39: when it comes to a choice
I dropped my plate at my feet, the shatter made her jump.
"I am sick and tired of your -- your shit!"
"Maybe if you were a bit more respect--"
"No!" I shouted, "I have been nothing but the kindest to you all day and you repay me with saying... I could never be Lori?"
"Well you couldn't." She rolled her eyes.
"Get out my house." I smiled.
Rick ran into the kitchen and stared frantically.
"Excuse me?"
"Get out of my house! You have done nothing but overused your welcome."
" 'Chonne what the hell," Rickk stepped in "what is going on?"
"Why don't you let her tell you?" I jarred.
His father trolled into the kitchen, along with Andre and Carl beside him.
"Ma?"
"She's angry because I'm teaching her how to be a good housewife."
"No no no No no." I chuckled "she has taunted me, and pestered, and bickered all day long. And you know what, maybe I don't want to be a house wife!"
"You won't even be a wife the way you're headed."
"Cut it out!" Rick shouted.
"No! Let her tell you the way she told me I could never be Lori." I snapped, tears running down my face.
It hurt, hearing her say I'd never be a wife.
It's all I've ever dreamt of since the day I met mike.
"Mom you said that?" Ricks voice cracked.
"I think it's time we go, Christy." His father grabbed her arm.
"Yes, I said it. I'll say it again and three more times."
Carl glanced at me and ran back up the stairs, Andre stood dumbfounded.
"And I'll say this and three more times...Get. out. my. house."
"Your house? I do believe it's in my son's name and he can tell me to go if he wants me to."
I turned to Rick and whispered to him.
"Tell her."
"She's my mother."
"And I'm the mother of YOUR child."
He sighed deeply and glanced back at his mom, her arms folded and her lips pursed.
Rick grabbed my arm and pulled me into the pantry room, there, he ran his fingers through his hair and glanced away from me.
"Look, I can't believe she said that. And I can't say it's not hurting me, let along you but you can't make me do this."
"Choose. She stays, I go." I grunted.
"Michonne I'm not choosing between you and my mother dammit."
"Okay," I smiled, trying my hardest to act like it didn't hurt, "I'll go. I can't do it anymore."
I turned to walk away but he yanked me back, "get your damn hands off me." I jarred.
"Do not walk out this house." He said, as stern as ever. The way he talks to Carl when he's angry.
I yanked away from him and stormed out the pantry and up the stairs, Andre followed, still confused as to what was happening.
Once I reached our room, I pulled Andre in, slammed the door and locked it.
After that, I started clearing my dressers, throwing all my clothes onto the bed.
"Mommy please stop crying." Andre sniffles, his hands to his chest in a ball.
I looked at him and smiled "come here,"
He waddled up to me shyly.
"I love you okay?" I kissed his head and he wrapped his arms around me.
When I stopped sniffling and crying, I could hear more yelling going on downstairs.
"But you're not gonna treat her like that!" Carl shouted "do not compare her to someone who is dead gramma what has happened to you!"
They all barked at each other, Carl took up for me but not once did I hear rick say anything regarding my feelings.
After a while, Ricks father shouted that they were leaving-- and they did. It was quiet for once, but then again I was locked in a silent room.
Suddenly, there were 3 bangs at the door.
"Michonne, I'm sorry. open up."
"No." I shouted.
Another bang.
"Open the door, 'Chonne don't act like a child."
He began to push at the door with his hip, making it louder and louder.
"Mommy he's scaring me." Andre whispered.
"Rick get off the fucking do--"
He busted in, Andre ran out.
I grabbed my clothes and rushed past him, but he shoved me back.
"You put your hands on me one more time you'll regret it." I chuckled, through tears. "Now let me go!"
"You're not going anywhere. She's gone! Okay? She's gone! And you're gonna stay and we're gonna talk through this Michonne and we're gonna fix it. I won't let you leave."
"You let her talk to me like I was just some other girl!" I barked.
He took a deep breath and his jaw clenched, "I said I was sorry."
"Sorry ain't cutting it."
I gathered the clothes that fell on the ground and continued to shove past him.
