Hostility

A hostile state, condition, or attitude; enmity; antagonism; unfriendliness

"But now it's like talking to my worst enemy, not someone who I still call my best friend."

They don't know what happened to her. It's almost as if she became someone completely different overnight. However, it wasn't overnight; they just don't pay attention. She's been like this for weeks, but it's as if she has finally reached her limits, the peak of the mountain, and now she's falling down and doesn't know how to catch herself, and there is certainly no one there waiting to catch her once she hits rock bottom if she isn't already there.

She's now realized that the only person that's been there for her through everything is herself. Her best friend who is concerned for her well being likes to pretend that they've been there for her, but they haven't. It's the complete opposite of that. Her best friend doesn't see that she is struggling, so who is she to even still call them her best friend anymore? That behavior is not of best friend material, it's not even acquaintance material.

She doesn't like to play the blame game, she thinks it's senseless. Why should one feel the need to blame someone for a problem that is entirely their fault? Is it because they're too much of a coward to admit that they made a mistake? Can they not realize that taking responsibility for something they did is the more mature thing to do? Just because she doesn't like to play the blame game, doesn't mean she never plays it. Usually she puts all of the blame on herself.

I'm the reason why nobody likes me. Maybe if I wasn't so gullible and stubborn, people would actually want to be around me.

But it wasn't that easy. That made her feel hopeless, it made her angry. Why couldn't life just be simple? It's as if not having people be there for her is what makes her put her walls up and put on such an enraged and aggressive front. It makes them stay away, because why should she let people in if they're just going to lose interest and ultimately not care about her? Although she is still blaming herself for why she has become the way she is, she also blames him.

He ruined me. He completely broke me and doesn't even care enough to pick up the pieces.

He definitely played a part in making her the aggressively irritable person she currently is. He doesn't even realize that. He's still going out to parties, chatting up random girls, and living life with a brutally scintillating smile that hurts her more than he could ever know. The thing is, he hasn't talked to her in weeks. When all of a sudden she's brought up in a gossip session with his friends, he simply answers, 'wait, who?'  yet he knows perfectly well who she is. He can still see her when he closes his eyes. The problem with that is that he sees the girl that he met so long ago, the girl he used to have conversations with, the girl he used to call beautiful, the girl he used to spend all of his time with. That's not who she is anymore, and he has failed to realize that. He has failed to realize that she is now a cantankerous girl who is falling apart at a mercilessly languid pace.

He listens to what his friends have to say about her. Their vehement words make him cringe when they talk about how much of a bitch she has become. He's surprised that they just used the word bitch to describe someone he sees as the complete opposite of that relentless term. He doesn't defend her, but he does do something else. He feels obligated to check up on her and sees how she's doing. That's what any concerned friend would do in that situation. So he texts her words that are all too familiar coming from him.

"Hey, how have you been?"

He's not quite sure what he was expecting as a response. Maybe something bubbly and friendly like 'Hey! I've been great, what about you?' or maybe something harsh that he would personally say like 'I'm sorry who is this?'  when he couldn't be bothered to talk to someone, but her response was nothing like that. Her response definitely made him realize that he was not in fact talking to the girl from just a few weeks ago. He never expected such a hostile response to come from her, yet what was displayed on the screen of his phone was exactly that. It was hostile.

"Fuck you."

His arbitrary text only resurfaced feelings she tried to lock away so long ago. But for all she knew, he didn't text her at all. She could just be hallucinating.
