Chapter 21 - Miss Beatrice Part 1

(A/N, This thing up top is more to help me when writing this.)
Third Person POV

Race walks with Albert and JoJo to JoJo's selling spot; Central Park.

Some other Newsies sell in Central Park from time to time, but JoJo always sold there.

It was known as his selling spot.

"Have I mentioned that I don't like switching spots?" Race questions, annoyedly licking pebbles.

Albert shoots him a glare. "No. I don't think you have." He responds sarcastically. "Want to mention it again?" He questions.

Race puts his hands up in a surrendering motion.

JoJo turns to Race, putting his hand on Race's shoulder. "I understand that this is hard for you, and it's a lot to take in, but let's try to be a little positive." He tells him softly.

Race nods. "Okay, okay, sorry." He mutters.

Race switched selling partners everyday.

If he had to admit it, the order of his favorite selling partners went like this;

1) Albert and JoJo.
- They were his best friends.
- Made him laugh a lot.
- Sometimes goofed off while selling.
- Albert and Race made sarcastic remarks.
- JoJo just rolled his eyes, and or ignored them.

2) Spot, and usually Hotshot.
- The Brooklyn boys were fun to be with since it was cool to see how they did stuff.
- He hated walking to Brooklyn every other day, and staying there, then walking back.
- He was dating Spot.
- Hotshot teased him a lot for that.

3) Davey, Les, Crutchie, and Jack.
- Race loved spending time with Jack and Crutchie since they're his brothers.
- Les is adorable and funny.
- Davey can be funny, but he's overprotective.
- Crutchie has a smile that spreads like butter.
- He teases Jack and Davey about their crushes.
- Pretends to be Les' brother, and people, somehow, believe them.

4) Blink and Mush.
- Race sometimes felt like a third wheel with them.
- But they were fun to be around.
- Plus, he liked seeing them being cute together and teasing them.
- Laughed a lot together.

5) Tommy boy, Finch, and Henry.
- He didn't feel like a third wheel with them, since Finch wasn't dating, only Tommy boy and Henry were.
- Race liked teasing them, and Finch would tease them with him at times.
- They were fun too.

6) Lucky, Romeo, and Specs.
- At times it would only be Specs and Romeo, since Lucky liked selling with Les, but it was usually all three of them since Lucky liked Specs.
- Race liked teasing Specs and Romeo about them dating.
- Specs was overprotective, but Romeo helped him ease his nerves a bit.
- Funny
- Romeo only likes flirting with Specs, so it's funny when he friend-zones a girl who flirts with him

7) Ace and Smokes.
- They were cute together, but he didn't tease them.
- Smokes was fun to hang with.
- Ace is overprotective and worried that if something happens to Race, Spot will kill him.
- Ace doesn't want Smokes to get hurt.
- Long Brooklyn walks.
- Brooklyn does things very different from Manhattan.

It was Sunday, so he was back to selling with JoJo and Albert.

"I like selling, I really really do. I like selling, but the headlines sell like poo." Race jokingly sings, waving a paper over his head.

He did this a lot.

Albert and JoJo laugh.

A few people by papers from Race, shocking him.

Albert laughs at this. "Dang Race, maybe you should sing stuff more when selling." He jokes.

Race counts his money, laughing a bit. "Maybe." He responds.

A woman with two kids hands him a penny, while each kid (there was a girl and a boy) hands him a penny too.

"You really should. You're pretty good." She tells him kindly.

Race laughs a bit, tipping his hat. "Thanks Miss, but that was solely a joke." He tells her with a soft smile.

The woman smiles. "I got the joke." She and Race laugh. "But it doesn't change the fact that you're a good singer."

Race smiles again. "Well, thank you." He responds.

The woman stares at him for a minute. "You're the Newsie who was singing about being the 'King of New York' in Jacobi's Deli when you all got in the papers, weren't you?" She asks. "I'd recognize your voice from anywhere."

Race smiles, nostalgically staring at the sky as memories came flooding back. "That was me." He responds.

The woman smiles happily, handing him a dime.

Race looks at it, and begins to hand it back. "Oh- Miss, I- I couldn't take your- your money." He stammers a bit. "That's- that's just too much."

The woman closes Race's hand with the dime in it, pushing his hand back to him. "Take it. You kids need it more than I do. Consider it a tip for your good singing and kindness." She tells him.

Race smiles, putting the dime in his pape bag. "Well, thank you again, Miss. I hope you have a lovely day, and I hope to see you around." He responds.

The woman smiles. "Where do you normally sell?" She asks curiously. "I normally just see JoJo here."

At the mention of his name, JoJo turns around.

His face lights up when he sees the woman. "Miss Beatrice, it's wonderful to see you today!" He exclaims.

Miss Beatrice smiles. "Good morning, JoJo. I was just talking to your friend here." She gestures to Race.

"Hi, JoJo who I saw two minutes ago." Race jokes with a laugh.

JoJo laughs a bit as well.

Miss Beatrice chuckles.

JoJo smiles as he turns back to Miss Beatrice. "This is Race. He sells with Albert and I every Sunday right now because of a slight problem that causes him to move selling partners." He explains.

Miss Beatrice nods. "I'm guessing 'Albert' is the redhead." JoJo nods. "Well, your friend is a lovely boy, and a very good singer." She comments.

JoJo and Race smile.

"That he is, Miss Beatrice." JoJo responds, nodding as he looks at Race. "That he is."

Race smiles at JoJo, playfully shoving him, to which JoJo playfully shoves him back.

Miss Beatrice laughs. "Well, I hope to see you around, Race." Said boy nods. "JoJo, I will see you tomorrow. Jackie will be with me this time, she's been itching to see you." She informs him.

JoJo nods. "Well, I'm looking forward to seeing her. Next Sunday, bring her again. Race loves little kids." He tells her.

Miss Beatrice nods, before walking off.

Race and JoJo watch her walk off.

"She's nice." Race states calmly, holding onto his pape bag with one hand.

JoJo nods. "She really is."

Race looks at his pape bag. "She gave me a dime." He informs JoJo.

JoJo grins at him. "She's the reason I usually come home with a dime." He laughs.

Race laughs, jokingly shoving JoJo. "Man, I wish people were that nice at my selling spot." He mutters.

JoJo nods, he understood that. "Jackie is her daughter. She loves me. So do her other two kids. Skylar and Benjamin. They're twins, Sky and Ben." He explains.

Race nods. "I'll have to meet them soon." He responds.

"Maybe even sing for them." JoJo teases, playfully shoving Race.

Race shoves him back. "You know you love my singing." He responds with a grin.

"Ooh, we're playfully shoving each other!" Albert exclaims, running and grabbing Race and JoJo in a hug.

The three boys fall to the ground, laughing a lot together.

A man looks at them in disgust, snapping his fingers at them. "Can I get a paper?!" He asks.

Race and Albert roll their eyes in unison. He's rude. Do you mind being a little nice?

JoJo gets up, plastering a fake smile on his face, and hands him a paper.

Before the man leaves, JoJo speaks up. "I would change your attitude, or else you might be the one in the pape next. I can already see the headline," JoJo puts his hands up. "'Worse Attitude Contest. Man wins first place'." He announces.

Albert and Race burst out laughing.

JoJo smirks, as the man angrily stomps off.

Albert and JoJo high-five.

"Nice Jo." Albert nods in approval.

Race tries to catch his breath, still laughing a lot. "We are a horrible influence on you." He breathes out.

JoJo shrugs. "Eh, he deserved that." He states.

Race shrugs. "I'm not gonna disagree with that." He responds.

The three boys laugh again.
