"it's just weird." franchie sighed to hayden. "i've been friends with moonee since kindergarten. she's my longest friend."
it was lunch, hayden and franchie were in the slightly empty school library. franchie was rambling about moonee's change and how it made her feel. hayden sat in a position where she was facing franchie and had all her attention on her.
"i'm so sorry."
"it's okay." franchie shook her head. "i just-i just don't recognise her anymore. it's weird."
"i can't imagine how you must be feeling." hayden frowned, squeezing her two hands.
"she's my best friend, you know?" franchie continued. "feels like there's a part of me missing." the girl then chuckled. "that sounds so cliché, but it's true."
"i'm sorry." hayden said again, she didn't really know how to comfort her.
"it's not your fault." franchie told her. "i'm sure if they made her like this, there's a way to reverse it - there must be."
"that's true." hayden nodded, "it'll be okay - think of the positives."
franchie sadly chucked, "okay, the only positive i can think of this whole chimera pack thing... is that i'm spending more time with you."
"ditto."
hayden slight smirked. the girl slowly placed her hand behind franchie's neck and gently pulled her head closer. franchie smiled and allowed hayden's lips to touch hers.
as they kissed, hayden's hand rested on the girl's bare knee. franchie noticed that hayden's lips and her hands were incredibly soft. the kiss was passionate and sweet. once they pulled back, the two rested their foreheads together.

the door of the operating theatre opened, and theo entered. in his hand was a jar of talons and he looked stunned by the sight in front of him.
first, he saw corey, curled up on the floor with his head between his knees. beside him was josh, who kneeled on the floor, cradling his injured arm and covered in blood.
tracy was standing in the doorway between the room and the operating theatre proper, where she was pressing her hands to a bleeding wound on her stomach.
an uninjured dark moonee was leaning on the wall and beside her was proof that the chimera pack's mission was a success. the demon wolf, deucalion, was hooked up to a wolfsbane iv drip.
"and your brother has no problem with you going against him?" deucalion questioned the girl.
"it's not up to him, is it?" dark moonee shot back. "i make my own choices."
theo rolled his eyes in amusement at the scene in front of him as he set the jar on the table. "is that so?"
dark moonee glanced up at him. "just because you think you're my 'alpha', doesn't mean you can control what i do."
"yeah?" theo challenged.
"yeah. you've been getting too big for your boots lately." dark moonee shrugged.
theo didn't even want to reply to her. so, he glanced around the room. "all this to take down one blind werewolf..."
"crazy, huh?" dark moonee joked.
"recently re-blinded." deucalion stated. "unfortunately, the healing of my eyes by a dark druid-"
"jennifer blake." dark moonee informed them.
"thank you. it proved only temporary." deucalion finished. "a parting gift from my time with scott mccall."
dark moonee frowned with a nonchalant shrug, "gets like that."
theo gave her an annoyed look as of to say: 'do you ever shut up?'
deucalion turned his head toward theo and gave him a look through his cloudy red eyes. "friend of yours?
"we're working through some issues." theo replied, snakily.
"he knows why he's here." tracy told theo. "he knows about the beast."
"i'm guessing someone told him." theo glanced over at dark moonee.
"as a matter of fact, i didn't." she shrugged. "the beast is no secret. at least 40 percent of people know about it."
"hmmm, she's right. the beast of gévaudan- history's most vicious, most famous werewolf." deucalion described. "and you think i'm going to show you how to steal its power?"
"i think you're open to negotiation." theo knelt down and said. "all you have to do is tell me what you want."
dark moonee cleared her throat. "hold on. if you were going to negotiate with him... what was the point of fighting? these three took some harsh hits."
"a little training." theo shrugged. "since some of you were unable to take down scott mccall." he then glared at the injured three.
"i want his eyes... on the tips of my claws." deucalion raised his free hand and flicked out his claws as he scowled angrily. "i want the eyes of scott mccall."
despite knowing how stupid his demand was, dark moonee began to laugh maniacally and clap her hands in excitement. "finally, some fun." she grinned.
theo smirked in satisfaction, happy to know that he has another ally with similar goals to his own.

the next day, scott and stiles had just met back up with each other in the school library, where they were discussing their encounter with the beast the night before.
"okay, my dad's got the lab working on the shoe prints, but, uh, we're all kind of mystified about how giant clawed werewolf feet turned back into a pair of sneakers." stiles explained.
"argent said it wouldn't be like anything we've ever seen before." scott justified.
"did he say it was going to defy the laws of physics?" stiles questioned, sarcastically.
just then, both boys stopped dead in their tracks when they saw theo reading a book in between two bookshelves. they shared an incredulous look before they confronting him.
"what are you doing here?" scott asked coldly.
"i still need to graduate." theo stated.
"no." stiles shook his head, "no, what you need is to be beaten. severely. with a lead pipe wrapped in barbed wire-"
dark moonee walked out from another aisle, three books in her arms. she winced at stiles' aggressiveness and spoke up: "woah, you kiss your girlfriend with that mouth?" she teased before pausing, "oh wait..."
stiles scoffed, clearly hating her new self. "what, are you his mouthpiece? assistant?" he shot back.
dark moonee laughed out, "in my opinion, he's the assistant."
"we both know that's not the case." theo sneered. they had had this same conversation multiple times since moonee has been recruited.
"whatever helps you sleep at night." she hummed.
theo rolled his eyes and turned back to the two boys. "okay, i admit, mistakes were made."
"murders. some murders were made!" stiles reminded him.
theo rolled his eyes. "you know how the soviets helped us win world war 2? they knew how to make it through a russian winter."
"and in germany during world war 1, their food shortages were so bad that they had to eat turnips. it was called the 'turnip winter'." dark moonee decided to add.
"what?" theo sighed at her.
"what? you were giving out random facts so i just thought that i could too." dark moonee stated.
"that it?" stiles sighed. "okay. thank you, guys. very informative."
"if you're planning to break lydia out of eichen house, you still need to get past the mountain ash." he glanced at moonee, "we can make it through. you can't, scott."
scott narrowed his eyes at theo suspiciously, "what do you really want?"
"i know you saw the fresco. two seriously pissed off creatures, the hellhound and the beast, fighting over a pile of dead bodies?" theo informed them, "i don't want to be one of the bodies. it's that simple."
scott and stiles continued to stare at theo silently, they felt as if there was more than what he was telling them.
"i can get you to lydia. or, we can see who gets to her first." theo closed the book in his hands, put it back on the shelf and walked away."
"may the best pack win." dark moonee smiled. "or whatever your little group is now."
as she followed theo, scott watched her go with a frown. ever since he knew she was alive, they had been trying to figure out what the dread doctors changed about her, hoping they could reverse it. but they had no luck.
