Chapter 6

McKinley's P.O.V

Boys. Ugh. They just make everything a competition. If you want a burger, BAM! Competition. Want to redecorate your room? BAM! Competition. Driving home? BAM! Competition! How do I know this?
1. I play soccer. On a team full of boys (well, not ENTIRELY truthful, but STILL)
2. I have a dad
3. I have been to a BBQ with boys
Trust me, this is vital information. And we will be discussing the last number (3) right now.

See, in Mississippi, you have a BBQ to welcome the new neighbors. I think it's just an excuse for underage drinking. You see, all the parents leave early. Then it's romantic, watching the sun go down and the lightning bugs come out. But then it becomes a crazy party. Again, I know this from experience.

Me being the new person I was, I was invited to a barbecue. It was hosted by the Lincoln family, and their son, Jacob, was a player. He flirted with girls 24/7. It's quite disgusting really.

Anyway, since I had to look presentable, I put on my white jean shorts, black converse, and my 'faded' red Coca-Cola shirt. No, I don't like soda. Yes, it's okay not to like soda. Break the stereotypes! I walked over to the party. My parents were both too busy to come, but they made cookies to make up for it. I walked to the side of the house near the gate. The invitation said to come through the gate, so that's what I was about to do. But what happened next changed my arm forever...
Nope! Just kidding! I calmly breathed in and walked through the gate. As I walked in, no one looked at me.
Phew! I mean, I love people, but I DO NOT want to be noticed at this very second.

I put the cookies on the dessert table and saw some boys playing soccer. I debated on going over there, considering the fact that the whole soccer team may hate me. Due to my dilemma, I sat down on the grass, drinking some lemonade, and watched a match. Obviously, side B won. Side B was full of boys who looked like they could play soccer, and definitely has the abs-I mean skill-to show it. Side A was a little less...soccer jock filled?

I don't really know, they just weren't good enough to win against that team. But with a good team captain (like myself) and a great (not just good) player, like thyself, they can and will win. So I hopped up, pulled my hair into a high ponytail, and walked into the field.

"Um, who does she think she is?" I heard one girl " whisper" to her friend.
"Is she Charlie's new side girl?" Eww! Me, a side chick? Gross.
"Who is she?" and "What is she doing?" we're frequently asked questions as I walked over to the two teams.
"Hello, I'm McKinley Dallas. That's who I think I am at least," I sent a glare at the girl who was whispering earlier.
"I'm definitely not Charlie's side girl, whoever he is. He sounds quite disgusting if he has side chicks. That would be gross. I'm a senior at the Academy for Art and Music, and I'm going to play soccer with the boys. So just go back to your perfect little lives!" I exclaimed, rubbing my left arm nervously. I hated attention. Well, some of the time, but unless I was singing or playing soccer, I don't really like attention. Everyone eyes me, then went back to whatever they were doing. I mentally let out a breath and relaxed.

"So, you want to play soccer. With us?" The boy I assume is Charlie.
" Yup. "
" M'kay sunshine. You can be on team A. Be prepared to get your a-"
"Nope! No swearing!" I shook my finger in his face. " So, could we start now? "
"Sure, sunshine," Charlie winked at me. I smugly smiled back. He would soon know what defeat felt like...

And boy did he! My team won the game, 17-13. It was a good win. Charlie and his team of kicks starred at me in either shock, frustration, or lust. To the last one: Disgusting. I fixed my RayBans and smoothed my shirt down.
"Well boys, I'll catch you on the flip si-" And then I saw it. The heavenly sight that makes mouths water and jealousy fill the air.
"FRIED CHICKEN!!!!" I screamed as I literally hopped over and dodged people to get a drumstick.
"Mmmmm!" I moaned at the goodness of the chicken.
"Get a room!" Someone shouted.
"Get a life!" I replied back. I then plopped myself on the ground, enjoying the taste of my fried chicken. It was just me, in the corner, and fried chicken. Nothing could disturb this moment.

"So, you won the game I take it?" I could feel the smirk burning through the back of my head. I dropped my fried chicken on the ground and spun around to face it. Nothing could ruin it but him.
