Anxiety is No Fun (HSMTS)

Hey all, this was a request for a show I've never seen... If characters are OOC, my apologies. Requested by red5050o1. Enjoy!
------------------------------------------------------------------
It was dress rehearsal day, their very last chance to go through Beauty and the Beast in full costumes and make any final adjustments.

Ricky was all dressed up like the Beast, mask and all, and he was mentally running through his lines while sitting backstage when Gina walked up to him in her Babette attire.

"Hey, Ricky, are you ready to do this?" she asked him, not missing that he almost jumped out of his skin when she spoke to him. "Sorry, I didn't mean to startle you." she added gently.

Ricky looked up at her. "It's fine, yeah I think so." he said, sounding a bit too hyper especially for him. "You ready?" he asked, tugging at his shirt collar as if it was too restrictive.

She raised her eyebrows in concern, but didn't voice her opinion on his behavior. "Yep, so are Nini and Big Red." she said, knowing he would be worried about all of them.

He smiled, though it never reached his eyes. "Good," he said, zoning out a bit as he tugged at his collar again.

"Are you okay? Do we need to loosen the neckline on your costume?" she asked him, watching him keep tugging at it without realizing he was even doing that at all.

He dropped his hand to his side and blinked at her in confusion. "No, it's fine," he said with a shrug, not realizing his hand had drifted back up to his collar again.

She frowned, choosing not to mention that he was doing it again, chalking it up to anxiety about the show later that night. “I’m going to go make sure everyone else is ready,” she said, walking away in a sound similar to ruffled clothes lying in her wake.

Ricky sat in silence, staring into the auditorium, trying to imagine it full, in an effort to prepare himself and served to not notice that something was off mentally. As he sat there, he was completely unaware that Gina had gone to get Nini and Big Red, bringing them back to check on him.

“Dude, you okay?” Big Red asked, startling the teen in front of them. “Sorry, didn’t mean to startle you,” he said in a rush when he saw the teen looked a bit freaked.

Ricky smiled when he saw it was just his friends, visibly relaxing but his hand stayed at his collar. "Yeah, I'm great. How are you? Ready to do this?" he asked, appearing to notice the frown on all their faces.

"Yep, we are all ready. Why are you messing with the collar of your costume?" Nini asked before Big Red was barely able to get his mouth open.

Ricky shot an annoyed facial expression at Gina, for drawing attention to him. "As I told Gina, I'm good. If we are all ready, let's get started." he quipped, hardly keeping the edge out of his voice. He walked away, before anyone could say or do a thing about what he said.

Gina looked at Nini and Big Red in concern, "Think it's just nerves?" she asked, earning a nod from both. "I'm not convinced. I've seen him nervous, this doesn't look like nerves, it looks like something more serious is going on." She persisted.

"Well he isn't going to ask for help with it, so what should we do?" Big Red asked, looking in the direction of their retreating friend.

Ricky walked at a steady almost speedy pace, not stopping until he got to the bathroom a ways down the hall from the auditorium. He slipped into the bathroom, leaning against the door once it was closed. His mind was reeling, his heart was pounding crazy fast, and sweat was pouring from every pore that it could seep from.

He was legitimately panicking, and had no idea what to do to calm down. He knew he could be honest with his friends, but he never needed help before, so why should he need it now?

He took a few more deep breaths, before straightening up and moving to the sink, grabbing a paper towel, to wipe the sweat off his face and neck. If he was being honest, the neckline was too restrictive, but he had a feeling it was because he was nervous.

Once he looked marginally better, he shoved his hands into his pants pockets and sauntered back out to the auditorium, hoping that if he faked being okay for long enough, he actually would be.

He walked back into the room, heading backstage as the drama teacher stepped to the center of the stage.

"Let's get this rehearsal started." the drama teacher said. "This is the last time we have for all nerves and mistakes." they said, with a big smile. They walked off the stage and took a seat where the audience will be sitting in a few short hours. They nodded to the students so they would begin.

Everyone took their places, and the first couple of scenes went off without a hitch. Until they got to a really detrimental scene for Ricky, whose anxiety had been getting more and more intense.

"I'm sorry," he said, halfway through his lines, before taking off and bolting from the stage.

"Ricky?" the teacher called out to him, as he ran until he hit the bathroom door.

"We got him," Big Red said, following Ricky with Gina and Nini close behind him. When they got to the bathroom door, he knocked not wanting to walk in on something inappropriate.

"Go away," a strained voice said from somewhere deep inside the bathroom.

"It's just me, Gina, and Nini; we are coming in." Big Red warned, pushing the door open to see the red-faced, tear streaked face of his best friend. "Dude, what happened?" he asked before the girls could even attempt to speak.

"I don't know," Ricky admitted in a soft voice, his voice sounding strained as he pulled at his collar in more aggravation than annoyance.

"Do you want me to take your collar off?" Nini asked softly, approaching him when he nodded. She worked quickly, removing the collar, but not missing how sweaty he was. "Let's take your costume off, it'll help you cool down." she offered, earning a brief nod from Ricky.

She could tell something else was wrong, so she worked quickly. Once she stripped him of the upper half of his costume, he stiffened.

All three watched in shock, as Ricky surged forward, dropping to his knees in front of the toilet.

"Oh Ricky, are you sick, honey?" Nini asked, worry evident on her face.

Ricky shook his head, cringing as his body wouldn't calm down, leading him to projectile vomit into the toilet in front of him. Not once, not twice, but three times.

Gina made a disgusted face, and moved to stand watch at the door, not wanting to be too close to the puking teen.

"If you are not sick, why are you upchucking?" Big Red asked with a frown, as soon as Ricky stopped momentarily.

"Anxious," Ricky admitted hoarsely. He rested his arms on the toilet seat, before resting his head on his hands.

"Still queasy?" Nini asked, watching in concern, as the teen in front of her retched painfully.

All Ricky could do was nod miserably, as his frame was wracked with chills and harsh gags.

"How can you be cold, you're sweating bullets?" Gina asked in confusion and disgust.

Big Red thought quickly, to avoid any added stress being put on Ricky. "Hey Gina, can you go tell the teacher what's going on, while Nini and I try to get him set before tonight?" he requested, locking eyes with Nini.

Gina sighed, walking out the door, her heels echoing on the hallway's linoleum floor.

Big Red collected Ricky's costume, making minor unnoticeable adjustments so he wouldn't overheat anymore. "There, now you shouldn't get too warm," he said, proudly surveying his work, with a critical eye.

Nini smiled at Big Red gratefully, as she turned her attention back to Ricky, who was breathing too fast indicating that he was moments away from trying to throw up again.

"Oh you're okay, Ricky. Slow breaths, in your nose to the count of 4, hold for 2 seconds, then out your mouth." she encouraged, rubbing her hand up and down his back along his spine.

Ricky whimpered, throwing up once, twice, and the last time it was purely stomach acid, which burned all the way up his throat. He was left panting in exhaustion.

"Teach says, just help him relax, but we need to know if he can still play his part?" Gina asked, walking back in concern.

"No..." Big Red and Nini said simultaneously, before looking at each other with a smirk.

"Yes, I can," Ricky said, pushing himself to his feet, before moving to the sink to wash his mouth out and washed his face.

"Are you sure? You were really sick just a moment ago," Nini said with a worried look.

Ricky blotted at his face with some paper towels. "Yes, I'm fine. Just nervous, but I'm good now." He said firmly, a grateful smile on his lips. "Wanna help me suit back up?" He asked his friends with a smile.

His friends nodded, each one stepping up to help him set up to return to rehearsal and eventually the play itself.

"Just tell one us if you feel sick again, promise?" Nini requested, as she helped.

"Yep," Ricky said with a smile.

Once he was all set, they rejoined the rest of the cast and had a wonderful rehearsal and the play went off without a single problem.

I hope you enjoyed this one shot. As always: vote, comment, and request away. Love you all! <3
