that! You're invading his personal space!"

The small group complied, but their enthusiasm remained intact. Another boy with chin length black hair spiked downward joined them. "Sero Hanta. I still can't believe you tanked Kaminari's electric attack like that!"

Kirishima nodded. "Yeah! I thought for sure you were done for!"

"Is it your suit?!" A purple-haired boy asked by literally jumping in front of Midoriya to get his attention. Midoriya heard Iida calling him 'Mineta' as the bespectacled boy chastised him.

"It's not my suit," the broccoli head shook his head as he scratched the back of his neck. He was about to elaborate further when All Might grabbed everyone's attention by announcing that the second battle trial was about to begin.

Midoriya decided he would put his explanation at the back of his mind and observe his classmates battle it out.

It's always nice to get to know who you're spending the rest of the year with, after all.
