Bird, Cat, Vikk (Sidemen)

Warnings - None

Main Character(s): Vikk

(Based on the "Birds" prompt by @SpicyKiwiWrites ... I kind of forgot about the fact it was supposed to be about birds until I finished it... So sorry if this kind of sucks!)

Simon has told everyone about the bird outside of his window. The bird, according to Simon, constantly flew onto the perch of his window and start chirping. Very loudly. Simon has yelled at it in some of his videos as well, and when asked about it, Tobi confirmed about the obnoxious bird. But regardless of Simon's yelling, the bird won't leave him alone.

While Vikk hasn't seen the bird, nor has he heard it, he believed Simon about the pest. Vikk often sees some kinds of birds in their backyard, though they don't usually chirp as loud as Simon claims the other one is. Seeing as there were one or two trees around the side of their house, Vikk could see a bird hopping onto one of the branches and being loud enough for Simon to hear it.

Now, as Vikk sat at his desk editing his latest video, he couldn't help but be intrigued by a loud chirping coming from outside of his window. He slid his headphones off of his head, wondering if he was just hearing things. The thought was squashed by the sound of chirping again, shrill and loud.

A small frown on his face, Vikk got out of his chair and stepped toward the window, almost wanting to cover his ears from the chirps. He parted the window curtains, and he opened his window, looking for the loud bird.

Aha!  Vikk thought, spotting the bird on a tree branch that hung by Vikk's window, the bird's head up as it chirped, flapping its wings as if in panic. Vikk rose an eyebrow, and curious, he looked for what might have possibly spooked the bird. After searching for a moment, he could have sworn that he saw a shape climbing up the tree. Looking closer at it, he realized that it was a cat.

The cat's striking white fur contrasted with the tree's brown bark and it stalked up the tree, and looking back at the bird, Vikk realized that the bird seemed to be looking right at it. That's when Vikk realized. The cat wanted the bird for lunch.

Vikk was about to yell at the cat when the bird let out a loud chirp and flew off of the branch.

Vikk tensed as he realized that it was heading for his window.

Vikk leapt back with a surprised yelp as the bird shot through his window, flying around his room in a panicked frenzy, chirping its head off. Vikk, not knowing what to do, froze up when he heard a loud yowling from outside, and he looked to see the white cat race across the branch where the bird had previously been sitting, before jumping off towards Vikk's window.

The cat, now in Vikk's room as well, began to run around the bedroom in pursuit of the bird, occasionally jumping up and trying to swipe at the bird with its paws.

"H-Hey!" Vikk shouted, before running over and scooping up the cat from the floor in his arms. The cat hissed and yowled as it tried to worm its way out of Vikk's arms. "Stop, stop! Come on! You can't eat the bird!"

The cat finally stopped struggling, and became limp in Vikk's arms, as if giving up. Looking up at the panicking bird, Vikk tried to calm it down.

"Hey! Calm down; just stop flying for two seconds! He won't-"

The cat let out an angry hiss.

"Okay, she won't bite!"

To Vikk's surprise, the bird listened, flying for a few seconds before finally landing on Vikk's bed, the bird tilting its head and looking expectantly up at Vikk.

"Uhh...." Vikk said, his voice trailing off. He didn't actually expect that to work. Looking down to the cat in his arms, he added, "Look, how about I let you down, and if you don't eat our bird friend here, I'll find you something to eat?"

There were a few moments of silence before the cat let out a quiet meow, as if in agreement. Reluctantly, Vikk kneeled and let go of the cat, flinching as the cat ran out of his arms and jumped onto the bed. He sighed in relief when he saw the cat sit neatly next to the bird, her tail wrapped around her paws.

I can't believe that I seriously just negotiated with a cat... one that jumped through my window nonetheless. Vikk thought as he stood. He was about to make his way to the kitchen when he stopped halfway through his door. Turning back to the animals, he pointed to the bird, and said "Don't be loud." He then pointed to the cat and slowly said, "Do. Not. Eat. Him."

With that, Vikk left the room, the door clicking quietly behind him.

As he stepped into the kitchen, Vikk immediately started to dig through the fridge in search of food for his two new animal friends. Speaking of...

What am I going to tell the others? Vikk thought, We agreed on not getting any pets, since we couldn't agree on what animal to get. I know Josh wanted a dog, though he might not really care. But JJ hates cats... and Simon won't be happy to find that I decided to keep his "arch-nemesis".

Vikk sighed loudly, and closed the fridge, holding some stale bread for the bird, tuna for the cat, and a banana for himself. Throwing them onto a plate, Vikk also filled a bowl with water, for the bird and cat.

"What do you got there Vikk?"

Vikk jumped in surprise, turning to see Josh leaning in the kitchen doorway, an eyebrow raised as he looked at the food and water in Vikk's hand.

"U-Uh, just some food. You know, I'm just really hungry all of the sudden." Vikk stuttered.

Josh had a small smile tugging at his lips as he said, "That bread has been in our fridge for weeks."

"So what if I like stale bread?" Vikk said with a shrug of his shoulders, trying not to giggle at his own stupid comment.

Josh chuckled, looking at Vikk like he was crazy. "But, why did you put water in a bowl?"

"Don't judge my drinking habits!" Vikk shouted with a stomp of his foot for emphasis. He needed to get upstairs fast, before the cat even had the thought of eating the bird again.

Josh shrugged. "Anyways, I didn't come to ask about that. I heard some racket up in your room, and I was wondering what it was. Were you filming or somethin'?"

Vikk nodded, happy that Josh seemed to practically make an excuse for him. "Yeah, I was just playing ARK, and I died a lot, so I just raged a bit. Knocked some stuff off my desk on accident."

Josh gave Vikk a long, hard stare, but just sighed. "All right. Leave me to make my food in peace, and you get back to your...raging." Vikk frowned, opening his mouth to say something before changing his mind. It was obvious that Josh didn't believe him, but Vikk decided to deal with that later.

Hurrying back upstairs, and doing his best not to drop anything, he walked back into his room. When he opened his door, he was relieved to see that the bird and cat were sitting in the same spots, the cat looking at Vikk with her eyes narrowed, and the bird tweeting happily at the food Vikk held.

Shushing the bird, not wanting him to attract the attention of his housemates/Simon, Vikk put the food and water on the floor, both of the animals jumping off of the bed and helping themselves to the meal. Vikk sat on the end of his bed, looking at the feasting animals with a small frown.

Vikk was pretty sure that the cat was a stray because of the lack of a collar around her neck and by her long, fluffy, unkempt white fur. She had amber eyes, and when the cat looked back up Vikk while eating the tuna, it felt like her gaze went right through him.

The bird had brown feathers, with softer white feathers on his throat and belly. He was constantly waddling around with his stubby legs, his beak taking swift pecks at the bread as he ate.

"I guess I should probably name you guys, huh?" Vikk mumbled underneath his breath.

Vikk bit his lip, trying to think of suitable names for the two. After a moment, he pointed to the cat, and said, "I'll name you Star, because that's a pretty name, I guess. You like it?"

The cat meowed in response, and Vikk realized that she probably didn't care what he called her as long as he gave her food. Laughing, he pointed at the bird. "I'm going to name you Minter. Not that you knew your worst enemy's name anyway, but still."

Minter didn't react, instead continuing to peck furiously at his food. Vikk smiled as Star walked toward him and rubbed herself against her leg with a loud purr. Vikk reached and scratched behind her ears, making her purr louder.

Now... what am I going to tell the guys?

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The next morning Vikk awoke to the sound of tweeting.

He groaned, not wanting to get up, sleepiness tugging at the back of his mind. He could feel something on his chest as well, and as he put his hand over his chest, feeling fluffy fur under his fingers. Sighing, he figured that it was just Star, and he tried to go back to sleep. He flinched as another loud, shrill chirp filled the air.

Opening his eyes, Vikk tried to sit up, pushing at the cat on his chest. Looking down at it, Vikk let out a surprised scream as the cat looked up at him.

It wasn't Star on his chest, but instead a tabby cat, who jumped off of his chest and ran off of the bed. Vikk's gaze followed the tabby, and he screamed again at what he saw.

Covering his room, on the floor, his desk, his chair, even the end of his bed, were cats.

There were all kinds of cats, tabby cats, toms, she-cats, brown cats, small cats, big cats... a whole assortment, all in Vikk's room.

Vikk's jaw dropped open, in shock of the dozens of cats that all glared up at him. He heard another tweet and he looked to see that Minter was sitting on top of Vikk's computer monitor, his chest rapidly falling and rising and his head flickering back and forth like he was about to have a panic attack. Vikk could understand, as he would feel the same way if he were surrounded by his natural predator.

Speaking of, Vikk looked over to the window (where cats were sitting as well), and he let out a loud groan of frustration when he realized that it was open. Regardless, Vikk was unable to process the thought of all these cats wandering in his room during the night. It just wasn't possible! Unless...

"Star!" Vikk shouted, spotting the white-furred feline sitting on his desk with the other cats. She was looking straight at Vikk, and he couldn't help but growl angrily at her. Hearing it, Star looked away from him, with a look on her face that resembled guilt.

Minter let out another loud chirp before taking off of the desk and flying to sit atop one of Vikk's legs, some of the cat's licking their lips as they watched the bird fly over their heads.

"You will not eat him!" Vikk yelled at them. He was about to say more when he heard his door open, all of the heads in the room looking at the door as Josh stuck his head inside of the room.

"Vikk? Was that you screami-" Josh began, interrupting himself by yelping in surprise when he noticed the cats. Josh's mouth fell open, his eyes widening as he looked at Vikk with a stunned expression. Vikk opened his mouth to say something, before he heard some commotion from outside of his room.

Josh opened Vikk's door wider, some of the cats moving to get out of the way, and Josh walked completely inside, followed by JJ and Simon, who looked at the animals with a similar reaction to that of Josh's, the door clicking shut behind them.

"Holy shit!" JJ yelled, looking around Vikk's room with a look of confusion on his face. Josh hummed in response, and Simon said something as well.

"These are a lot of- YOU!" Simon yelled, pointed to the bird sitting on Vikk's leg. Minter chirped in surprise in response. "That's the freaking bird from outside my window!"

"Hey, don't pick on Minter!" Vikk yelled back, his eyes narrowing.

"Minter?!? You named the flipping bird?!?! After Simon of all people?!??" Josh asked, an eyebrow raised. Simon was fuming, but didn't say anything else. "Where did these all even come from?!?"

"I don't know! I only knew about her," Vikk pointed to Star, "but I just woke up to all of these cats! You think I invited them??!?"

"Maybe they're hungry?" JJ mumbled, surprised when everyone, cats included, turned to him, as if he didn't expect anyone to hear him. "Well, think about it! If Vikk fed the white cat, then maybe the other ones thought that they could catch a free meal too!"

A look of realization came onto Josh's face. "Is that why you had that food yesterday? You were feeding Minter and the cat?"

Vikk nodded, and Simon groaned angrily. "Look, it doesn't matter! We need to get these cats, and the bird out of here!"

"I agree!" Vikk added, "But I want the cat, Star, and Minter to stay! They didn't do anything!"

Simon moaned, Josh quickly saying, "Okay, fine, but the others have got to go!"

All four of them nodded, Vikk getting out of his bed as Minter flew off of his leg and onto Simon's head (who only sighed angrily), before they were interrupted by a series of loud tweets and chirps from outside of Vikk's window.

Though Vikk couldn't see out of the window from where he was standing, the others could, and Vikk didn't like the shocked looks (and big smile in JJ's case) on their faces.

Vikk quickly moved in front of the window, his eyes widening at the sight in front of him.

On the tree branch where Vikk had found Minter the day before, there were now dozens of birds, all looking at Vikk with cocked heads.

There were all kinds of birds, sparrows, brown birds, white birds, black birds, crows, hell, Vikk could of sworn he saw an albatross in the tree as well.

And there was only one thought in Vikk's head.

...shit.
